Lasann 3616 desperate attention whore postings DAW Level: "Thong Contest Judge" 07-29-08, 09:00 PM (EST) "It's New England Time" I was afraid to post my travel plans due to the fact that I often plan but more often can't follow through. But, my health willing, Dbf and I are leaving Columbus on August 7 planning to arrive in New Hampshire the next day. The route goes by Buffalo, NY and thru upper New York. Then one day in New Hampshire, two days in Maine, two days in the Boston area. After there it's up in the air, maybe a day in Conneticut. Any peeps in these areas interested in a meet? Any peeps with "must see" places in New England? I've read a travel guide on Vermont. I've got one on Boston to skim and a New England one. I like the shore, lighthouses, and historical places. My Dbf likes ships and we will see "Old Ironsides" in Boston. This trip will just about complete my US map. With the exception of N. Dakota, Oregon, Utah and Alaska I've at least driven through or stayed in all the other states. Heaven on Earth! That’s me lying on the beach *giggle*   Top

I guess from your plans you will be just driving through Buffalo and Niagara Falls? When you get to the eastern side of NY you should stop in Adirondack State Park. Up there is Saranac Lake Brewery, Lake Placid or further south, Lake George. If you go along Lake Ontario you could stop at Alexandria Bay and 1000 Islands area. Lake Placid is beautiful. The air is so refreshing and the scenery is gorgeous. The town is charming as well. You could also go to Whiteface mountain and take a gondola ride up to the top. Cute inns, shops and everything. We normally would be up in Lake George this time of year but we are skipping due to other vacation plans. Lake George has lake cruises and a stunning hotel the Sagamore in Bolton Landing. Have fun! Even for non-fans, the Baseball Hall of Fame Museum is worth a stop. Despite not being much of a baseball fan and having to do most of the toddler-chasing, DW still thought it was a great place to visit. As baseball fans, DS and I loved it. One thing my Boston relatives did many years ago was book a whale-watching expidition out of Salem. It turned out to be one of the most amazing things I have ever experienced. "RE: It's New England Time" If you decide to visit Connecticut and since you like the shore, lighthouses and boats, you should definately visit Mystic and especially Mystic Seaport (it's a colonial era living museum/seaport). And Mystic Aquarium is one of the best aquariums I've ever been to. Stonington, CT is a charming seaside village and they have a lighthouse museum. Just over the border into Rhode Island, Watch Hill (part of Westerly) is a beautiful place to wander around. The beaches in Westerly are much better than Connecticut because they are on the Atlantic Ocean and not Long Island Sound. The other major place to visit in that area is the Pequot Museum at Foxwoods Casino (Ledyard, CT). Since you are doing so much driving, I would visit the coast of Southern Maine. York-Ogunquit-Kennebunkport is a great area with a gorgeous coastline. Have a great time!   Top
