Are there any rules that a contestant cannot sing a song they wrote themselves?I am thinking that this week could be a showcase for Taylor. I have a CD he released last year....so the songs on it would qualify as 'Songs Of The 21st Century'. I'd love to see him do a couple of the songs off that CD. Is this permitted? geekboy

I don't know if it would be allowed, but I think it would be cool. Why not? If it's great then they can take all the glory, and if it stinks, there is nobody to blame but themselves.
Could be risky, but if someone is talented enough to write their own song, they should let them perform it.
Geek, I'm not a huge Taylor fan and I didn't know he had a CD. How is it, and what style of music?

You know that would be so cool, if they have their own stuff. Nashville Star I think requires it, not 100% sure but I know they allow it. Would just show how much more they had to offer.
