hey Larry ...
I know I came to this posting kinda late (just found it today, even though I've read a bit of your stuff before), but I wanted to tell you that I agree wholeheartedly with EVERYTHING you said.I don't know if you're ever seen the Jimmy Kimmel Show on ABC Late Night, but I was flipping the channels on Weds. night (5/14) before bed, and they showed the clip of Clay landing at the Durham Bulls stadium in the helicopter. Not only did they make fun of the way his voice goes up when he says "The helicopters goin' down!" but they also played the part of Clay throwing out the first pitch in slooooow motion to make fun of his "girlie" pitch. Then, Jimmy made a tasteless joke about Clay "being a catcher -- not a pitcher!". I just about through my friggin' remote through the TV, yo.
it's overblown frat boys like Jimmy Kimmel who perpetuate this crazy homophobia that still exists in 2003 America! I swear, it's like the last "okay" thing for people to make fun of.
anyway, I love Clay with all my heart and soul. I don't give a flying patootie which team he bats for -- all I care about is that he's a warm and witty human being with a FABULOUS voice. And that's all there is to it. ;)
yours,
