"Alex Conspiracy Theory" |
LAST EDITED ON 04-25-03 AT 11:18 AM (EST)Although I loved watching Episode 10, and with the CO intel we knew that Alex was going to be eliminated, I was still shocked and mystified how it happened. I know that many (most) will probably disagree with the following, but I honestly believe this is the truth. Plus knowing the rest of the picks of the game and not having much more to discuss, I wanted to see if anyone agrees with my Conspiracy Theory. Maybe this is Basher material, maybe Fanatics, but I think it belongs here in Spoilers. Here goes... Alex was planted by Mark Burnett and Crew. Why would Mark and Crew do this (Motive): 1.) Mark has always wanted to make the show more interesting than what it ussually turns out to be. If the audience knows by episode 9 who will be the next four picks or so, he will lose part of his audience's interest. 2.) He tried to control the game through more direct routes previously (Survivor 1 - Stacy Stillman) but was slapped on the hand for this. His new way is to plant people on the show. Why would Alex do this (Motive): 1.) He gets all the exposure of being on Survivor. Previous losers on the show have been given acting jobs, jobs writing for local news media, and even TV news jobs. 2.) He will still get pretty good cash for being on the show even if he doesn't win. Why do I believe this is true (part of this we already know and have discussed before): a.) Alex's profession is listed by CBS as being a Project Manager or a Triathalon Coach. He helped train one friend for a Triathalon and hasn't Project Managed anything. In fact his source of income comes from working as a bouncer at a bar in LA called Belly. b.) Why would CBS incorrectly state his profession? Clerical mistake? No in fact Belly is the bar that Mike "Boogie" Malin on CBS' Big Brother 2 owns, Gabe Cade works at from Survivor 4, and Sean Rector frequents from Survivor 4. Also Alex is a personal friend of Lex from Survivor 3. What has CBS decided that they cannot find more interesting contestants around the US and have to continue recruiting from one bar? CBS clearly hid this fact because they didn't want to bring attention to this point. c.) Gabe Cade decided after a few episodes that he came for the experience, not for the money. Why would you not try to win a million dollars if you had the opportunity? d.) Sean continued to put his foot in his mouth and while he lasted longer, never had a chance to win the game. e.) Alex had an incredibly good chance to win. He was in a strong alliance, was the strongest physical threat out there, showed previously he knew how to strategize in the game, etc. But then he decides to tell Rob that when the get to the Final 4, he knows the girls will vote together, so he will vote against Rob. HE TELLS THIS TO ROB!!! So the only way he was allowing himself to win was if he won the last 2 Immunity Challenges, and possibly the one before that. So basically in my mind he decided that he didn't want to win. I think Alex's best chance to win was to stay in the alliance with Heidi, Jenna, and Rob. He should have formed a Final 2 pact with Rob. Alex knows that he has the best chance to win the final 4 IC, especially if it is a physical challenge. So if he wins Final 4 IC the worst thing that would happen is that there is a tie. Even with the Purple Rock scenario, his alliance has a 66% chance to win. Edited to add the following and complete my theory: So Mark plants Alex with the following deal. He will put Alex on the show with the deal that Alex will not win and he might have to change the flow of the game to make it more interesting at some point. So Alex discusses his "plan" with Rob who Mark, Jiffy Jeff and crew know strategizes as much as anyone ever. He know Rob won't accept a deal that all but elimates his chances at winning. And the game becomes alot more interesting to the average viewer. I truly believe this and would appreciate all your takes on this. Have I thought this through incorrectly?

LAST EDITED ON 04-25-03 AT 11:25 AM (EST)They did this with PornoBrian too Boilermaker. He was recruited by SEG for S5 because they wanted a "sleezy, CA used car salesman" to make the show more deceptive and interesting as ratings were beginning to wane. Brian never even had to go thru the standard audition process. I know this for a fact because when I interviewed for S7 there were a group of people who were segregated from the rest, who had NO VIDEO and were being "coached" on answers by what I thought were their agents. The rest of us weren't allowed near the segregated group. They were kept sequestered from the rest. The reason SEG recruited wasn't for lack of applicants but to target a specific viewing demographic. Maybe they were going after the adult entertainment demographic... 7. "RE: Alex Conspiracy Theory" |
If I were going to entertain any conspiracy theory, this might be it, Boilermaker. Other than what you pointed out, I (and several others on this board) thought it was very weird how there was NO information slipping through on Alex before or during the game. No sightings, no weight loss or lack thereof, nothing except that he might be dating Shawna, and a flurry of bogus spoilers suggesting that he was an early boot, he would be ganged up on by Rob/Jenna/Heidi, etc. And throughout the show he was edited much more under the radar than seemed normal for someone who was a core member of alliances, supposedly strategizing, etc. And then he goes and tells Rob he'll have to vote against him -- in ten more days or so. He didn't have to tell Rob UNTIL they all got to F4, even if he was thinking that. Biggest gufu of the whole game, imo. It's odd, I'll give you that.
