presgrl9 27 desperate attention whore postings DAW Level: "Beauty Pageant Celebrity Judge" 04-19-04, 03:27 PM (EST) "Diana is going to make a Come-back!" Okay, okay! I read all over these boards "The three divas" and "The top four: Jennifer, Latoya, George and Fantasia ,etc... It is always the same. I can see all four as doing well in the competition, obviously they have been voted four of the best singers/idols in America within a particular age group. My office started a poll at the beginning of the contest in which we vote each week on who leaves, as well as voted on the winner at the beginning of the season, which we cannot change. I picked Diana. I thought she was very talented, had a great voice, her age brought something new to the competition we haven't quite seen in other seasons and she's a very pretty young girl with a powerful voice! She's sung national anthems, done pageants, etc.. and all I ever hear about her is "her robotic performances". I agree her past two shows have not been up to par but I really wish people would give her a chance. Think of Carmen Rasmussen. She was certainly much worse than Diana but we saw her go far, much further than she should have. I don't expect people to stop voting for one of the "three divas" or George. Please keep in mind Diana was sick two weeks ago, and in an up-close interview last week on some TV show (forgot which one) Paula said she was still not fully recovered. BAD choice of song last week, but I don't think it was absolutely terrible! What I'm trying to say is despite the past couple of weeks of bad song selection, I do think this girl has an amazing voice and I'm asking voters to at least give her one last chance to prove herself. At Braves games, "Vote Diana" is on the screen for long periods of time, just as John S. and other contestants' schools are doing, her high school I believe is also doing the "Mass voting". Despite the fact Simon has not given her ONE positive comment, she takes everything with a smile. I think the only reason she did the Celine Dion song last week (aside from the fact that has always been her idol) is to prove to Simon she didn't have to be "cutesey". She took what he said from past weeks and tried to prove him wrong but then gets the comment "you're like an overgrown child. This stuff is too old for you". Poor girl can't win. I'm not saying she necessarily deserves to win and is the best of the competition. I think Latoya will win, which is good, but I think Diana could be a front runner for the top three so please give her a chance. She's fabulous! GO DIANA!   Top

She had better or I think she could go this week with John Stevens obvious fan base. I wonder if a sign at a baseball game telling you to vote is a help or a hinderance. After all we are voting on the best singer or performer that night. Just because a sign says to vote could actually turn people off. They should just say "Go Diana". For 16 she does sing well but not well enough to be The American Idol considering some of her competition. I do think she is better then Jasmine. I know everyone hates what Simon says but lets face it, either the show is rigged or American listens to what he says.   Top

If she were to come back and prove that she deserved my vote on a particular night I would most definitely vote for her. I know she was sick and I know she was pretty good at the start but I tend to vote for who I thought performed best that week.(with the exception that I made a promise to vote for JPL, and I did) So, if Diana makes it through the next couple of weeks and she does something that makes me feel she did well, I would vote for her. I'm not a huge Fantasia fan but when she does well I vote for her because she deserves it. if you don't have anything nice to say, come sit next to me.   Top

Here are my feelings about Diana. She started out great and has been slipping since she did her "highschool play" performance. (I believe that's what Simon called it.) At this point they are supposed to improve not get worse. Jennifer for example couldn't get a compliment out of Simon either, but she took all of Simon's advice, and improved every week until she got to where she needs to be, and now he compliments her and hasn't said anything bad about her for 2 weeks. I can understand that Diana was sick but that's just something that happened, it happened to Jasmine too. There shouldn't be sympathy when it comes to this competition, that's how I feel about it.I like Diana, but I'm going to be voting for who sounds the best to me. I don't understand why Diana would chose such a hard song to sing when she is sick. That makes no sense to me, had she picked a song that didn't strain her voice, she probably would've sounded great.   Top

As a matter of fact, the only two times I've been moved to vote for someone in the finals have been because they finished in the bottom 3 the week before and wowed me with a performance that made me say "They don't deserve to be there again." Would I be willing to vote for Diana? There are a lot of IFs. IF she sang a song I didn't despise. IF she sang it beautifully. IF she shows significant improvement from her prior performances. I have been voting for Diana a lot only because I don't want her to go before undeserving performers (I won't name names) I think she can definatly kick some a*s if she makes it farther in the show. I think Diana can sing, but for me she's PERFORMING, not attempting to connect to the audience. In that sense she reminds me of the other Kimberly (not Clarke)from AI2. I always had the feeling she was aware she was ON STAGE. Both are almost too polished - not much genuine passion when they sing. Perhaps this is what Simon dislikes?   Top

Maybe I would feel differently if I was in the studio audience, but I feel as connected to her as ANY of the idols. Passion - I feel passion from Diana, Fantasia, LaToya, and Jennifer. All the others - including George - sound (or sounded) like they were having to try REALLY hard to stay on key, as if they were in pain just trying to get the notes out. I know I have felt their pain listening to them. I often find myself cringing, gritting my teeth, and praying for it to end. My wife can't even listen to their whole songs! Is it just me, or is Diana just about always the first singer up? I'm of the opinion that the closer the singer is to the end of the show, the more the audience remembers the performance and gets behind him/her. I do think a lot of people 'forget' how good Diana can sing because she seems to always go on at the very beginning of the show, and is forgotten by the time we get to vote for her!! Am I crazy? Does anyone else wonder about this too? Has she ever ended a show? The first time she sang ("I've Got the Music in Me"), she was first. Has anyone else besides LaToya, Fantasia or Jennifer ever ended a show??? Don't you think placement in the evening affects scoring?? Does anyone know how placement is decided?   Top

It's supposedly random, but stats have shown that the performers that go first and last always have an advantage, but that's a good thing. I do find it difficult to believe that they sandwiched Jon Stevens between Latoya and Fantasia. I think he got the bad spot.   Top

I can't believe the judges thought she was good! The last 1/3 of the song was good, but a few lines of belting does not make a good song. She was definitely having pitch trouble through the first song. I thought she was better last week actually. She's still going downhill to me. However, she is always better than Jon, and she still did beat George last night, so I think she should stay. (She's ok as 4th or 5th to me, but no farther)   Top

Everyone tells me I am nuts and that she did great last night but I did not see it. I want her to do well because I like her but I thought she was flat through her entire performance last night. I agree with you on how the bottom three should play out too. I was having no problem getting through for Jennifer, we voted for two hours last night and got through about 50-75 times for Jennifer with very little busy signal. That's why we kept voting because we were afraid that with the lines not being busy that she wasn't getting a lot of votes. if you don't have anything nice to say, come sit next to me.   Top

Wow, if there is one thing I have noticed on these boards, it is how differently people see the same performance. I thought Diana did very well Latin night, and not so well Big Band night. She has accomplished quite a bit just having the judges say she ought to be top 3. I do think her wardrobe choices are hurting her. I don't think we need to be telling our teenage girls they need to be skinny to be successful. But she needs to dress for her body type. Jasmine and LaToya both have more of the "look", but should that be what it is all about?   Top

I miss that look, especially given how horrendous her last two wardrobe choices have been. I think a lot of us know how to dress to compliment the figures we've got, even though they're not perfect. My biggest frustration with Diana is that the clothing choices get worse and worse each week. I contrast that with Jennifer, who once she got in the hands of a stylist, learned how to pick outfits that were more flattering to her figure.
