"American Idol Critique List, v.2.8"
Neil Sedaka night....so it's time to rank these contestants from their 1960's songs and then also the Sedaka songs..I really loved tonight's format, because there is less down time and we get to hear as much as possible from the contestants...I'm just going to rank them on both songs and then average that out for the final rankings of the week, and I'll keep these short & sweet.

The 1960's Songs
1. Clay - I suddenly wanna watch "There's Something About Mary"....one of my favorite songs, this is one of Clay's best genres...I loved the style, a little too much enunciation in the song, but overall was the best...he made the song his own.
2. Ruben - The song just sounded right on him...a few screw ups in the humming, but it just sounded right...I agree with Simon.
3. Kimberley - I guess it was just me, but I liked the performance...the singing wasn't as good, but the whole package was good.
4. Trenyce - Vocally, she was great. But maybe it was the outfit, hair, and Simon's drag comment that prevents me from ranking her any higher.
5. Joshua - I was actually impressed, but what is impressing with Josh is still not impressing enough to rank him higher.

Neil Sedaka Songs
1. Ruben Studdard - Not bad, not bad at all...in fact, I loved it...may have been the best performance of the night...Ruben killed a lot of cows for tonight's show.
2. Clay - Interesting performance, I really liked it....somehow Ruben ranks higher on that performance, though.
3. Kim Locke - Upping her game each week.
4. Trenyce - Deserves to stay another week.
5. Josh - Dreadful.

Overall For The Night
1. Clay
2. Ruben
3. Kim
4. Trenyce
5. Joshua

Cumulative This Season
1. Ruben
2. Clay
3. Kim
5. Josh & Trenyce (Tie)

This week's bottom group: Josh, Trenyce, Kim (If needed)
This week's big loser: HOPEFULLY Josh

1. "RE: American Idol Critique List, v.2.8"
i ranked each of the 10 songs, and averaged each person's two to end up with the total rank (list of how I ranked the songs at the end)

1. Clay (2.5) - wow, just wow. absolutely great performances

2. Trenyce (5) - two very solid performances should save her if there was any doubt. i was waiting for the fast part on rollin', but it wasn't quite as good as i expected. still, overall, she did raise her performance tonight

3. Kim (5.5) - man, i thought she was toast after that first song, but her second one BLEW ME AWAY. beat out both of Clay's (though not by a whole lot, considering how great clay was, its still saying something). hopefully she too saved herself!

4. Ruben (6) - two good performances. some pitch problems in the first, but overall a pair of pleasurable performances.

5. Josh (8.5) - actually, he was better than usual tonight, but that's just not good enough. his first song he sounded good, pretty much on key, but rather uninspired. his second was more inspired, but had more pitch problems, and a song that forces him to hold out notes on the vowels of "bad blood" wasn't a good choice

Song Rankings:
1. Kim #2 - powerful, beautiful, and practically flawless
2. Clay #1 - changed it up a bit and delivered
3. Clay #2 - same old Clay, same great performance
4. Trenyce #2
5. Ruben #2
6. Trenyce #1
7. Ruben #1
8. Josh #1
9. Josh #2
10. Kim #1 - so glad you got a second opportunity, cause this one just didn't do it for me.

basically 1-3 are clearly tops, the Trenyce and Ruben show couldn't quite match up but was very good (T slightly better than R), and Josh and Kim#1 were rather mediocre

gone: Josh
also in the bottom 2: could really be any of be Kim, Trenyce, or Ruben. My guess would be Kim simply because she did have one song that wasn't all that great, while both of the others were solid in both

2. "RE: American Idol Critique List, v.2.8"
I thought this was one of the better weeks with the Neil Sedaka half being much better.

1960s

1. Trenyce--Throw it down, girlfriend. She tore up Proud Mary.

2. Clay--I'm surprised to actually be ranking him this high, but I really liked him during this number. Nice change of pace.

3. Ruben--Ho hum. If anyone is missing a couch, Ruben is wearing it.

4. Kim--Big disappointment, but not as bad as

5. Josh--Why is he still here?

Neil Sedaka (the worst celebrity judge ever)

1. Kim--I knew it was either make or break when the song was announced and she did amazing with it. She needs to stay away from Motown.

