1. "Lisa Tucker"
I actually liked her performance this week, I thoguht she had a strong voice and wasn't as boring. But the judges are ripping her through Randy, and even Paula thinks it was a bad song choice.

Bob Factoid: The fishercat is the only creature known to have gone completely insane chasing its own tail.

3. "RE: Lisa Tucker"
I feel bad for her, cause she does have a really good voice and she has had two consecutive weeks in the bottom three and now the judges not giving her any good feedback, which I kinda understand. But still, she has got to be feeling pretty awful.

4. "RE: Lisa Tucker"
I agree with the judges--the song is too big for her voice; she should have made it more her own; and imo she was flat in several places (what Simon probably meant when he said it was painful).

I also think she was first to sing for a reason. Lisa, I predict it is your week to go.

WTF was she thinking?

Girl, yo mamma should tell you when you have poor judgement.

buh bye Lisa.

(At first I thought Kelly would be mad, but then after the song was done, I thought, well, Kelly has just been proven the AMERICAN IDOL once again.)

fisher - thanks for starting the trhead, but i almost didn't find it cuz of the title.

11. "RE: The Top Ten: 21st Century Week Live Thread"
I heard something on the radio this afternoon that I had to share with everyone. They radio annoncer was talking about tonight's show and how Rolling Stone was rating the contestants. They rated the top three to be Katherine, Chris, and Kellie. The pro for Katherine was her obvious good voice and her control over her voice, also that she is sexy. The con for Katherine is her her way of moving like she is on Broadway. For Chris, the pro was his singing, that he sounds like a professional singer and is a good performer. The con for Chris was his lack of personality during interviewing. As for little Kellie, the pro was her inspiring background, the mother that abandoned her when she was three and her father in jail. Also that Simon likes her. The con for Kellie is that she has a weaker singing voice, to which the radio annoncer says, "But its just a singing competition!" I was laughing so hard I was crying.

I thought it was an interesting take. I am not sure I believe but it is interesting to think about.

Simon slipped in a "Clay Aiken" comparison when commenting on Taylor's performance.

No matter if you agree with his comment or not, note the positioning of Taylor as a close no. 2 ala Clay and Ruben...he is planting a seed in America's collective mind.

I completely agree with Simon. Chris went way too far. That was just painful to me. Not to mention, there was about a four note range in the song, and about as many words. I felt completely alienated; AND it came across that all Chris really knows how to do is yell repetitively. I realize he can do more than that - but you'd never know by just hearing him tonight.

maybe I was three weeks early.....I've been warning this one-note pony since before the Final 12 sang a note, but he refuses to stop sounding like a bad Creed knock-off.

He's got the talent and personality to do so much better--he just refuses to trust himself to be his own singer.

This performance was just the logical extension of every knock-off performance leading up to it.....he has taken it too far, and is committing the ultimate sin: he's starting to bore me.

I absolutely adore the username.

Agreed completely otherwise, I think he needs to switch it up just for one week. He CAN do other songs, I remember his "Emotions" by Destiny Child during group week, he did very very well for himself. Now he's just done a rock song for six (?) straight weeks.

I loved Bo because he could switch it up. He could do a hard rock song, but then come back with a ballad or pop song and sing it like a pop star, and well at that.

What should Chris do? The same tired and worn out crap that is on American Idol every season. I wasn't going to watch the show this year until I saw Chris sing. How much Mariah Carey crap can one want to hear before puking? Chris should totally ignore Simon's advise. Chris should sing the style of music he likes. Simon is right about one thing. Creed would not be on the show, but what does that have to do with Chris singing a Creed song? He sang Live last week and the Chili Peppers the week before. Would those bands have been on the show?

Okay. This was by far my least favorite performance of his. The main reason for that is my dislike of Creed. But when Simon said, "Creed would not be caught dead on this show", who is he trying to kid? Come.on. Scott Stapp? Ha! *snort* pffft. He would prostitute himself to get on the show. Would Live be caught dead on the show? umm. No. Red Hot Chili Peppers. umm. No. Seether? ummm. No. So what happened? Why are they not pimping him this week? Are they mad at him for not wanting to take credit for Live's work?

I think its because Chris went so "heavy" this week. That's not what they want to pimp. They want to pimp the normal rock that everyone listens to on any top 40 station. They weren't at all happy about his song choice because they know that the heaviness of that song will turn a lot of people off, IMO. I happen to love the heavy stuff but I'm in the minority of America on that one I believe.

