should you be among the group that has had such a thing.

If not...guess when the nuptials were based on the song.

by UB40.

Funny story...well, once I got done being peeved

On our wedding video, the mother of one of my friends was heard to be saying "Fools Rush In...great choice" I called her on it a few years ago *giggle* (in case you don't know, it's because the lyrics say "wise men say only fools rush in")

We had two:

Here and Now, by Luther Vandross for just the bride & groom
Your the Inspiration, by Chicago for when the wedding party joined in.

We couldn't decide between the two, so we went with both! DH picked Chicago & I picked Luther.

We also chose Wind Beneath My Wings, by Bette Midler for the "in-laws" dance. Since my MIL died before the wedding & my dad wasn't there, DH danced with my mom and I danced with my FIL.

3. "RE: Companion way back thread: What was your wedding song"

You're My Home," by Billy Joel.

Given our rather transient lifestyles (up to that point anyway), we particularly liked the lyrics and sentiment.

When you look into my eyes
and you see the crazy gypsy in my soul
it always comes as a surprise
when i feel my withered roots begin to grow

well i never had a place
that I could call my very own
but that's all right my love
cuz you're my home.

when you touch my weary head
and you tell me everything will be all right
You say use my body for your bed
and my love will keep you warm throughout the night

well i'll never be a stranger
and i'll never be alone
wherever we're together
that's my home.

Home could be the Pennsylvania turnpike
Indiana's early morning dew
high up in the hills of California
home is just another word for you

Well I never had a place that i could call my very own
but that's all right my love cuz you're my home

If i travel all my life
and i never get stop and settle down
long as i have you by my side
there's a roof above and good walls all around
you're my castle, you're my cabin
and my instant pleasure dome
i need you in my house
cuz you're my home,..
you're my home.

Nutz, Luther Vandross died today.
Spidey, those are beautiful lyrics! I checked the song out on the internet and it's really nice. I wonder why I haven't heard it before.
We walked down the aisle to "Somewhere" from West Side Story.

Come What May from Moulin Rouge. My father/daughter dance song was a little more poignant to me - There You'll Be by Faith Hill. I was more emotional during that song than I was during DH's and my first dance.

ETF my italics.

It's such a good wedding song. Baz Lurman even said in an interview he wanted people to use it as their wedding song. The first time I saw the movie, I told DH "You realize that's the song we're going to dance to at our wedding, right?"

DW wanted us to sing it during the ceremony, but I've never been a big fan of the bride and/or groom singing during their own ceremony. We ended up just making it the first song we played at the reception.

I wanted us to exit the church to the "Medal Ceremony" music from Star Wars, but DW nixed that. But we did have "Time Warp" at least.

10. "Amazed"
Believe it or not, but we've got a wedding song... Amazed by Lonestar. We had it signed by an interpreter for us.

Everytime our eyes meet
This feeling inside me
Is almost more than I can take
Baby when you touch me
I can feel howmuch you love me
And it just blows me away
I've never been this close to anyone or anything
I can hear your thoughts
I can see your dreams

Chorus:
I don't know how you do what you do
I'm so in love with you, it just keeps getting better
I wanna spend the rest of my life, with you by my side
Forever and ever
Every little thing that you do
Baby I'm amazed by you

The smell of you skin
The taste of your kiss
The way you whisper in the dark
Your hair all around me, baby you surround me
You touch every place in my heart
Oh, it feels like the first time everytime
I wanna spend the whole night in your eyes

Repeat Chorus

Every little thing that you do
I'm so nove with you
It just keeps getting better
I wanna spend the rest of my life, with you by my side
Forever and ever
Every little thing that you do
Oh, every little thing that you do
Baby I'm amazed by you...

11. "RE: Companion way back thread: What was your wedding song"
We wanted to go with something a little less common but something that still was meaningful to us. It's a beautiful song. Dh was lobbying for Fortunate by Maxwell, but this one won out...