2. Ruben--Wow! Very understated. One of the best performances of the series.

3. Trenyce--It was definately her week.

4. Clay--Any other week and this rendition would have been higher, but the bar has been raised and he was simply outshined by the rest.

5. Josh--Bad Blood from a Bad Singer. Thanks for playing and be sure to collect your copy of American Idol, the home game on your way out.

Overall for night.

1. Trenyce
2. Kim
3. Ruben
4. Clay
5. Josh

3. "RE: American Idol Critique List, v.2.8"
Round 1. The 60s!

1. Clay 1. Yeah baby! 100% uptempo, and it worked like a charm. I even saw a little wiggle in there for Paula. I don't care where he ends up, AI, Broadway, whatever. I'd spend money on it. Guess what I'll be doing during the 24 commercial breaks? I don't think winning the competition should necessarily require versatility, but if all other things are equal (and they're at least that), I'll take the one who can change it up a little.

2. Trenyce 1. Proud Mary. We started bouncing up and down on the couch when they announced the song choice. I have nothing at all to criticize in Trenyce's performance--and she can even do Tina-legs. Her best performance in weeks. I would like to have a little talk with the producer who thought it was a good idea to mix in the bass backup though. It was disruptive enough that I was actually expecting to see some other guy on stage there for a second.

3. Ruben 1. Ain't Too Proud To Beg. Nice song choice. First up, and there are a few pitch bobbles, but I'm guessing it'll be nuffin' compared to later performances. Charisma is definitely on after a few bobbly performances. Ruben does what he does very well, but still isn't showing the versatility that's been demanded from the other contestants. He's pretty gosh darn good in his wheelhouse though.

4. Kim 1. Heard It Through the Grapevine. Randy was right. It was good--that's about it. I am impressed by how much more comfortable she's looked onstage for the past few weeks, and she still performed well tonight, but the low end of Kim's range is the part I like the least, and so many of her songs start off weak to me because of it.

5. Josh 1. Casino?? (missed the announcement). Well, it sure was better than last week. A lil' bit off pitch on some of the sustained notes though, and it just didn't seem to have the edge of the two performances before it (Ruben and Trenyce).

Round 2. Neil Sedaka songs.

1. Ruben. 2. Breaking Up Is Hard to Do. Very nice, very smooth. No pitch wobbles like in the first, though he seemed to run out of breath at one spot in the middle. It just annoys me to hear judges declaring that the contest is over. It was the performance of someone who is capable of winning the competition, but it ain't over yet, Randy. Missteps by the judges are not Ruben's fault though, and this was a really good performance.

2. Clay 2. Solitaire. I wasn't familiar with this song, but I like it. I loved how well he carried the emotion here. About the only time I'm going to say yeah, Paula was right. In the battle of the Neil Sedaka ballads, I'm going to give it to Ruben by a hair because I wasn't quite sold on that last note. But I wuv Clay.

3. Trenyce 2. Love Will Keep Us Together. Okay, I really wasn't expecting the old Trenyce to show up again tonight! I like it though. She's doing exactly what she needed to do to stay around another week, and I'll be PO'd if she ends up at the bottom.

4. Kim 2. Where the Boys Are. I preferred this to her first outing tonight, even though there was a little flat note somewhere in the middle and an odd breath in there too. She just sounded so fabulous on the rest of it though, and avoided that troublesome lower range.

5. Josh 2. Bad Blood. Or Baaa Bluh. I'm not sure which. Josh, I'd like to introduce you to the letter D. Better than last week, and better than his first outing. But this is top 5, and this wasn't close to better than what the others have been putting up.

My standings--
1. Clay
2. Ruben
3. Trenyce
4. Kim
5. Josh

My bottom 2--Kim and Josh.
I think the audience will leave--Trenyce and Josh.
Bye Bye Josh.

Replying to myself--did Trenyce do Tina Turner's Proud Mary or CCR's? I think Tina Turner was from 1970--and there's no bass backup in CCR!