So what you're telling me is that it's okay to pimp Katharine - to try to make sure that she outlasts Mandisa who they feel is too, ummm... Help me out. Which reason am I looking for here? "fat"? "preachy"? "unmoldable"? yeah, that's the one - by telling her that the nice thing is that they know what kind of record she'll make? huh. WTF? Her answer to that is "whatever kind of record you'll tell me to make". When in reality, the answer is "a screechy hearditallbeforeamilliontimesbyamilliondifferenthotchicks album that I (and so many other people even though you say now that you like her and you would buy her album) will never buy." But it is not okay for Chris to show us what kind of album he'd like to make? www.thechriscrew.com The song they have up there now is hard and heavy. And he sounds amazing. Because he's amazing. Don't we want to see what these people would like to record? I'd buy his album tomorrow. Hell, I'll buy it today (and so many more people would if it wasn't for the "American Idol contestant" tag that he'll be stuck with forever now).

Yep, this is the reason we all (by we I mean true Chris fans) would rather he "not" win this year because if he does he will have absolutely no say on what he will record. I say bring on the heavy stuff cause me likey. As for the other contestants. *shrugs* Simon already knows who he wants and what kind of music he is already envisioning them recording AND he gives out the hints every show.

I don't agree with Simon but that's how I think his mind is working.

Hey, I like heavy stuff, too....I could listen to Kurt Cobain or Frank Black scream all day long. I just don't think Chris is very good at it. Just like a lot of the lame, derivative bands he tries to emulate. You can't do honest hardIMeanHARD rock by the numbers. You have to be a raw and talented genius to really pull it off in a way that appeals beyond a teenage audience, who just want to listen to pissed-off music for pissed-off music's sake.

Not enough control or raw emotion to Chris's performances for my taste--rings hollow somehow.

I think it may depend on what the person has been showing us so far.

There is showing what kind of music you would record without it coming off as you are doing the performance and song choice just for you, personally, without regard for this being a competition or the audience in general.

If that makes any sense???

I think with Chris he meant that the song was too "hard", which Chris even said that it was the hardest rock song he has sang so far. It's not as much of a mainstream song as something by Christina. Creed has had mainstream hits but not tons like some other artists. I am a huge Chris fan but I did notice that his eyes were doing something freaky at times during the song.

I guess that in my mind, Simon is looking for something marketable to huge audiences. You can ask almost anyone on the street and they know Christina Augliera (spelling??) and can probablly name several of her songs. Creed, although I am a huge fan of and know, is not as widely know to the general public. Ask people on the street and you will probablly find that less people know them and if they do know them, they can only name like one song by them. Christina type music is more marketable.

I think that is more of what he meant (what cj said). The judges said that tonight is the night where you perform something compared to the contemporary artists to show what you would do. I think Simon thought that this wasn't mainstream enough for Idol, delving too far into a hard rock scene. Kind of like how they typically destroy anybody who tries to rap in the auditions. He went too hard to be mainstream is my guess.

Although I still think Chris is getting stale, I don't think that's what Simon meant originally, although implied I'd tend to agree.

I know many like Paris and I can appreciate that she has a good voice but her voice does nothing, absolutely nothing for me. Is she supposed to be this season's Fantasia?

I agree. Blech. Paris - "Princess P" is still a young girl! Call me old-fashioned, but to hear a young girl sing a song that includes the lyrics "We can't wait for the bedroom so we just hit the floor" seems wrong on SO many levels.

ComPLETEly underwhelmed.

And the hair-swinging was annoying, too. I realize it was new - but it was distracting.

Will sleep on these, and update in towmorrow's thread.

Thoughts following a disappointing show:

1) Taylor - because I love the guy, and he sang the song I wanted him to sing.
2) Elliot - He surprised me. I loved his rendition.
3) Mandisa - She can sing me the phone book. She's true to herself.
4) Katherine - not her best, but far better than most tonight
5) Bucky - I thought he did very well.
6) Chris - yes, he's below Bucky. Not his best by far.
7) Paris - a 17 year old should NOT be singing about 'working it out' in the bedroom with her boyfriend
8) Ace - dreadful vocals
9) Kellie - worse than Ace's
10) Lisa - i think she's given up. Bubye.

I think we should be nice. These AI singers (probably with the exception of Ace) sing just as well (as) if not better than the current Holywood singers.
Have you heard Tim Mcgraw and Faith Hill sing??? Even Christina Aguilera has bad days. Remember the Grammys where she sang a ray Charles song? You could hardly recognize it.
Here is my ranking:

1. Elliot - great vocals all the way. don't think he will win as he doesn't have enough charisma.

2. Paris - what was with Simon's comment? Doesn't get. Paris sang the song better than Beyonce. She may not be as pretty as beyonce but her voce is clearly superior.

3. Lisa- what the hell were the judges talking about? i thought she was good. she was one of the few contestants tonight who sang the melody well enough for me to recognize the song. i definitely don't think it was as bad as the judges thought.