No One Else Comes Close (Joe)

When we turn out the lights
The two of us alone together
Something's just not right
But girl you know that I would never ever let another's touch
Come between the two of us
Cause no one else will ever take your place

Chorus:
No one else comes close to you
No one makes me feel the way you do
You're so special girl, to me
And you'll always be, eternally
Everytime I hold you near
You always say the words I love to hear
Girl with just a touch, you can do so much

No one else comes close

And when I wake up to
The touch of your head on my shoulder
You're my dream come true
Oh, girl you know I'll always treasure
Every kiss, every day
I love you girl in every way
And I always will cause in my eyes

Chorus (x2)

No one else comes close
No one else comes close

It was never really a radio hit, but we happened to hear it on the radio on our anniversary, which was pretty cool

We had two also:

For DH & I it was the Beach Boys God Only Knows{/i} then for everyone else to join in it was Englebert Humperdink's classic After the Lovin'. We love cheesy songs and just thought that one summed it up!

For my dance with my father it was Stevie Wonder's You Are the Sunshine of My Life

Cutting the cake was the Beatles' Two of Us

We walked into the reception to the Jaw's theme.

Look at me I got a Sweet Summer Syren Siggie!

Yeah we are strange...had the photographer take a picture of me having to be dragged away from my house by bridesmaids.

We played Al Di Meola and the World Sinfonia’s CD, “The Grande Passion” throughout our wedding. A very passionate CD. We have a lot of fond memories associated with it.

And, of course, everyone, including the preacher, wore Harley T-shirts. Even my parents. I did have to lend a few out.

From 'Phantom of the Opera' for our first dance. 'Wind Beneath My Wings' for father-daughter dance.

The DJ looked at me like I was crazy when I told him he had to play 'Paradise by the Dashboard Light' during the reception. 'Uh, Lady, you know that's not exactly a romantic song.' Yea, but it's 'our' song, the one that was playing when he proposed.

We opted to play cd music instead of having a pianist/vocalist at our ceremony. It was less thing to coordinate.

We used a lot of Jim Brickman for the processional.
Our unity candle song was "To Make You Feel My Love" redone by Garth Brooks.
Our recessional was "Everlasting Love" as redone by U2 & then a string of other fun remakes.

Since we couldn't decide on a first dance song, we let our guests choose. They put suggestions in a hat & one of my bridesmaids drew it out. She luckily tossed the first suggestion (which was a metal song) & went with "Wonderful Tonight" by Eric Clapton. Cliche', I know. WE would have danced to the metal song & had a good laugh, but Clapton was more romantic.

We are not married, but agree that if we did, the song would have to be Shining Star by the Greatful Dead. It was the first song he ever gave to me online. We used to download music and send it to each other, so we could listen to the same music when we were chatting.

The other song, that would have to be played sometime would be Luka Bloom's Throw your arms around me This one is right up there with the other one in our hearts. I suppose because at the time he gave me this one, we were wondering if we would ever get the chance to toss our arms around each other.

Throw Your Arms Around Me

I will come for you at nighttime
I will raise you from your sleep
I will kiss you in four places
And go running along your street
I'll squeeze the life out of you
You will make me laugh and make me cry
We will never forget it
You will make me call your name
And I'll shout it to the blue summer sky

We may never meet again
So shed your skin and let's get started
You will throw your arms around me
You will throw your arms around me

I dreamed of you at nighttime
I watched you in your sleep
I met you in high places
Touched your head and I touched your feet
So if you disappear out of view
You know I'll never say goodbye
I will try to forget it
You will make me call your name
And I'll shout it to the blue summer sky

We may never meet again
So shed your skin and let's get started
You will throw your arms around me

Sigh, I may have to go upstairs and give that man a bit of a cuddle.

I freaking love that song, Sunny Bunny.

25. "RE: Companion way back thread: What was your wedding song"

Ahhh, such a romantic thread. We had 2 songs at our reception.

