"RE: Colleen's legs" Yeah, it was gross, and I've never been as hot to trot as most people for Colleen, but I liked the fact that the editors did a little expose on her legs. It gave me a real sense that she'd been on that island for a month, which is not something we the viewers always get, even though they've all looked grungy from time to time. Sure, now this show is mostly about winning the mil, but it's also about "roughing it" on a tropical island. I was actually kinda hoping Colleen would win the reward challenge, as her legs looked like they could use a bath. By the way, did anyone notice that the immunity challenge favored Colleen as the person with the smallest feet and the least amount of mass to balance on them? I think she can't be too smart sitting there boasting that she is picking her scabs and scratching all night. I've spent time in the woods and granted up her in Canada we have some nasty mosquitos, but come on. there is a clinical name for people who inflict injuries upon themselves intentionally. after all you heard kelly say "Colleen has cuts and she does not know where they came from"   Top

I just know I read it somewhere) that Colleen's leg mess was mainly caused by a vitamin deficiency, which explains why her problem seemed disproportionately worse than perhaps some others (the bugs were just being opportunistic once there were open wounds). She wasn't alone, though. Jenna said, when she finally received a decent medical exam after getting the boot, she had a staph infection on her legs. I also read somewhere that Colleen said the truly alarming condition of her legs, by which I assume she means they were becoming much worse than her fellow castaways, who all had similar problems of one degree or another, was just starting to show in the days during which she was pretty sure she was a Pagonger-pagoner. She also said, had she somehow survived another three-day cycle (remember, we're not getting a realistic chronology here ... on the island, these things were compressed into a timeframe that's nothing like the episodic weekly one we're experiencing), the docs were going to leap all over the problem ... so to speak.   Top

Here's a nuerosurgeon getting the heeby-jeebies from some cuts and scrapes on someones legs. I almost pissed myself. I can just picture Sean performing brain surgery and leaving half-way through exclaiming "this is just to gross for me". I'll never forget that look for as long as I live.   Top

I've had alot of dealings with doctors and I have seen that look before. (Makes you wonder why they ever choose medicine.) It was a priceless moment. It left me thinking if some cast member had accidently broken an arm and the bone was sticking out of the skin we would have been treated to a camera shot of Doc Sean fainting dead away on the beach. "RE: Colleen's legs" I once travelled around Indonesia for an extended period of time and was attacked alive by mosquitos and other critters. My ankles had scores of bites on them and as I was away from any semblance of society and not really all that sharp I sort of let them get worse and worse. It ended up that one of my ankles swelled up to the size of a small beach ball and I had to get antibiotics and ointment and hope for the best. The scars lasted about three or four years. The thing is that like Colleen the others around me didn't get attacked as bad, hardly at all really. I've since heard that it has to do with a B-12 deficiency, and sure enough, when I go camping or travelling I find the buggers leave me alone if I down a bunch of B-12. Not very entertaining, but I've been thinking about that experience each time I saw or heard about Colleen's legs.   Top
