Kat has a crappy-ish attitude (not very gracious on tonight's episode), and Taylor bugs the poop outta me (the phrase "soul patrol" should be retired forever -- when I hear it I become homicidal), so I don't really care.If I had to choose, I'd pick Taylor, 'cause he's a marketing nightmare and he's the pick on votefortheworst.com. Kat doesn't exactly need an ego boost at this point, anyway. It hardly matters who wins next week. People will buy the albums of the top four finalists they like the best. All four have a very sound of their own and a lot of fans, so they'll all have success and be happy. Yay for them!

5. "RE: I voted for all 3..." |
When I attempt to be unannoyed at Katherine I go back many weeks and think why she wasn't one of my favorites. 1. I couldn't hear the excellence in her voice that the judges and her fans could hear so clearly. I vaguely recall noticing it somewhere around auditions and arriving in Hollywood but maybe I had her confused with somebody else. I've been taking everybody's word for it that she's got the skills. 2. I had no idea what kind of music she was trying to sing. There were other singers who made everything their type of music or who got weak when they had to trot off to another style for a week and got strong when they returned to their own. What people call "Katherine singing Blues" doesn't sound like blues to me. Paris sang some blues. I recognized that. I couldn't hear McPhee's genre. 3. Her attitude, clothes falling off, overly casual clothes, and sacharin (sp) facial expressions while she's not quite in tune sometimes are very distracting. Truth is that she looks exactly like a Pop Idol and with a little vocal coaching and proper recording equipment and the right songs probably would sound great, too. I just couldn't hear past the fluttering eyelashes and the heaving breasts illuminated by the lights flickering off her Dad's tearing, staring eyes. Daddy love creeping me out much? yes 4. Her odd reactions during the non-compliments? I think it's youth, exuberance, just not knowing how to handle it. She may not be a snob, just not have had anyone in her camp be realistic when she's off in any way. "What, no praise today?!" Who knows, she may be self-critical but have never heard anyone say what they really think. 5. I'll probably vote for her because I don't get Taylor at all. Maybe everything I said in 1-4 was rationalizing how I could accept a young woman I would have rather see gone before Elliott, Chris, and Mandisa. I don't hear the melody in Taylor's voice and it's not quite gravelly enough to impress me either. I know people love that he can squirm around. I'm impressed by dancers when their passion is incorporated with their dance skills (ask Napolean). I'm not impressed by the amazing lack of dancing ability. Yes, there are other men who got attention on stage by not-exactly dancing but Tyler is no Michael Hutchence, no Elvis. And his singing does nothing for me. It is reminiscent of Joe Cocker but lacks the gripping mind numbing power. just..don't..see..why...he's...been..so...darn...popular

6. "Why I like Taylor" |
To me, choosing Taylor at the Top 24 or Top 12 was a no-brainer. Taylor had what nobody else in teh competition had - a true deep-down love and passion for music, for singing, for performing. This, along side of his God-given voice for singing soul made it the entire package. The flailing around and 'Wooos' werne't a problem to me, because i understood that it was just him feeling the music and loving it. Go back and watch his performance of "You Are So Beautiful". Some people complained that his voice was cracking on the "...to me" part of the phrase. It wasn't. That was Taylor getting totally into the mesage of the song. He's a natural. Yeah, the guy is dance-challenged, but so what? He loves music, he loves singing, he loves performing. This is what he was put on this Earth to do. This is what AI is about. geekboy

What GB said.I've been in the Taylor camp from the very beginning because of what Geekboy describes. He sings from the heart, he clearly joyful in his music. I can really appreciate that. PLUS, he's got a great voice, wonderful texture, a nice range, and SKILL. I never cared for Kat -- I don't hate her, I just don't care. Another diva wannabe...yawn. She's been overrated, and then when the judges started actually critiqing people (not just Kat, but Kellie, Paris, Elliot, Taylor, Chris...they all got hit) folks threw up their hands and cried foul that the mean judges were picking on this poor sweet girl. Whatever. I grew to really like Elliott, and have been voting for both him and Taylor for several weeks. (BTW, didn't get through at all for either of them this week -- CONSPIRACY!!! kidding) I will continue to vote for Taylor.

Thanks for this post, geekboy. Well said, and I agree wholeheartedly. One thing I really noticed on Elvis night - of the four contestants, only Taylor could I picture doing all eight of the songs performed, doing them well and with variety and range, making each work for him. Katharine and Elliot, while maybe having the potential to do that, I couldn't see them pulling it off just yet. And Chris? I liked Chris fine and think he has a great voice, but when I try to imagine all eight sung by him, well, I really couldn't imagine it at all. No knock on Chris, just an observation of the differences. dk

I think it is Taylor's personality. He just throws whatever possibly-out-of-tune passion he has right at the audience. People like that emotional honesty. Plus, he's an attractive, likeable person.Katherine has a good voice, and she's pretty. She is also a tad insecure, which is not-surprising, given her youth, and emotional. Remember, kids are voting, and lots of this (voting outcomes--to the extent that they are really accurate) has to do with television image, not pure vocal talent. --Singer

To me it's personality, Taylor has it in spades, I don't see Katherine exhuding much personality at all. Taylor has the ability to really sell any song, his own enthusiasm is endless.

I'm not quite sure what to think of Taylor's moves and expressions. But vocally, I like him much better. I agree with the poster who indicted he has passion.I didn't watch this week. I didn't vote. I debated on whether I would watch the Tivo version. I saw bits and pieces. But Taylor had enough there to keep me watching all three of his entire performances. Had I watched and voted on Tuesday, I would have voted for Taylor. Coming from Richmond, all I've heard all week is how we have to vote for Elliott because he's the hometown favorite. I didn't think he was the best choice. Taylor has been consistent all year. The vote for him has been as well. While I think Katherine has a beautiful voice, I think at this point in time, Taylor's is better. So my votes will go to him. I believe Kat is better than Elliott (he was on when he was comfortable, but he had way too many nervous performances), but I don't think she was better than Chris. And I don't think she's better than Taylor. She should have gone out 3 at best. I will not reward her with any of my votes.