The Rose (Bette Midler sang it)

Some say love it is a river
that drowns the tender reed
Some say love it is a razor
that leaves your soul to bleed

Some say love it is a hunger
an endless aching need
I say love it is a flower
and you it's only seed

It's the heart afraid of breaking
that never learns to dance
It's the dream afraid of waking
that never takes the chance
It's the one who won't be taken
who cannot seem to give
and the soul afraid of dying
that never learns to live

When the night has been too lonely
and the road has been too long
and you think that love is only
for the lucky and the strong
Just remember in the winter
far beneath the bitter snows
lies the seed
that with the sun's love
in the spring
becomes the rose

Evergreen (Barbra Streisand)

Love soft as an easy-chair
Love fresh as the morning air
One love that is shared by two
I have found with you
Like a rose under the April snow
I was always certain love would grow
Love ageless and evergreen
Seldom seen by two
You and I will make each night a first
Every day a beginning
Spirits rise and their dance is un-rehearsed
They warm and excite us Cause we have the brightest
Love, Two lights that shine as one
Morning glory and midnight sun

Time we've learned to sail above
Time won't change the meaning of
One love
Ageless and ever, evergreen.

We had opera music. I think it was about some girl who was going to throw herself off a bridge if she didn't get to marry the guy of her choice. (Then I think she does)In any case it sounded lovely.

We thought of some if we didn't have live music:
I'm going slightly mad. Queen
Lonely lab of broken hearts by the Arrogant Worms.

We might have considered "Who wants to live forever (when love must die)", but I'll never admit that when I'm sober.

First dance song was Endless Love - No - take your finger out from your throat - BARF - not the song from Blue Lagoon (Lionel Ritchie/Dianna Ross) but a much much older song, and I don't know who sang it - I found it on a library tape when I was searching for something I had never heard before, then lost it after the wedding and haven't been able to find a copy since...

Second song - where parents etc join in - was Restless Heart - You Can Depend on Me - a fun rockin' two step.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane (married 12 years now) - I'll have to see if I can find both songs again!

I still really love this song:

Love, I get so lost, sometimes
days pass and this emptiness fills my heart
When I want to run away
I drive off in my car
but whichever way I go
I come back to the place you are

All my instincts, they return
and the grand facade, so soon will burn
Without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside

In your eyes
the light the heat
In your eyes
I am complete
In your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
In your eyes
the resolution of all the fruitless searches
In your eyes
I see the light and the heat
In your eyes oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light
the heat I see in your eyes

Love, I don't like to see so much pain
so much wasted and this moment keeps slipping away
I get so tired of working so hard for our survival
I look to the time with you to keep me awake and alive

And all my instincts, they return
And the grand facade, so soon will burn
Without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside
In your eyes, in your eyes,
in your eyes, in your eyes

In your eyes
the light the heat
In your eyes
I am complete
In your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
In your eyes
the resolution of all the fruitless searches
In your eyes
I see the light and the heat
In your eyes
oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light,
the heat I see in your eyes
In your eyes, in your eyes
in your eyes, in your eyes
in your eyes, in your eyes

I came down the aisle to 'Canon and Gigue' by Pachelbel. Would you believe I forget what the recessional was? Possibly 'Trumpet Volontary' by Purcell.

We really loved dancing to this song.

Our second song was "True Companion" by Marc Cohn.

Baby, I've been searching
Like everybody else
Can't say nothing different
About myself

Sometimes, I'm an angel
And sometimes, I'm cruel
And when it comes to love
I'm just another fool

Yes, I'll climb a mountain
I'm gonna swim the sea
There ain't no act of God, girl
Could keep you safe from me

My arms are reaching out
Out across this canyon
I'm asking you to
Be my true companion
True companion
True companion

So, don't you dare
And try to walk away
I've got my heart set
On our wedding day

I've got this vision
Of a girl in white
Made my decision
That it's you, alright

When I take your hand
I'll watch my heart set sail
I'll take my trembling fingers
And I'll lift up your veil

Then I'll take you home
And with wild abandon
Make love to you
Just like a true companion
You are my true companion
I got a true companion
True companion

When the years have done
Irreparable harm
I can see us walking
Slowly arm in arm

Just like the couple
On the corner do
Cause, girl, I will always
Be in love with you

When I look in your eyes
I'll still see that spark
Until the shadows fall
Until the room grows dark

Then when I leave this Earth
I'll be with the angels standing
I'll be out there waiting
For my true companion
Just for my true companion
True companion
True companion

Obviously, I've never had a wedding. But I've sung at a few, so let me play, too!

