LAST EDITED ON 04-27-06 AT 09:47 AM (EST)

I believe from here on out, the contestants will be singing TWO songs each week.

This week's "theme" is:

* ONE SONG FROM THE YEAR THEY WERE BORN, and
* ONE SONG FROM THE CURRENT TOP TEN LIST

Then, if history is any clue, they should be blowing the dust off Clive Davis and let him pick the songs one week, then the "Judges Week", where they pick the songs for the singers.

Whetever it is, it will sound better now that PICKLES is gone!

HAHA!

Wasn't the "Fifth of Beetoven" instumental? I suppose Taylor could do interpretive dance.

Paris should have to do all the "instrumental parts" with her voice alone for Don't Worry Be Happy like the original

I just listened to A Fifth of Beetoven and I was laughing my @$$ off thinking of Taylor doing an interpretive dance to it. As for the other songe I am listining to Shadow Dancing for Elliott and I could see him singing it. As for the Pina Colada Song for Chris, I could see him making a rock version of it. I could also see Katharine singing Footloose. Paris could do a R&B version of Don't Worry Be Happy.

30. "The Pina Colada Sog"
Escape (The Pina Colada Song)
(Rupert Holmes)

I was tired of my lady, we'd been together too long.
Like a worn-out recording, of a favorite song.
So while she lay there sleeping, I read the paper in bed.
And in the personals column, there was this letter I read:

"If you like Pina Coladas, and getting caught in the rain.
If you're not into yoga, if you have half-a-brain.
If you like making love at midnight, in the dunes of the cape.
I'm the lady you've looked for, write to me, and escape."

I didn't think about my lady, I know that sounds kind of mean.
But me and my old lady, had fallen into the same old dull routine.
So I wrote to the paper, took out a personal ad.
And though I'm nobody's poet, I thought it wasn't half-bad.

"Yes, I like Pina Coladas, and getting caught in the rain.
I'm not much into health food, I am into champagne.
I've got to meet you by tomorrow noon, and cut through all this red tape.
At a bar called O'Malley's, where we'll plan our escape."

So I waited with high hopes, then she walked in the place.
I knew her smile in an instant, I knew the curve of her face.
It was my own lovely lady, and she said, "Oh, it's you."
And we laughed for a moment, and I said, "I never knew"..

"That you liked Pina Coladas, and getting caught in the rain.
And the feel of the ocean, and the taste of champagne.
If you like making love at midnight, in the dunes of the cape.
You're the love that I've looked for, come with me, and escape."

"If you like Pina Coladas, and getting caught in the rain.
If you're not into yoga, if you have half-a-brain.
If you like making love at midnight, in the dunes of the cape.
You're the love that I've looked for, come with me, and escape."

*dies again, this time from laughter*

Sorry, couldn't resist....

I'm sure you meant to give me a smiley, too, not just the poopy face

Seriously, this would be way funnier than Constantine singing "I Thnk I Love You".

The judges react:

Randy: Dawg, I dunno, I wasn't feelin' it, I mean, this was Rupert Holmes at his PRIME, dude. And I hated that arrangement, you just can't have a mariachi band on stage with you, that's not dope.

Paula: I LOOOOOOOVE YOU, WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! I'll think of you whenever I drink a Pina Colada - like right now - someday you'll have to tell me what you mean by making love in the rain while doing yoga in champagne. Yeah, yeah, I'll think of you whenever I drink champagne - like now - WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Simon: Look, if I'm being honest, that's a very peculiar song...

Chris: Face it, Simon, you just don't like 70's cheese. It's okay, you can admit it.

Simon: You're right. And I don't think America's going to buy that you had to take out a personal ad to get laid.

I think the second song has to be on the current Billboard chart, but not just the top 10.

That would be ridiculous, to only have 10 songs to choose from!

As always with these things, the info is so amibiguous, but I think it can be from ANY GENRE of the Top Ten Lists (ie. R+B, POP, Country, etc.)

In any event, the lists better change drastically between now and then, as most of the currently ranked songs are CARP!!!!

That's just MY take on it from what I've seen.

We'll have to wait til the song selections are leaked this weekend!

