Surely more than just I and mine spent time at the theatres this weekend. What did you see, what did you love, what did you hate and what did you sleep thru?I really liked Bolt and Australia. I did not cry in Australia, ok - maybe one itsy, bitsy little tear that did not escape the lash, unlike my sister and sil. I fell in love with Brandon Walters, "I sing you to me" *sigh On the OK list - Transporter 3 - Jason Stratham keeps it in the ok category and we had to throw the guys a bone. Hated - Four Christmases - I really thought Reese Witherspoon would keep it above Hated, but alas Vince Vaugh can even drag sweet, cute Reese into the depths of Hell with him. I laughed out loud at Four Christmases several times. I will admit my expectations were very low and every movie is MUCH better when it's free. This holiday season sucks for movie choices.

I'm not in the biz, I'm just a Twihard. It gets better once you accept that it is not the book. Just like some of the Harry Potter movies. You have to realize that they can't fit everything from the books into a 2 hr movie. Making Twilight into a movie was harder still since more than half (I'm guestimating here) of the book is spent in Bella's thoughts. It really does get better on a second viewing.

I took our two older kids (8 and 6 yr olds) to see Bolt and Madagascar II over the holiday weekend.I thought Bolt was a little schmaltzy. But it was good for the kids. We all laughed a lot. I thought Mad II was as good as the first one. As per usual with this series, there were times when the humor was a little too suggestive for a kids movie. But I knew to expect that. we didn't go. i tried to explain to DH that going to a movie on thanksgiving is my family's tradition. he didn't seem to care.i even suggested we go at like 10 AM b/c we have 2 very young ones. he wanted no part of it. so we watched the 'parade' and pretended to be all excited when santa came. i think it got alex into the idea of santa a bit more. (i feel like i'm lying to her, tho and i can't stand it, but i guess that's for another thread) i love your review of 4 xmases tho. i LOVE vince vaughn. think he's friggin hilarious. have you seen made? seriously funny shizznat in there. and your belief that reese witherspoon would somehow redeem ANYthing (have you SEEN legally blonde?) makes me severely doubt your movie tastes. cq

I went and saw Bond (go figure...). I really enjoyed it, Craig is winning me over - but there needs to be a replacement at the top (M).At home I/we watched: “Vertigo” - I actually decided that I don't like this movie. “The African Queen” – here again, I think this movie is just “OK”. “Capricorn One” – OJ dies. “The Upside of Anger” – it’s not a great one, but DW and I were going through some photos and had it on. We have seen it before – and I don’t know why, but I think that Costner and Allen are good in their roles, and the daughters do a great job, AND a guys head blows up! I also watched one of the best of the best – "West Side Story". Thank goodness for Turner Classic Movies!

LAST EDITED ON 12-02-08 AT 11:48 AM (EST)LAST EDITED ON 12-02-08 AT 11:46 AM (EST) Gawd, is this what passes for a holiday movie season? Vince Vaughn and the Not-Even-Close-to-Sexiest-Man-Alive? Seriously? Pitiful. I saw the new Bond a couple weeks ago. I'm still not on board with the new guy (but then I haven't been on board with any of them since Connery), but it wasn't nearly as horrendous as any of them starring Moore. Casino Royale was superior to this one (using a very low bar), but this wasn't the worst way to waste an evening and $16. I think the only film this Oscar season that I'm chomping on the bit to see is Frost/Nixon. Edited to add two clips from the actual interview, h/t Ezra Klein: Quite disturbing, this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHv8SYkiwVo&eurl=http://www.prospect.org/csnc/blogs/ezraklein&feature=player_embedded Almost poignant, this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmCkjC-tdao&eurl=http://www.prospect.org/csnc/blogs/ezraklein&feature=player_embedded I don't think we've ever had or ever will have a more fascinating, flawed individual in the Oval Office. At least, let's hope we don't. Even as a criminal, W doesn't hold a candle to Tricky Dick. Granted, W's were more horrific, massive, murderous, and destructive to the Constitution. But, ol' Tricky really is a figure to rival King Lear. Shakespeare would have eaten him up. "I distrust those people who know so well what God wants them to do, because I notice it always coincides with their own desires." - Susan B. Anthony
Edited a second time to fix html and make a little sense.
