Douglas Adams, the unfortunately deceased writer of the Hitchhiker's Guide TV Series, the books, and the original radio shows, spent the last few years of his life in LA trying to get the movie project off the ground. So I'm all for this new movie, and really looking forward to it. And I loved the casting of Martin Freeman (Tim from the original British 'The Office' show) as Arthur Dent.The original BBC TV show was funny - how could it not be - but suffered from some cheesy special effects (Zaphod's 'animatronic' second head, for instance), and terrible acting (Zaphod's other head, for instance).

I finally went to this website and saw the trailers. The movie looks like it's not quite faithful to the book. It also looks slightly Americanized. I will probably go see the movie anyway. I hope it doesn't ruin the books for me (which I'm in the process of re-reading again for the nth time).I'm glad they cast Alan Rickman as Marvin (voice) - excellent choice. The robot, though, looks nothing like I expected based on the description in the book. Marvin is supposed to be tall. Sam Rockwell as Zaphod - totally hot! But where's his 2nd head? I wouldn't mind seeing two of him. I'm not sure about Mos Def as Ford. I guess I'll have to wait until I see the movie.

You know, I've never seen the BBC TV show, never heard the radio programs> I've only read the books, but as I read them, the voices of the characters in my head have British accents. It's SUCH British humor.

Can't wait. Taped the original from BBC (and, when it came out, bought it for a better copy) There's a book out I saw recently about filming it. Neat how they did Bbrox's two heads. Given the difference in mores between then and now I wonder how they'll deal with his "other" two. Oooh, I know!!! Forty-two!! Oh - What was the question???
