"TV Guide listing for 12/5 - SPOILERS"
I'll try to leave enough space so that someone who is randomly perusing the thread listings and doesn't want to know what happens in future episodes can safely avoid this thread.

OK, for the rest of you, this is the listing for December 5:

"Amazing Race
Race to the Finish, Part 1
60 min.
The final three teams compete in the penultimate leg of the race. Phil Keoghan is the host."

It looks like conventional wisdom is right. Any other comments?

Realitybites,

Penultimate episode means the episode before the final episode.
This could only mean that on the final episode, as many have already speculated, only two teams remain. My guess is that's Frank & Margarita, and Rob & Brennan.

2. "Disagree"
Sorry, Goober, but I don't agree. I think this is what happens:

E10: 4 teams, no boot at the pit stop.
E11: 4 teams, 1 gets booted at the pit stop (Hong Kong? Alaska? B.C.?).
E12: 3 teams, no pit stop.
E13: 3 teams, team that reaches pit stop first wins.

My evidence? The title, "Race to the Finish, Part 1." Thus, the final episode will be entitled "Race to the Finish, Part 2." I can't see any reason for a format change between "Part 1" and "Part 2", can you?

And ... the teams were told by Phil that there were only three no-boot pit stops. Two occurred in E6 and E8, and the third will be in E10. Thus, there can't be a pit stop at the end of E12.

The REAL race for victory will begin once E12 starts.

That looks like exactly what will happen. I think it would make for pretty bad television if there are only two teams in the finale and would be much more compelling if the race to the finish were over the course of two episodes. I wonder if they will tell us at the start of that episode that this is the race til the end.

Also, "final three teams" seems to indicate that the three teams will compete against each other til the end.

Ayak & PangongRatEater,

I have to concede on your reasonings here. However I still wonder how the no boot pit stop will work for that particular episode since do or die outcomes are the primary source of dramatic tension in this series. It would have to be a cliff-hanger episode where a hook is cast for the viewers not to change channels midway since an elimination does not occur.

So.......in epsidoe 12, where it's the 1st part of a 2 parter....how are they going to cut the episode off at the end? Just like stop it at a certain point when all teams pass somewhere....or is there like a mini resting point? Im confused

I think they'll just end the show while the teams are still in transit to the finish ... no pit stop. That means there's probably a lot going on in the final push that it takes two hours to get it all in.

I agree that the last 2 episodes is one long race leg with no pit stop.

I'm sure the producers will edit the first of the two-part episode so that at the end of the hour, everyone is left hanging in suspense as to what will happen. One or both of the teams will be at a point where they have to make a crucial decision, or is having problems making travel arrangements, and carry it over to the final week.

I hope I don't date myself too badly, but remember the old Batman and Robin series on TV in the 60's. Most episodes were two-parts, and at the end of the first part the Dynamic Duo were almost always in some precarious position with the villan. Then they got out of it at the beginning of the next weeks' episode. I expect the same thing here.

Blue, you beat me to posting! LOL I was thinking exactly the same thing, at the end of episode 12, they will have a Phil voiceover as they show clips of the teams in transit, exactly like Batman. "As the teams make their way from Newfoundland to the final pitstop in New York City, who will arrive first? Will it be the current leaders, lawyers and best friends Rob and Brennan? <clip of Lawyers on a bus> Or will it be the separated parents, Frank and Margarita? <clip of Frangarita dozing on a train> Or perhaps fraternity brothers Kevin and Drew can come from behind and win it all? <clip of Festers in a car> Tune in next week for the unforgettable exciting conclusion of The AMAZING RACE!"

So happy it's Wednesday!!!!

Yeah, you guys have got it, it'll be a cliffhanger, with each team facing a major decision or dilemma.

The only problem is Bat-man doesn't mean a thing to me...

The Dukes of Hazard, now we're talking. It'll be like every time the Dukes of Hazard go to commercial, with the Duke boys just about to get caught by Rosco, or the General Lee soring through the air... with Waylon Jennings doing the voice-over "stick around to find out if the Duke boys can get out of this mess" or a similar remark.

Look at the cbs site, the time line shows 13 episodes.

The dates must be

11/27---ep11
12/5----ep12
12/12---ep13

with ep12 being a week long cliffhanger to the end.
