Qwerty, I thought the exact same thing when I saw the replay. Even more damning was that she wasn't sad or mad or anything afterwards; she just looked sort of neutral and smug.
Maybe I'm just suspicious, but it seemed to me that it was her fault, and not Lauryn Williams'.

I don't think she muffed it on purpose. From what I saw last night, Lauryn went out too early, and Marion couldn't catch up to her in the space allowed for the pass.

I thought I saw Marion's hand with the baton right above Lauryn's hand.. it wasn't the speed but the height that was the problem. Of course it could be either one's error, but given the circumstances, I'd say it's legitimate to be suspicious.

Somehow, I don't think someone of Marion's vast experience and history would be having so much trouble putting a baton into Lauryn's hand nor be slowing down so much at the end.
Personally, I think she tanked it, especially after seeing her interview with the rest of the team -- why drag down the rest of the team with her when she's busted by the IOC and have everyone else pissed at her?