I thought the same thing about Josh's performance. A country singer by the name of Neil McCoy did that song about 7 or 8 years ago. So he didn't come up with the the country spin that he put on it all by himself, and I'm glad none of the judges praised him for being "original".

4. "RE: American Idol Critique List, v.2.8"
Wow! Tonight was how this show should be - great performances from 4 outta 5. It was a joy to watch.

1960s
1.Ruben - I love that song. I love it when the Stones sing it. I love it when the Temptations sing it. I loved Ruben's version too. He looked like a bowling ball, but why quibble.

2. Trenyce - so campy - but that plays to her strengths. I was really pulling for her tonight - she's got a great smile and she can certainly deliver when she has to. She is a diva - and that's a good thing.

3. Clay - not that it was bad. It's just such a goofy throw away song, but he did a great job on it. He looked like he belonged up there.

4. Kim - a slight misstep. She seemed to lose her place at times and she needs some more support for the heaving mammaries. As mediocre as this was it was still a world above what Josh can do.

5. Josh - speak of the no-talent hack. I'm not gonna beat up on him anymore. It's just kind of sad. He doesn't belong there. It's as simple as that

Sedaka Songs
1. Kim - wow. just flawless.

2. Trenyce - what a solid cute entertaining performance

3. Clay - the mood lighting was a little much, but it was hard to not get caught up in the performance.

4. Ruben - not really a dig on him, the others were just at their best tonight.

5. Josh - if he stays in the competition after tonight, it will be a huge disappointment. I hope this is the last time I have to say this but Josh suuuuuuuuuuucks

overall
1.Trenyce - consistent through both. Showed she is definitely in this to win. She should be proud of herself

2. Kim - on the strength of her second performance - one of the best of this or last years' competitions.

3. Ruben - smooth as it gets. Not an outstanding week for Ruben, but his voice is awesome

4. Clay - he is proving he is versatile. He's an engaging, mature performer with longevity

5. Josh - go away. far far far away..

6. "RE: American Idol Critique List, v.2.8"
Weeks and weeks go by and not until tonight did I finally get why other's have been raving about Ruben...although he sounded out of breath during the first song and was grinning during the second (break-up) song, he certainly does have an impressive voice. Althought I have to agree with Neil Sedaka's "radio-friendly" opinion...even he meant it nicer than I do.

Trenyce looked and sounded better than I've seen yet. She ripped Proud Mary a new one, but was sounding a bit forced on the second song.

Josh - dreary, dreary, dreary - yawn

Kimberley - I'm probably the only one who really loved her version of Grapevine. It sounded freash and bluesy at the same time. And with Where the Boys Are, she made a song that I always though quite blah into something tremendous.

Clay was spot on with Buttercup, a very tricky song to pull off. But he put his heart on the line for the last song and WOW!

Next American Idol - Clay
goodbye to Josh

Paula had it right. Trenyce was sounding like herself, not
a weak imitation of someone else.

I thought the Grapevine choice in the style of Gladys Knight was
tremendous, but obviously, we're in the minority. "Where The Boys Are" was so wonderful. She did mix the sultry with the sweet and came up with dynamite. I voted for Kim more than once
last night.

1 Clay, was very good, enjoyable, and the best.

2 Treynce tonight was 2nd. While 5 overall, tonight she was 2.

3 tied--Kim L and Josh. tonight Kim did okay, mix it with her other performances and 2 over all but tied for 3 tonight.

Josh is the other one tonight. Good night for him. over all 4th and 3rd tonight.

5 Ruben, I don't know what the judges are the rest of you are on but he was off key, he warbled, he looked horrible, if he is not in his 8 notes ranges he flat out sucks. Overall maybe 3 but if he stays the same should go before the rest. Won't happen but please don't let him be in the final 2.