4. Katharine- i like her because she is the total package -pretty,sexy,talented. Nobody can beat her.
But i think she was the most overrated tonight. i could hardly recognize the song. She was out of tune especially in the beginning and she shouted the rest of the song.

5. Ace- Again not the best vocals. But at least I enjoyed the song. And he is really really hot. And very gracious, too. he took the judges comments with a big beautiful smile.
Has there been any more beautiful guy in the history of American Idol?

6. Taylor- out of tune for most of the song but still better than the remainder.

7. Chris - the SEXIEST among the twelve contestants and one of the four best vocals ( Kath, Elliot,Paris). But he has to choose a 'different' song. He sounds like he is singing the same song over and over again.

8. Bucky - no comment

9. Kelly- pretty and sexy. but the vocals were bad. and the accent and the attitude is getting into my God-thickened nerve.
she should go.

Dear AI Producers,

This whole thing with the 21st century songs...not cool. They suck. Please do not do them ever again.

Thank you,

America

*******

Rankings of tonight's train wreck:

1. Elliot - definitely the best of the night. He was the ONLY one in tune tonight. I love Gavin Degraw and I loved this very original arrangement. Kudos to Elliot for making the show worth watching!

2. Bucky - Yeah, he was good tonight! I normally don't like country music, but for some reason I really like Bucky and his little country self.

3. Paris - vocals were pretty nice but the song choice was awful. Paris needs someone to help her choose her songs because that was just wrong. Last week I didn't mind because Fever is a classic.

4. Taylor - Definitely boring and definitely not his best.

5. Katharine - Meh. Nothing special and no way did she sound like Christina. She was behind and ahead of the music constantly (suffering the Lisa syndrome) and she was out of tune an awful lot. Not very impressive and I'd never guess how talented she is if that was the first time I'd heard her sing.

6. Chris - Didn't like it and he was all over the place (out of tune). Too loud and noisy. He NEEDS to slow it down and tone it down. He was awesome in his initial audition when he wasn't so dang angry/noisy when he sings.

7. Mandisa - probably the worst I've heard her in terms of vocals. She screamed a heck of a lot of the end and screamed it way out of tune. That's never good. I am probably one of the few people familiar with the song...it sounds much better more subdued (as Mary Mary sings it) and less...well...loud and screechy.

8. Ace - Surprise, surprise. He wasn't as terrible as he's been in weeks past. I still loathe the guy, but at least I didn't want to puncture my ear drums rather than listen to him sing.

9. Lisa - Ick. The girl just has no musicality whatsoever. She has a good voice but has NO CLUE how to use it properly. She doesn't understand music - she's always out of tune, behind or ahead of the music and just doesn't seem to be into it at all.

10. Kellie - Yuck. Puke. She so needs to go home with her fake little self. I think I dislike her even more than Ace. And that's saying something.

I'm not new to this board, but I just never post. I've been looking at this board since AI 2. I have a problem with this board. I feel as though the people on this board JUST DON'T LIKE Paris Bennett. She has a very good singing voice. Just as you rank Kellie Pickler high because you think she's cute, you find a reason to rank Paris low because you don't like her. i admit, her voice annoys me too, but I love her singing voice. This IS a competition about singing. The whole " A 17 year old is too young to be singing a song like that"....get real! That's merely an excuse to bash her. Paris is a performer. The singer Jo-Jo was singing about her boyfriend at the age of 13 or 14. So what!! I think that's an excuse to say something. With that off my chest, here are my rankings on a really bad night.

1. Elliot - Love his voice
2. Paris - good performer and singer....it's just a song people
3. Taylor - song great for his voice and style
4. Katherine - not her best night, but I really like her voice...hated the outfit!
5. Chris - Tired of his rock songs. Needs to show more versatility
6. Mandisa - Love her too, but she SCREAMED this one. Vocals were all over the place
7. Bucky - really can't sing to me, but good choice for him. Doesn't need to be in this competition
8. Kellie - voice is just aight. Tired of the country girl thing. I'm from a small town too. My grandfather used to live on a farm. I don't act like that. It's all an act that's getting old. Her voice isn't up to par.
9. Ace - PLEASE leave!!! Only a pretty face. Can't sing too hot
10. Lisa - can sing, but something's very robotic about her voice. She makes horrible song choices. I think this was her last chance

great choices, yellachick.....(but I think your Elliot glasses are a little rose-colored). And I can't believe I'm about to start defending Paris (since I had her picked to leave at 11th in my PTTE), but you are 100% right in everything you said about her. It is just a "scampy" little performance--ease up on the throttle a little there, people. If you get that worked up about a 17-yr old flirting with their burgeoning sensual side, you might need to stop and think about why you've got such a hang-up about the issue. _That_ seems a little creepy to me.

