I looked around and have noticed that there have been no references to Locke's name. Locke is named after the philosopher John Locke. Since nothing in this show doesn't have some sort of significance his name must mean something too.For those of you who don't know Locke came up with the natural rights philosophy that all humans possess 3 nautural rights: Life, liberty, and property and they possess these rights even in a state of nature where there is no governement. His philosopy is deeply rooted in our own declaration of independence. B/c we want to protect these rights we enter into a contract and form a government but by doing that we lose our freedoms. Obviously, the state of nature has to refer to the island. There is no leaders, no laws, each person has to protect his or her natural rights. But I'm not sure where Locke ulitmately fits into this. Maybe he will be the one to split the survivors and form some sort of government. Any ideas??? This has been bugging me for the longest time.