8. "RE: American Idol Critique List, v.2.8"
Pretty good week. Here we go:

First Round:
1. Clay. Best performance since the semis. Loved it.
2. Trenyce. I have seen Tina Turner sing "Proud Mary" live, and never thought anyone could do it more justice than her. Trenyce did it tonight. She was FABULOUS !!!!!
3. Ruben. Same performance as ever. Outfit was almost as bad as his jerseys. He does have a gorgeous voice though.
4. Kim Locke. She lost her momentum here. Not up to par, with the last three weeks. Not bad though. It was good, just not enough.
5. Joshua. His voice sounded good, but his rendition was a tad slow and dull.

Second Round:
1.Trenyce. What a night she had. She was sensational.
2. Kim L. She was VERY good in this second round. She got back her groove.
3. Clay. He was sweet. Liked it.
4. Joshua. MUCH better, not enough though.
5. Ruben. He is sooooooo DULL, he always sounds the same, ALWAYS. Even when he tries something different, he sounds the same. And with this performance he did NOT try anything different. YAWN !!!!! Even peeps with great voices can be boring. He's boring.

Overall:
1. Trenyce. Narrowly beats Clay. She was terrific. I thought she might be going tonight if she did not give it her all. SHE DID !!!!!
2. Clay. Almost caught Trenyce. But she was in another league tonight.
3. Kim L. Uneven night, but she did it.
4. Joshua. He had his best night in ages. Good for him.
5. Ruben. I have had enough of him, He does not even try to mix it up. YAWN !!!!

Public's bottom three:
*Joshua, Kim Locke and Trenyce (Trenyce going back to her seat first).

OUT: Joshua (I think he has reached the end of the line).

9. "RE: American Idol Critique List, v.2.8"
Well, you wonderful folks, I've been reading your hilarious and insightful posts since the Final 12, and just didn't feel I had anything better to add. So first, a big "thank you" for the entertainment so far! The only reason I keep watching AI is because I love love love reading your critiques. All that, and a Gay Idol Journal too!

But I must finally jump in, as I knew I would eventually. For this, I do pray and heartily believe, will be my final chance to bash one Hippo-Boy, yes the Metamucil Marine himself, King of the Facial Contortions, the Twang Master, Surlier-than-Thou, yes I am talking about Mr. Josh Gracin, who if there is truly justice on this Earth will have his pudgy behind booted off the stage tomorrow night. You know, at some parties it is favorable to have someone around to lower the bar - everyone else then has so much more fun, relaxed in the certainty that someone else is always going to be a bigger doofus. Here, though, tonight, when the other four stepped up their games and showed that they deserve to be here - well, Josh, let me present a metaphor/analogy/whatever:

Say the five remaining contestants are the fingers on a hand. You think you are the index finger - showing the way, decisive, in charge. I saw you pointing that finger like a kid's fake gun during your first song (barf). Thought you were hot stuff, you did. Then after Simon's critique, you took on the middle finger persona - and not for the last time tonight. You continued your childishness with a backhanded "drag queen" slap - I guess that's the pinky finger. I'll carry over your "sang that song to my future wife" from a few weeks ago to satisfy the ring finger portion of this (admittedly weak) analogy.

But - and you know what's coming here - you are none of these fingers. No, you are nothing but a big, fat, bloated, discolored, undeserving, poorly dressed, off-key, Garth Brooks wannabe, whining, spastic faced SORE THUMB!!!!!!

ONE OF THESE THINGS IS NOT LIKE THE OTHERS! Exit stage right, or left, or wherever - JUST GO!!!!!!

Whew. Better now.

Rankings:

1. Clay: He can sing, better than any of the others. He stepped it up tonight. And what the heck was that with the special introduction, lighting, and entrance for his last song? Randy may be trying to annoint Ruben the winner now, but someone out there is setting things up special for Clay.

2. Trenyce: I did like her performances tonight. She has pipes. She was a bit much with her Tina impersonation on the first song, but her voice gives her some rights. I liked her much better than I have recently.

3. Kim: She hits so many notes sooooo beautifully, but it bugs the hell out of me that she usually starts off so off-key, and has one or two spots in the middle that aren't quite there. I find myself worrying if she'll nail it or shred it. When she nails it, it's awesome.