I've had to do "For All We Know" (love that song), "I've Finally Found Someone" (the Barbra Streisand/Bryan Adams one from "The Mirror Has Two Faces" and some clunkers that well-meaning brides pick out. The worst is the song just called, I think, "The Wedding Song." I swear, the writer of that song just acted like he/she had two or three notes at his disposal. Bo-ring!

The Wedding Song was the song my first wife picked out and had played. That was a traditional wedding, church, reception, Dj’s etc. And you’re right, very boring.

Last (and I do mean last) wedding, to Mrs Frank was unconventional (as I’ve mentioned). In my sister’s back yard with a CD player on a table. Everyone in Harley shirts, well except my Dad, he refused, but my sister convinced him to at least wear H-D suspenders. (He was my best-man, died less than a month later). And our Great Dane was the ring bearer. Carried the rings in a metal Harley lunch box around his neck. My nieces took the pictures and we had our copies 1 hour after the wedding. It was great.

Thank Paul Stookey (of Peter Paul, and Mary) for inflicting "The Wedding Song" on a generation or two of star-crossed lovers.

For us:

Processional: "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring"

Recessional: "Holy, Holy, Holy" (we were so traditional, it hurts)

But not at the reception!

First dance:
"The Meeting" by Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe

Surely I could tell
When I sleep tonight
A dream will call
And raise it's head in majesty
Dividing all my energy
To the meeting of your love

Where from whence it came
Like a singer searching for a song
I try to reach where you belong
As I will be the song for you
I will be your servant child

No, oh no
I cannot be deceived
No, oh no
There's something
That I feel
There's something that I feel inside

Surely I could tell
If you ask me Lord
To board the train
My life my love would be the same
As I could be the one for you
In the meeting of your love
In the meeting of your love

Dance with the 'rents: "Love Can Build A Bridge" by the Judds

Last dance: "Keeper Of The Stars" by Tracy Byrd

It was no accident me finding you
Someone had a hand in it
Long before we ever knew
Now I just can't believe you're in my life
Heaven's smilin' down on me
As I look at you tonight

CHORUS:
I tip my hat to the keeper of the stars
He sure knew what he was doin'
When he joined these two hearts
I hold everything
When I hold you in my arms
I've got all I'll ever need
Thanks to the keeper of the stars

Soft moonlight on your face oh how you shine
It takes my breath away
Just to look into your eyes
I know I don't deserve a treasure like you
There really are no words
To show my gratitude

REPEAT CHORUS

It was no accident me finding you
Someone had a hand in it
Long before we ever knew

Libra, I bet you have a great voice!

I'm probably in a dying minority, but I love the big traditional church music. My dad used to direct a church choir and my mom was an organist, so I'd always find myself getting in the choirs and eventually became a pianist at a church.

I'm not a big fan of the "praise and worship" trend, and neither are my parents. To me, it's not the same having someone wail over guitars and drums as it is to hear a full pipe organ (maybe some brass and strings if the church is big enough) playing Bach or Handel.

In fact (and I'm loath to admit this) I can't help flipping the station on TBN every once in awhile to see Diane Bish travel the world trying out the organs.

I Love You Always Forever is by Donna Lewis. The only reason I know this is that it's our "official" song. It came out right as DH and I began dating (in high school) and when we talked on the phone at night, it usually played on the radio at least once. So it just kind of became our song and DH even bought the cd - a pretty girly cd for a 16 year old guy to buy. When we were choosing our wedding song though, it seemed a little too pop-ish and more like a dance track than a slow dance song.

Not so "way back" for me (Oct. 1/04), but our first dance was to U2's "All I Want Is You". Since we got married at an old (but newly renovated) movie theatre, we used the available screen and projected a video/picture montage to the song, telling the story from our childhoods, to when we first met, and ending at a photo taken just before the wedding. DH did an amazing job with the video... and at taking the attention off of him dancing!!

I walked down the aisle to a live, orchestral arrangement of The Beatles “Here, There and Everywhere”.

If you can believe it, I actually know a couple who’s first dance song was to Meatloaf’s “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad”. In case you’re not familiar with it, the chorus goes a little something like this:

I want you
I need you
But -- there ain’t no way I’m ever gonna love you
Now don’t be sad
’cause two out of three ain’t bad

Un-freakin’-believable.

