I've seen breaks for breakdowns, but it may be that once you say you quit, you can't just go completely away from the location, take a 2 hour nap and then decide, oh I'm ready to go again.A breakdown usually, at least for me, isn't a restorative as a I'm not doing this at all any more and I'll just hang out for a couple of hours and maybe take a nap. But your mileage may vary. I suspect the rules of quitting were laid out before the challenge and they didn't change it in the middle of the boat rowing. I mean I know they can for the most part do what they want, but just logistically changing the rules in the middle of a challenge would at least, I would think, require making sure all people involved know you changed the rules at the drop of a hat.