Depends on if they can choose from the Top 10 of any of the Billboard lists. For instance, Chris might be able to choose from the college or alternative list. In which case, he might choose something from the Foo Fighters. *crosses fingers and prepares to die from shock at hearing a song from one my favorite bands of all time on AI*

10. "RE: Next Week's Theme?"
I googled and brought up the first list I came to. There are some pretty cool songs from 1979.
http://www.severing.nu/music/1979.html

Bad Company - Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy
Cheap Trick - I Want You To Want Me (We do, Chris. We do.)
The Commodores – Still (I would die of swooning)
Alice Cooper - How You Gonna See Me Now
Dire Straits - Sultans Of Swing
The Doobie Brothers - What A Fool Believes
The Doobie Brothers - Minute By Minute
Dr. Hook - When You're In Love With A Beautiful Woman
The Eagles - Heartache Tonight (I can totally picture this one)
Fleetwood Mac - Tusk (I’m a huge Mac fan and this was the only one that popped up on this particular list. Not much singing but I couldn’t bring myself to omit it.)
Foreigner - Dirty White Boy (I miss Bucky.)
Foreigner - Head Games
Gloria Gaynor - I Will Survive (*giggle*)
Van Halen - Dance The Night Away
Billy Joel - Big Shot
Robert John - Sad Eyes
KC & The Sunshine Band - Please Don't Go (I like this song.)
Kiss - I Was Made For Lovin' You (I would very much love to see/hear this.)
The Knack - My Sharona
The Knack - Good Girls Don't
Robert Palmer - Bad Case Of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor) – (I can picture this one too.)
Cliff Richard - We Don't Talk Anymore (I like this song. Can't picture him doing it but I like it.)
Kenny Rogers - She Believes In Me (This would be a good choice as a nod to his wife. Well, that and because it would make me swoony.)
Kenny Rogers - You Decorated My Life
Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band - We've Got Tonight (*swoon*)

Nah, I don't want her booted and "We Belong" is soft rock. I think she would do well at it AND it would show some versatility. Kat and Chris IMO are going to have to step it up big time from here on out to outlast Taylor with his Soul Patrol and VFTW votes. I posted on the other forum that I think Taylor needs to go because this competition is killing his spark.

Siggy thanks to Syren!

Wow, that was a stroll down memory lane. I graduated high school in '84.

If she sang "Here Comes the Rain Again", do you think Simon would say she thinks she as good as Annie Lenox?

I vote for "We Belong" or "Here Comes the Rain Again".

To me, I think it's an easy call for Kat. Time After Time. She could knock that out of the park.

But you know what? Too bad they don't get to do a song from someone else's year of birth. I think there are some cool choices here for everyone.

Elliott - Against All Odds or Hello
Taylor - I Can Dream About You or Sea Of Love
Chris - Authority Song or Dancing In The Dark
Paris - What's Love Got To Do With It (I know what you're thinking, but it's not like she's going to stop singing songs that are too old for her now.)

Okay, this just doesn't help me with my naughty Chris fantasies. All I can see is the videos for these songs and it gets my juices flowing. I can see Chris doing either one, but if he does Bruce, can I be Courtney Cox? Please, please, please?

>Paris - What's Love Got To

Not to mention what she'd do to her hair.

The coolest thing about the GW concert that I remember (other than the girl I went with ) was the big black man playing the bass keyboards, standing on a riser in the back above the rest of the band. He looked huge and menacing up there, like some kinda mythological god.

This is what he truly needs to sing. He needs a standout week for sure.

For his 1976 song he needs to sing:

"Kiss And Say Goodbye" by The Manhattans.

It would be perfect for his style. It would blow you all away.

That is my prediction.

Ahh, see...it helps if a Beatles album came out that year.

I was born in '65, the year "Help" came out, so my list looks pretty good too.

Plus Righteous Bros, Sonny & Cher, the KINKS!!, Stones (Cloud & Satisfaction!) James Brown, Turtles, Yardbirds -- getting psychodelic, still holding onto Elvis. Yay!

(Oh, and Roger Miller. Love me some Roger Miller.)

On the bad side, I have "The Name Game" "I'm Henry VIII I Am" and, er, Patty Duke. Can't have everything.

Needless to say, I'd have a blast singing from my year.