And more importantly, she was one of the few who gave a decent all-around performance tonight--vocally, and in terms of energy. And this from someone who thought she was headed for the dust-bin when the Final 12 began.

On an ugly night:

1. Paris (worked it out...oh, sorry--didn't mean to offend!)
2 Katherine McPhever (probably the most difficult song attempted on AI so far)
3 Taylor Hicks (great, but a little uninspired)
4 Bucky Covington (a good singer, needs polish still)

and six half-assed performances.....

5 Mandisa (that's what I'm screamin'!)
6 Eliot Yamin (inconsistent, doesn;t blow me away)
7 Chris Daughtry (it's all just one long song from this guy)
8 Kellie Pickler (GAWD! I just can't SAAng!)
9 Ace Young (nice scar. his man plays rough.)
10 Lisa Tucker (out of her league. past her bedtime.)

Yellachick -

I believe since the auditions, i've commented over and over that Paris _can_ sing. But the girl is 17.years.old.

Last week she sang a song about having 'a fever' for a guy's lovin.

Last night she sang about not being able to wait for the bedroom so lets 'work it out' right on the floor.

It is just wrong. Paris embodies what i feel is wrong with 'pop music' today. Current young artists are marketed as older, and sing songs that are overtly sexual. For some reason, this is acceptable by many parents. Not this one.

I agree, Paris can sing. I don't believe that she's demonstrating the ability to be the 'American Idol'.

It is a singing competition, but its also about the message the individual singers make to their audience. That is why the judges keep harping "Song choice. Song choice. Song choice." She made a horrible song choice. Simon was right again, it was way too 'precocious' and he was being too nice.

Right in line with you geekboy... I mentioned this last week too. I dont want a 17-year-old telling me she wants to do it on the floor.

Ok, maybe when I was 17 I wanted to hear that, but thats different... This is a signing competition, the other is a teenage fantasy (and with my teenage years, it was ONLY a fantasy )

I have never complained about her voice - I think its absoluting amazing how that voice comes out of her. I just dont need to hear how she needs to get her groove on at 17.

I too have a problem with Paris -- NOT her voice, and in addition to the slut-songs.

When she sings these songs that are WAY too mature, she looks like she's playing dress up. Or playing the vamp in a high school musical. It does not come off as natural or real.

Hence "precocious."

I would add insincere, contrived and phony.

Yes, she can really sing. She's not a very good performer.

I am a Chris fan, but I am a little fearful for him tonight. His performance/song choice were way too angry --- while he was singing, I said to my hubby, "he's gone too far tonight. His performance is scary." (keep in mind, we were both big metalheads in the 80s, so we love a good rocker). He agreed.

Simon's comments were right on target. It reminded me of last year when Constantine sung an "angry" song and he was kicking his foot at the camera and putting his face right in it...........and he was the surprise boot THAT week.

Chris may need some extra votes tonight from his loyal fans.

On other notes, I thought Paris was great and I enjoyed Mandissa and Elliott and Taylor, but everybody else was a bore.

Goodbye, little Lisa.

As a watcher since season 1, I am thankful to have this board because I often do or do not watch the show based on what is said here..If the show sucks why waste my time?

I can also say that I have not voted this season because I have not seen a performance that will make me remember a phone number to call.

I am in Ca and have watched the first 3 singers( Kellie, Lisa and Ace) and you all are right-- THEY SUCK!!!!!!!!!!! I dont think I need a new tv, I think these kids need help with song choice..

Amazing how bad they sound by the time they get to L.A!! they sounded great acapella in an audition but come to LA and to me, doesnt it seem like they have gotten worse as the weeks have gone on??

maybe these people have forgotten its a SINGING COMPETITION so they need to pick GOOD SONGS???

If I remember I will flip bk to see Mandisa, Taylor and Elliott

so I will watch 24 that I taped last nite instead...thanks for the warning folks!! Much appreciated.

I rarely post, but I was disappointed in almost everyone's performance. Since I know that they are all better than this I'm thinking either the arrangements or band (or both) contributed to this sorry episode.

I thought Lisa did much better last night than the comments she got from the judges but I think she is gone. She's only 16 so with some training she could still have a career if she wants it.

I loved Taylor not gyrating and doing his odd movements and actually singing for a change. However that said, I love his manic performances and hope he makes it.

I also love Mandisa but good grief, she was horrible last night, and I really REALLY wish she would lose some weight and not wear tight jeans. (And please don't shoot her from the rear or side again when/if she wears them again.) She can sing anything but last night... not good. Not good at all. Mandisa will have a career no matter what happens with AI.

Chris was horrible, Katherine was not at her best. Two weeks ago she showed that she has star power and actually could win AI but not with her performance last night.

I almost miss Kevin. (I must be losing it...)

Evelyn
