It's the same length as the last two, the contestants will be there for 39 days, but perhaps the crew has to stay for the entire 43 days?

Thanks drawde236. I was just thinking about the filming dates for S5. I remember the application stating that filming would start approximatley the first of June 2002.So when are the contestants sequestered(SP)? When do you think they fly out to Thailand? Did they have an opportunity to view the entire S4 show? If the S5 contestants viewed the entire S4 season what twists and changes will lie ahead for them? We know that they will arrive in a different fashion as stated by MB and JP. Anyone care to fly to Thailand next week and see if you can catch a glimpse of our new "characters"? LOL Just a little speculation to last us through the summer (YEA RIGHT). Here is to good spoiling!!!

Supposedly, anyway. Actually, if the game started on 6/5/02 that would have been sometime yesterday (Thailand is ahead of us in reaching the calendar date by 12 hours from the Eastern U.S., I believe). Hope someone is paying attention to what the weather's like in Thailand, it could come in handy later on in establishing the actual timeline."If all machines were to be annihilated at one moment, so that not a knife nor lever nor rag of clothing nor anything whatsoever were left to man but his bare body alone that he was born with, and if all knowledge of mechanical laws were taken from him so that he could make no more machines, and all machine-made food destroyed so that the race of man should be left as it were naked upon a desert island, we should become extinct in six weeks." jkokoj,I wish I had time to keep up with the weather in Thailand because I think it will play some part in S5. The link below is the USA Today weather page for Phuket (just north of Tarutao Island). This might help you, if you wanted to keep up with it. http://www.usatoday.com/weather/basemaps/asia/nw485650.htm PackMan "When the only tool you own is a hammer, all problems begin to resemble a nail." - Abraham Maslow

21. "RE: Weather" |
Assuming the filming is starting around now (does...........anyone know for sure?), the conditions at the playground could be substantialy different from the previous, duh. MB, being stuck with the predisposition that the tropical settings promote lively participation, is sticking with the 'you can live off the land' site, and, at the same time, plops'em down on the wettest spot yet, answering to the African drought scene with: 'you want water?", to the Marquesses scene with: 'here it is', and rubbing it in with a S5 'say when!'. Where the 'when' might be early on for the pain-in-the-ass players. It's hard to tell from a news/weather report, the actual conditions, but the potential is blatenly there, including a possible production nightmare for MB (pushing the envelope). The noticable difference of setting effect is: confining the tribes, resulting in dramatic confrontations and edge-iness (to the patient players: good things come to those who wait), v/s, competitors having more space/escape-time, resulting in: time for deep, thought-out strategies laced with more opportunities for moral stand-ups and stetegic alliances. weather.com..........Phuket, close enough. http://www.weather.com/weather/local/THXX0018?GO=GO&letter=P It's gonna be hot, it's gonna be wet, and it might be health-risky (let's hope not). From the (6/4/02) reports, rain is the norm (since 6/1/02) with winds under 10 mph for that lingering effect. Feel's like 100° daytime and 80° nighttime. From Thai-sites, there are admittions of virus risks, wild smart-monkeys who're just survivin', virus carryin' mesquitos, and, sneaky snakes of the large type. I'm recomending: demanding bug repelant (lest "we quit"), multiple fires sites at night, despite the rain, a overnight "anchor watch", and, a be-carefull-when-you're-walkin'round attitude. Inevitably, MB provides certain provisions to ensure taking competitors as close to the survival-line as possible and still pull off a show without mishap. Bravo to Sarah/Rob calling dibbs on the infalable raft bed, and the producers for turning it into an eppisode issue. Did they later use it for a roof? I don't recall much detailed camera focus on the shelters, leading me to wonder exactly how much real support is given there, as well as medical maintainence, in order to prevent show downfalls. The vidcap of Sean falling off a tree...was he spreading a plastic tarp, where did that come from? Without a doubt, S5 campers will need a better shack than seen before. Will it be off-handed to them, or not? Will S5 (makers and cast) be the first to face reality, without the comfort of control? So far, "Mother Nature" has not made an appearance, else MB is succesfully avoiding? His ability to push the enviromental conditions to a contestant's agreeable limits is the mark (no pun intended). The games' voting-stategy-lure is being replicated, without care, with all the proceeding spinoffs. The only appealing projects will be those that are the most real, duh, and blending of challanges... physical/mental/social/moral, and, Survivors' ace-in-the-hole, "life threatening existence". Paschal's strength-to-the-end is a comendable monument (without the trophy), with equal respect to others' successes. If produced on the up and up, the "winner" will swing between 1.the most decietfull and 2. the most undecietfull. Too much of either will dead end. Future challenges...Amazon? Have you lost your mind? That would have to either be at an unconvincing safe-haven-site with misleading video portraying a deep territory setting, or, an actual remote location with presecured quarters (like Africa). Cold weather spot (like antartica): creates confrontation only, might as well be a "big brother" thing. Altho, with game-layout creativity, any location can support the issue of: giving players some space/creativity, instead of forcing quick confrontational situations. It is important to be able to make quick decsisions, and one's ability to do this effectivly, coralates directly to one's "value" in our society, but also, when time permits, deep consideration, when possible, will determine the best outcome. That's a fine-line. Weather forecaster: strongly needed...good pay...no accurracy required...Where do I sign? Nature's balance/check......"You are a little, little, man"