Elliott was a class act in his singing and in his departure, to bad you can't say the same for Kat, I know she was happy that she didn't get voted off but show a little class when it comes to your fellow idol. she looked like someone handed her a million bucks when they said that Ellott was leaving. I don't feel she has got it in her to be star material. She had a lot of off weeks as were Taylor and Elliott were right on the money every week.

Smiling because she did not lose does not mean that she is without class. Sometimes people smile nervously. This is what I meant upthread about her being a tad insecure, or appearing that way. I get the impression that sometimes she doesn't know quite what to do with her body. I've noticed that there are always some awkward moments when she is under scrutiny from the judges and when vote results are announced. I've seen that from week to week. I even saw it when she was singing "I Believe I Can Fly," and when she opted to ad lib rather than to stick with the lyrics. She looked uncomfortable, went for the glory notes, and got drubbed by Randy for doing so. Split-second artistic decisions are always a risk and so much is on the line when one has to make them. Taylor twitches his face a bit as well. He does it so much that I cannot begin to write about it here. But I do not hold that (nervous ticks) against either of them. I also do not think that Chris was being arrogant when he looked surprised when he got the boot. The facial expression was completely surprised, human, hurt and vulnerable. I did not read it as an expression of hubris. My point is that all of these folks are under a tremendous amount of pressure, and I don't envy them that position. I am sure that I would not quite know how to react in a similar situation. Plus, singing for anyone is such an extremely intimate expression that the risk of being rejected makes the singer VERY vulnerable in any moment when they are held under a microscope and judged. That is why I am forgiving of everyone's facial and vocal expressions--even Princess P's silly Minnie Mouse voice. Heck, I've even gotten over That Pickle's hick act, especially when one poster wrote me that she may have been doing that to over-compensate for being nervous. And if I can cut That Pickle a break, I can do the same for anyone. --Singer

>>Sometimes people smile nervously.<< >>But I do not hold that (nervous ticks) against either of them.<<Gotta disagree here...her facial expressions don't read to me like nervous tics at all. I'm willing to chalk some of it up to immaturity and/or nervousness, but not all of it. To me, it looks very much like she's a bit thoughtless & a bit of a bad winner. This is not the first time she has seemed inappropriately joyful at the elimination. Should she look 'not joyful at all'? Nope -- I'm not saying that. We've seen lots of contestants have moments of celebration at being declared safe...Kat just seems to take it a little over the edge. (Paris did too.) >>I also do not think that Chris was being arrogant<< I agree with this -- maybe a teensy over-confident, but who can blame him for that with the judges noses so far up his butt? But Chris never struck me as arrogant. (just boring)

You know, it's weird because I actually liked Kat in the beginning. I can't put my finger on why I don't like her anymore. I mean, she sings well enough most of the time, but she doesn't excite me at all. I don't think she'll ever be as good as Celine, Whitney, Mariah, etc.. I don't think she's as good as Kelly Clarkson. I don't think she's as good as Mandisa, or Frenchy, or Jennifer Hudson or LaToya London. She's a pretty girl who may or may not be letting all this go to her head, but I'd never buy her album and I'll forget about her when the season is over.Taylor isn't anywhere near as good vocally, but he makes me smile and I'd love to see him in a live show. I'm not sure if I'd buy his album, but I might. And I won't forget about him.

LAST EDITED ON 05-18-06 AT 07:21 PM (EST)http://us.f2.yahoofs.com/bc/429d145f_13c1b/bc/My+Documents/for+real.bmp?bfHiRnCB5UBnivLr I might not vote, but not because I'm disaffected by the process. I like both Kat and Taylor. I liked Elliott. He seemed to really like to sing without all the affectation that Taylor brings to it (thankfully, I haven't seen Taylor do the Ray Charles hug yourself and sway back and forth move in a while). I hope Elliott makes a few wise choices in the next year or so. He could easily have a career (though I'm not sure about being an Idol - he doesn't really have a big enough personality). I like Taylor's singing. I think Simon's comment about Taylor being like your favorite uncle drunk at your cousin's wedding is apt. He's in the moment and he's having fun. I'm less sure that he's malleable enough to be the next Idol and comform to the marketplace. Someone mentioned Vegas - I could see him with a place in Branson, Missouri as well. Kat has a personality issue similar to Elliott. I really liked her audition, but she wandered a bit during the rest of the season. I will say I don't get the criticism of her for being happy, and expressing happiness, that she was in the final 2. It's not like she ran over to Elliott trash talking him and his momma. Taylor may have been outwardly morose, but I often question the appropriatness of his emotional affect (kind of like I was never sure what was going on with Gideon). So, it'll depend on what happens next week. If there's one who clearly steps it up and knocks it out of the park (or if one crumbles under the pressure); or if Elliott and Chris publicly endorse one or another of them; then I might vote. Ace's endorsement would, of course, have a much more negative impact.

If I vote, it will be for Taylor. I haven't been able to get through for weeks. If I can't get through again *shrugs* I think this has been the worst AI season for voting, ever. The other years? I called once, and that was all it took. I'm too busy to try dialling for two hours! I even waited last time until almost midnight, and it didn't matter. Busy signal. I figure that if they really wanted me to vote, there would be a way. I was rooting for Elliott and Taylor. Now that Elliott's gone? Taylor.