4. Ruben: I just don't get it. He's alright, he's got a beautiful tone sometimes, yes it's velvety. But overall, it's always same ol same ol - he's coasting on his limited range. I rank him low in part because the worship of him irritates me.

Let's see, that's it, right? No one else? Guess not.

Love ya,
dangerkitty

Time to shift into "pretend that I know what I'm talking about" mode again!

60's:
1. Trenyce - See? Speed it up and she knocks 'em dead.
2. Clay - Over ann-un-ci-a-ted, but not bad.
3. Ruben - His transition from low to high notes sounded just plain terrible.
4. Kim - Things that make you go hmmmm....
5. Josh - Screw off my television screen.

Neil Sedaka:
1. Kim - Lovely
2. Trenyce - Broke away from Witney again, and brought a smile to my face.
3. Ruben - I liked.
4. Clay - If Kim Caldwell knew that they were allowed to sing songs about "playing solitare", she would have blown us all away with a rockin' rendition of the Divinyls' "I Touch Myself".
5. Josh. You see, I could have liked that, but he just put no effort, emotion, or feeling into it, and it sucked. He sucked. He sucks.
Suuuuuuuu-uuuuuuuuuuucks.

Overall:
Trenyce
Clay
Kim
Ruben
Josh

I fear, though, that Trenyce's number may be up.

Take 1. The 60s!

Ruben. Ain't Too Proud To Beg. I think he did a really good job with this song. But ya know Simon is right about how his face changes after he sings the song. He looks like a deer caught in headlights.

Clay. Sugar Pie. I think Clay did a pretty good job. Tried to mix it up a bit. Tried to wiggle his booty a bit. His voice is amazing.

Trenyce. Proud Mary. I think Trenyce was great tonight. She really gave it her all. I like the hair too.

Kim. Heard It Through the Grapevine. I didn't think this was actually too bad. She really changed the song around and made it her own.

Josh. It sure was better than last week. However, it just didn't have any oomph.

Take 2. Neil Sedaka songs.

Ruben. Breaking Up Is Hard to Do. I really don't think the contest is over and Ruben is the winner. He did really well tonight but there are still a couple of weeks left and anyone can have a bad week.

Clay. Solitaire. Clay rocked this song. He got rid of the stupid ass movements and just sang.

Trenyce. Love Will Keep Us Together. Unfortunetly I think its out of her and Josh who goes but I really like what she did with this song.

Kim. Where the Boys Are. Fabulous!!!!!!!!!! thats all i need to say

Josh. Bad Blood. Urgh....please be gone tomorrow

19. "RE: American Idol Critique List, v.2.8"
1. Clay - Best performance of Round 1 by far. Solid effort in Round 2. I was a bit disturbed when he didn't know the meaning behind the song he was singing in Round 1, I'd like my artists to know the meaning behind the song. (As silly as they may be)

2. Trenyce - Wow! Definitely surprised me. Best performance of Round 2, if her Round 1 performance was a bit off. Imho, she actually took her criticism's last week to heart and showed her personality in both her outfit and song.

3. Kimberley - Solid effort on both songs, but both were kind of "meh" if you ask me.

4. Ruben - OMG is he getting boring! I was falling asleep during his Round 1 song, I can't even remember what he sang.

5. Carmen - She didn't sing on the show this week, but she did good in her guest appearance on David Letterman. She was funny and delivered her lines well. Go Carmen!

6. Josh - Josh's Round 1 performance I actually thought was pretty good. He was in his element and had a good twang to his voice. After the first round, I thought "Wow, this is a great show--everyone is really good tonight". Then Josh came on and totally butchered his 2nd round song. I know I threatened to vote for Josh for two hours to avenge Carmen, but I could only bring myself to dial his line for the first 30 minutes or so, then I switched to Clay to make sure he wasn't Tamyra'd.

20. "RE: American Idol Critique List, v.2.8"
As far as I was concerned, there was everybody else, and then.....down in the cellar...make that the sub-basement....buried under the rubble from a nuclear explosion......Josh. Awful. Simply awful.