I'm not sure what this says about us, but we couldn't agree on a song so we just let the DJ pick, and for the life of me I can't remember what the first song we danced to was. Prolly cause I kept saying watch out for my toes, and DH kept saying would you let me lead? It was a great time though.

We've been to way to many weddings where the first dance is "I knew the bride when she used to rock & roll".

Maybe I'm showing "the softer side of Sears" because some family crises have passed, but I couldn't help thinking of that scene in the movie "Always" where two fire fighting pilots (Richard Dreyfuss and Holly Hunter) are dancing.

She's trying to lead and he's muttering "Left rudder. Left rudder." as he tries to turn her on the dance floor.

Not exactly a wedding dance, but good, funny stuff.

We had traditional music for the processional and recessional and didn't have dancing at our reception (well at least the one right after the wedding) but had "I Swear" by John Michael Montgomery as our "wedding song". Xdh, listened to it on the way home from NOLA where we met and it made him cry, so it became our song.

I have no idea what we danced to at the "party" up here once we got back.... that? is all a blur!

I did sing for several girlfriends weddings though, and one of my favorites that I did for 2 different friends is Honestly by Stryper.

HONESTLY
Stryper
Michael Sweet

Honestly I believe in you
Do you trust in me
Patiently I will stand by you
I will stand beside you faithfully

And through the years
I will be a friend
For always and forever

Call on me and I'll be there for you
I'm a friend who always will be true
And I love you can't you see
That I can say I love you
Honestly yes

Call on me and I'll be there for you
I'm a friend who always will be true
And I love you can't you see
That I love you
Honestly
I will never betray your trust in me
And I love you can't you see
That I can say I love you
Honestly

Pretty melody and fun to sing.

Mine was "America the Beautiful" by Ray Charles.

Yeah that's a tough one, right?

Although, "Highway to Hell" would have been more appropriate.

I'm thinking that America the Beautiful could work if you also have an Air Force fly over during the last 8 bars.

Hmmmm, maybe that didn't happen.

The Way You look Tonight by Frank Sinatra.

Of course, this was one-upped a year later when our friends got married. The groom took singing lessons and recorded it to be played when they danced.

Icey bounced my Dicey

Frank's version is the best.

Too funny. DW and I went to a wedding where the Groom dedicated Baby Got Back to his bride.

For our wedding we danced to "After the Lovin" by Englebert Humperdink.

76. "We had...( you mean dance stuff right?)"
Music *in* our wedding was written and performed by a dear friend. It made me cry. But at the dance...

First was Eric Clapton 'You look wonderful tonight' as my DH says it is the most romantic song ever.

As the last song:
Taking you home - Don Henley

I had a good life
Before you came
I had my friends and my freedom
I had my name
Still there was sorrow and emptiness
’til you made me glad
Oh, in this love I found strength I never knew I had

1st chorus:
And this love
Is like nothing I have ever known
Take my hand, love
I’m taking you home
Taking you home

There were days, lonely days
When the world, wouldn’t throw me a crumb, no no
But I kept on believing
That this day would come

And this love
Is like nothing I have ever known, no no baby
Take my hand love
I’m taking you home
I’m taking you, home
Where we can be with the ones who really care
Home, where we can grow together
Keep you in, my heart forever

Instrumental (keyboard)

2nd chorus:
Oh and this love
Is like nothing I have ever known, oh no no baby
Take my hand love
I’m taking you home

3rd chorus:
Oh this love
Is like nothing I have ever known, no no baby
Take my hand.
I’m taking you home
I’m taking you, home
Yes I am, mm, mm, mm, hey baby, hey baby
Taking you home

Short instrumental w/background vocals

I’m taking you home baby
I’m taking you home.

It was kewl. Other than saying "I do" it was our favorite part of the day. It was timed exactly so we would be announced and the second after that, Trey rips it up. You should see my face in the video. Purely estatic.

Not to stomp all over all you "marrieds" parades or anything, but this thread is just one of the 2 million 3 hundred reasons I am so glad I never got married.

But, if I had ever done such a silly thing, I would have insisted on "Super Freak."

I'm such a slut for the blues.
There are very few songs used in and for weddings that don't svck, IMHO. Sap is sap, no matter who sings it.
