"A Question?"
Does anyone know exactly HOW Josh is getting this much time off from the Marines? Is he one special leave? Getting paid still? With MY tax dollars? For stinking up my television every Tuesday night?

I remember hearing some contestants say they had quit their jobs or been fired to come and compete. Please don't tell me Josh is still on the country's payroll. Tell me instead that he's facing a court marshall (sp?)and will be sent in Leavenworth as soon as the competition is over. Come on, lie....make me happy.

1. "RE: A Question?"
You are seeing your tax dollars at work. Here's a post from a thread that dropped to page three. Don't know if there is any update.

4. "Update"
from NYPOST.com
March 27, 2003 -- 'AMERICAN Idol" favorite, Lance Corp. Josh Gracin, is on 24-hour notice to be called up for active duty in the Iraq war.
"Joshua has been very up front with us from the very beginning that he might have to leave us," Ken Warwick, a co-executive producer on "American Idol," told The Los Angeles Times.
"He's in contact with his commander, and he might have to go. He's got a lot to lose."
Gracin, 21, is among the nine finalists left on the popular reality-talent show.
But he is also a U.S. Marine with the 1st Force Service Support Group. He is on leave from his unit is based at Camp Pendleton, near San Diego.
Fox and the producers of "Idol" have already told Gracin if an order to deploy forces him to leave the show, he can return next season as one the show's top 10 finalists.
"That was a weight off his shoulders," a source close to Gracin told The Post yesterday.
But the loss of a contestant to military duty would add a new and melodramatic element to the hit talent show - which is already the biggest new series of the year.
The Marine is married, has a young daughter and is currently living with the other finalists in a luxurious secluded location and could not be reached for comment.
"Within each unit is a section that might not be called up, and Joshua belongs to one of those sections," said Staff Sgt. Chad McMeen, a member of the Marine Corps television and film liaison office in Los Angeles who has been assigned to keep Gracin in top shape in the event the Lance Corporal has to ship out.
The pair usually exercise three or four times a week together.
"We're making sure he maintains the Marine Corps standards," said McMeen.
"As you've seen on the show he maintains his haircut, his weight and obviously physical fitness is a large part of being a Marine," he said.
McMeen said Gracin also works out regularly on the Nautilus equipment, treadmill and stationary bike in the "American Idol" house and does stomach crunches and push-ups with McMeen.
"We're doing standard Marine stuff," McMeen said. "The thing that's hard to find is a pull-up bar, so we're working on that."
Early yesterday morning Gracin and McMeen ran about three miles, "but it was on a 20 percent grade," said McMeen to point out that the work out was rigorous.

What I find interesting about this article is that according to google search "Josh Gracin unit", a reply to this story has been posted on joshgracin.com, but is not on the site itself. Could FUX have pulled the plug on this reply? If so, then what's up?

2. "Thanks, AZ_Leo......"
So do you suppose the Marines would discharge him should he win this thing? Or will he get a million dollar contract AND stay on the government payroll with his own personal trainer???? Must say, I find the stuff in that article about maintaining his "Marine Physique" laughable. He's a tubby ton of lard. Hungry hungry hippo, indeed.

4. "RE: A Question?"
You know it's bad when the other media has been mentioning that Josh has been gaining weight. The funny part is that last season all the contestants claimed they a ton of weight because Fox had them on the go all the time.

I would guess that he is on Special Leave and he may be receiving Paid Time Off, but I have no idea. I actually don't have too much of a problem with that if he is. The Marines would argue that he's doing them a service by promoting them and if some little kid out there is inspired by Josh and joins the Marines one day, is that really a bad thing? (Unless of course he sings like Josh)

5. "RE: A Question?"
It doesn't say that he is getting paid does it? The way I understand military pay is that you don't get paid if you aren't there. I have a friend who works a regular active duty job and he doesn't get paid if he takes time away from the job. He still must maintain his physique, etc because he is still a member of the military even if he isn't "at work."

You get a paycheck every day you're in the Army, from the first one to the last. You NEVER DON'T get paid, unless you are AWOL.

Your friend can't be active duty. Maybe National Guard or Reserves?