The 60's Rankings:

1. Trenyce- I hate to put Lashundra first, cause I really don't like her, but she tore it up with "Proud Mary", and she looked great (I smell Diva of the Week, Larry!). BUT---to whomever said it, can't remember----NO ONE has "tina-legs" but Lady T herself!!!! Anyway, Simon needs to upgrade his cocaine supply....being reminded of a drag show while watching that performance must be the result of some bad rock.

2. Clay- Don't like the song, liked him doing it. But, then, I'd probably love Clay singing ANYTHING.

3. Reuben- incredible song choice for him, but I'm getting bored. Plus, I remain constantly afraid he's going to keel over of a heart attack.

4. Kim- HATE, HATE, HATE to rank my "big gal" this low, but her "Grapevine" didn't do it for me.

5. Josh- Awful. Bad. Pathetic. Terrible. Disgusting. Flabby. Loser. Yuck. Painful.

Neil Sadaka's Songs:

1. CLAY. Most of Sadaka's stuff is pretty innoculous.... teeny drivel, as it were, but I've always liked "Solitare". And Clay NAILED IT. Stop listening to Paula, hon, you don't need to jiggle around....just stand there and sing. You do it better than anybody. This song was the moment of the competition, for me.

2. Kim L- Much better on "Where the Boys Are" than "Grapevine".

3. Trenyce- A good solid night for her, all round.

4. Reuben- His usual good job, same old, same, old. BUT, worlds, no make that universes, above.....

5. Josh. See comments above.

If anyone other than Josh goes tomorrow, I will lose all faith in the American public. Hell, like that's never happened before.......

21. "RE: American Idol Critique List, v.2.8"
I thought last night was good, they were all on their game for the most part (well, except Josh) and I was thouroughly entertained.

The 60's

1. Trenyce. She did tear it up in Proud Mary. I thought she really put some effort into this song, and hopefully this will keep her in the game.

2. Clay. I've never cared for Buttercup that much, BUT he sped it up and the outcome was great.

3. Ruuuuben. He did good, but he did have some pitch issues through the song. Why don't the judges ever call him on it?

4. Kim L. She did okay, I wasn't blown away, but it was a good performance.

5. Josh. Well, for Josh this wasn't too horribly awful, but compared to the rest of the singers, it sucked.

Sedaka songs:

1. Clay. This blew me away! Love the song, love his version of it. I think Neil was right, this song now belongs to Clay. I can't wait for his first CD to come out, I'll be buying it.

2. Ruben. He did a good job on this, and he does have a very smooth voice. However, he's not pushing himself like the other contestants are.

3. Trenyce. Pooh was dead on about her nails tapping the side of her head whenever she sings thinking!LOL She was a little shaky at first, but toward the end she picked it up and did a fabulous job!

4. Kim L. She also sang great on this song. I would rank her higher, but this was a really tough competition tonight. Sometimes it sounds to me like she's singing from the back of her voice (does that make sense?), and it's distracting.

5. Josh. Okay, here goes my rant! What the hell is he still doing here? It's so obvious that he is outclassed in this competition. A vote for Josh does NOT make you more patriotic! A vote against Josh does not make anybody less patriotic. This is not a competition for who supports America, this is a competition for who is the best SINGER! Listen carefully to his singing and you will hear how far below the rest of the singers he falls. I also hate the fact that he has to somehow mention that he is a Marine in EVERY show! What a chump. Be a man and try to win on your own merit, not that of troop support. Please, please, please, I beg of you all-do NOT vote for Josh. Don't make the other, more deserving contestants suffer so that you can feel patriotic. Whew! I feel much better.

GO CLAY!

LAST EDITED ON 04-30-03 AT 02:20 PM (EST)

*edited because these are threads and not e-mails. Duh!!!!*

I am going to have to revise my favorite performances thread. Finally, everybody (ok, almost everybody) sang something that made me want to listen. Songs are ranked in order that I liked them by 1960's and Neil Sedaka, and the #'s next to them are how I overall ranked the performances.

