LAST EDITED ON 04-10-09 AT 08:22 AM (EST)Seeing that list really helps! Thanks, Glow! Here's a subset I pulled out: Unchained Melody (Oh, my love, my darling, I've hungered for your love) Somewhere (West Side Story) Born To Be Wild Stormy Weather New York, New York I Got Rhythm The Way You Look Tonight Aint Too Proud To Beg I'm finding it hard to believe that Born To Be Wild is from 1968! Over 40 years old
Kris--I think I would swoon if Kris sings "The Way You Look Tonight". And I hoping Matt does NOT sing it. Lil--I think it's important to stay away from anything Fantasia got huge props for on the show...like Summertime, that Fantasia sang in season 3 and it is the third highest rated performance on the whatnottosing site for AI. Here's the list of songs that were performed in season 3, top 8, movie themes: http://www.whatnottosing.com/episodes.asp?id=38 when there were the three divas: Fantasia, JHud, and LaToya. Interesting that Diana Degarmo hit the bottom 2 from that week and went on to place second that season.

Ever since you made this suggestion I have not been able to get it out of my head! Here is what looks to be a live performance by the Righteous Brothers on Shindig, singing "Unchained Melody". I totally could see Adam singing this song--wait for the last 15 seconds or so of the song and see how high the lead sings! Wow! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-idDbIfGvw Bring on the Adam falsetto.

I just cross referenced it in the whatnottosing database and found that David Cook sang it at top 3 last year. Hmmmm. But Danny could Gokey-ize it or something. Here's the youtube of Josh doing it...Danny won't be as country...but he seems to be leaning toward light country: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWB0HIPZEcI Here's David Cook's:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRC3lgxYlrs complete with the on stage strings. If Danny asked for it--he would do well with this and on stage strings and get the pimp spot.

What about "Flashdance, What A Feeling" for Lil? It has a lot of power notes in the upper range that would suit her well. She needs an upbeat passionate song.

I think Lil would do great with the song "Home" from the movie The Wiz. Diana Ross sung it in the movie version and Stephanie Mills sung it in the Broadway version. It's a beautiful song that requires power note ability but also someone who has vocal control and a good vocal tone to their voice.

There's a good article on the whatnottosing site about 8 simple rules for choosing a song on AI:http://www.whatnottosing.com/#hped Here's the core part: "1. Choose a likeable, accessible, crowd-pleasing song... 2. ...Whose strength is in the songwriting, rather than the personality or exceptional talents of the artist... 3. ...Which hasn't already been sung to death on the show, or so well by a prior contestant that you'd only be inviting negative comparisons... 4. ...Which lies realistically within your performing capabilities... 5. ...Which you can rearrange to showcase your personality and vocal strengths, without destroying the song's fundamental character or resorting to gimmicks... 6. ...Which you fully understand the message of the lyrics and can convey their meaning confidently... 7. ...Which can be compressed effectively into one of Idol's 90-second "drive-by" performance slots... 8. ...And finally, for heaven's sake, don't forget to sing it well!" Great advice for this week or any week!

We did "Brigadoon" in high school and it is forever etched it my brain and one of my favorite musicals.Adam appeared in a stage production of "Brigadoon" in 2004. Here's a you tube mp3 of Adam singing "Come To Me, Bend To Me" from Brigadoon. If you don't listen to the whole thing, drop in around the 3:15 mark and listen for Adam to get to the high note at around 3:26 and just hold it...and hold it...and hold it. Wonder if this is what he will sing on Tuesday night. He already knows it, knows the phrasing and the nuance, it can be cut down to 2 minutes...could be a contender: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJYyqzUr6jU

From Mjsbigblog:"Here could be another clue from Ryan’s twitter… “What is the best movie song ever?” great movie songs thanks, the guys are going to kill me for this one it is not the best but peter gabriel song in shall we dance, remake called? Then later he says… yes book of love. great one." If someone IS singing "Book of Love" that would sound like Danny or possibly Kris. Could be really good.
I liked that song in "Shall We Dance" and was disappointed that you had to buy the whole soundtrack if you wanted to buy the song.

That wouldn't reference anything to do with Bill Bixby, would it? (Courtship of Eddie's Father? Or there was a movie of that name with Glenn Ford back in the 60's) That's what immediately came to mind when I saw this - of course, there's always Eddie Munster's father, Herman, too - HA! Or Eddie Vedder/Pearl Jam - they had contributions to "Dead Man Walking", "I Am Sam", and others (that's, of course, if it's open to songs from ANY movie, not just musicals, top 100, etc.)Random thoughts from a seriously unbalanced mind....

From another board... Edward Scissorhand’s (Eddie's) father was played by Vincent Price, who made a career out of making people holler. Course, if you are hollering out of fear, you would call it a scream. (Actually, Eddie Munster’s father also might make people scream at first sight.) So, a holler for Eddie’s father (be it Vincent Price or Herman Munster) is a scream. Maybe Adam is singing Whisper To A Scream from the movie Scream? Coincidentally, the dude who played Nice Guy Eddie’s father in Reservoir Dogs was also in a horror movie called…From A Whisper To A Scream, which was narrated by…Vincent Price. Annnnyway, song actually sounds like something Adam could pull off with a little remixing, and it gives Simon a chance to freak out over the bird reference in the lyrics, which is always fun.

Here’s my take on the Holler for Eddie’s Father clue:Courtship of Eddie’s Father - TV show - Harry Nilsson wrote the show’s theme song “Best Friend.” Harry Nilsson also wrote a song as a tribute to the Beatles, titled “Stand Up and Holler.” You can hear an mp3 clip - google - for the love of harry stand up and holler So, Adam could be singing a song from one of the Beatles five movies., like “I Am The Walrus” from “Magical Mystery Tour” (probably not - pretty weird!), or he could be singing a song from a movie that was written/performed by a member of the Beatles, for instance, ” Live & Let Die” theme by Paul McCartney & Wings. I’m going with this one, shows off Adam’s vocal strength, and this week should be up-tempo after last week’s anthem to angst ridden teens. ------------------- Lamberts next clue is apparently “The bird did it” ---------------- Somebody suggested "Live and Let Die" by Wings. I'm going with that.

LAST EDITED ON 04-14-09 AT 05:02 PM (EST)Hi, nice to have you posting! Here are two new clues from MJsbigblog: "On IDF someone posted that a back up singer twittered this comment: Songs from movies is the theme @ American Idol tonight! Rehearsal is proving to “separate the men from the boys” so to speak… I love it!" and
"Lamberts next clue is apparently “The bird did it” This fits a "Wings" song, like "Live and Let Die" and "Whisper To A Scream (Birds Fly)". But who knows? And we know how much Simon loves bird references. ETA: saw that Guns N Roses did a version of Live and let die. Could that be the Adam version if he chooses that song? I always think of McCartney.