1960’s

Build Me Up Buttercup Clay Aiken (1)
Am I the only person who LOVES this song? From the beginning, I was telling me DH that I hoped Clay would sing this song. It is the perfect song for him to sing and I thought he did a fabulous job with the song. This is my new fave Clay performance—enough to get me off my apathetic a$$ to send a few votes his way.

I Heard It Through the Grapevine Kimberley Locke (5)
I thought Kimberley did incredible with this performance. I loved it. I saw that others have posted that she starts out slow, and I completely agree! I always like the second verse better than the first.

Ain't too Proud to Beg Ruben Studdard (7)
I liked the performance. I didn’t love it.

Proud Mary Trenyce (8)
I think she tried too hard to be Tina Turner and failed. Simon was spot on with his drag queen comment. IMHO, she looked dreadful, but I guess I don’t appreciate the finer things in life. Most seem to disagree with me. She sounded good, but not great. A few pitch issues.

Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye Joshua Gracin (9)
Can I please tell you goodbye? Please? I think Josh should head back to singing the “Halls of Montezuma” refrain as he is running (don’t Marine’s call it humping?—Just asking) with his squadron. And, on a side note, not having to do with his singing—I always thought Josh’s answers, while dull and patent, were classy. Not so tonight. ‘Nuff said.

Neil Sedaka songs

Love Will Keep Us Together Trenyce (2)
Am I actually putting a Trenyce song first? Do I actually think she looked and sounded fabulous? Oh, how the tide has turned. She was amazing. There have been several weeks where I really felt like Trenyce deserved to go. She made the list of performers that I might actually buy a CD from for the first time. You go, girl!

Solitaire Clay Aiken (3)
I loved this performance. I had never heard the song before, but I loved the way Clay sang it. Now that he is sans most of his facial gestures, he seems even better able to be a pop icon. I would buy this CD. On a side note, when Ryan handed Clay the olive oil for the stupidest segment ever, Mr. _ger, as he was walking through the room says, “That’s not olive oil.” Heh.

Where the Boys Are Kimberley Locke (4)
This was also an amazing performance. I liked it better than her first performance.

Breaking Up Is Hard to Do Ruben Studdard (6)
Gasp! Is Ruben in the bottom two? How did this happen? He was great, as usual. That’s the problem. I couldn’t see myself buying a CD of his, though.

Bad Blood Joshua Gracin (10)
I really want to like Josh, but my ears didn’t hear him hit any of the notes, even by ACCIDENT.

Order according to tonight only IMHO:
Clay Aiken
Kimberley Locke
Trenyce
Ruben Studdard (how did this travesty happen?)
Joshua Gracin

I think America will have something bizarre like:
Josh and Clay in the bottom two
(Because Clay will be Tamyra'd. Everyone thinks he'll be OK, so they will vote like crazy for others. I got through easily on Clay's line last night.)

And please let them boot:
Josh

Personally, i think _finally_ Clay outshined Rueben for once. I think even Simon was finally impressed with Clay.

I hope he keeps it up. I think both Clay and Reuben are great talents, but the quality of Clay's voice far surpasses Reuben.

And finally, its time to say bye-bye to our Marine.

26. "RE: American Idol Critique List, v.2.8"
1) Clay - I honestly think this was his best week. He works well with the criticism he receives and makes the changes. Good for him.

2) Kim L. - A good night for her. Hopefully she can make the final 2.

3) Trenyce - Not really that sad to see her go, but it was one of her better performances.

4) Ruben - He's boring and sounds the same every week. The one thing he has going for him is that it sounds good.

5) Josh - There was a time when Josh was right up there with the others and he's still one of my favourites. I think one of the reasons that he is still there is that America thinks he can still do better. What happened to the Josh from the early rounds? He was as good as any of the top people. I just don't think he gets any songs that he really can do anything with. Hopefully he will step it up because I feel he can do better.

Overall:

For the first time, Josh has been taken out of the lead. Congrats Clay!

1) Clay 2.50
2) Josh 2.63
3) Kim L. 3.13
4) Trenyce 3.88
5) Ruben 4.13
