...are not starting out well. The source is a little dubious -- morning after and may not include all markets -- but I heard 6.2 for the first half-hour and a solid knockout by CSI and -- sheesh -- SuperNanny -- from 10 p.m. on. BluePeeps, confirm/deny?

Yes, I am insane. What does that have to do with the unpopularity of Boxing?

LAST EDITED ON 03-08-05 AT 01:44 PM (EST)> BluePeeps, confirm/deny? Well, CSI: Miami did woop its butt, but I think that was to be expected. My quick comments about the ratings based on a review of Nielsen's Primetime Preliminary Fast National Data: (so these numbers are likely to change, although they are national numbers) First, the half-hour breakdowns in viewers, Adults 18-49, ADults 18-34, Men 18-34, and Women 18-34: 09:30-10: 8,972 - 4.3/10 - 4.3/11 - 4.0/12 - 4.5/11 10-10:30: 7,798 - 3.9/09 - 3.9 10 - 4.3/13 - 3.5/08 10:30-11: 8,423 - 4.2/11 - 4.3 12 - 5.0/15 - 3.6/09 The show started out strong, then tailed off, then came back, but not back over it's original numbers, which typically isn't a good sign, although the post-10PM hour (when viewership drops) is likely a factor there. More interesting was the shows performance at 9:30PM and with WOMEN and YOUNGER VIEWERS. At 9:30, Contender finished 3rd in viewers and 3rd in Adults 18-49, but FIRST in Adults 18-34, Persons 12-34 (can't call a 12-year-old an adult), Females 12-24 (you also can't consider them a woman), Women 18-34, Males 12-34 (or a man), and Men 18-34. A lot of that was no doubt due to the Fear Factor lead-in -- a show that appeals mostly to youth of both sexes -- but that was still promising. The news wasn't so good at 10PM however. The Contender still managed to finish first among Men 18-34 in the 10PM hour and the tiniest sliver behind CSI in Males 12-34, as well as ahead of Supernanny for 2nd in Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34, but Supernanny and CSI stole most of the female viewers, dropping it to a distant third behind both of the female-skewing shows in the female demos and third (although not by a lot) in total viewers (Supernanny did 8,579/9,355 in the half-hour periods.). Also noteworthy is that its Fear Factor lead-in also kinda sucked, averaging only about 8.2 million viewers in its first hour (before Contender seekers began tuning in at 9PM and jumped its viewership to 10.6 million) so that was also a significant factor in Contender's performance. Personally I'm expecting better numbers for Thursday's post Apprentice broadcast -- just like how Fox's House series suddenly went from nearly DOA to "smash hit" once it started airing post-Idol, The Contender's second episode numbers should be helped enormously by the fact that Apprentice will be delivering nearly twice the number of Fear Factor viewers as it's Thursday lead-in. The last time an original episode of Medium, NBC's new normal 10PM, faced an original CSI episode was on 2/14/05, when Medium also had a significantly stronger original Las Vegas episode (averaging about 12 million viewers) as its lead-in. Medium did do much better than Contender on that night, averaging about 14.6 million viewers but still second to CSI's 19 million (a number that climbed to about 21.3 million last night with the broadcast of an original February sweeps episode that CBS had intentionally held back from last week in an attempt to counterprogram against The Contender.) (and speaking of the power of lead-ins, every critic on the planet seems to have conveniently forgotten about Apprentice's loss of Friends as a lead-in when writing their "Apprentice's ratings are down" stories, but that's a subject for another post.)

Contender is getting ER's timeslot? It should do well on thursday at 10. Not much competition except without a trace. Glad they are moving it from monday, theres too much stuff on monday already to add another show to the mix.

LAST EDITED ON 03-08-05 AT 02:33 PM (EST)>Actually, I think the Thursday at 10 timeslot is just for >this week. If I'm not mistaken, the regular time will >be Sundays at 8. That's correct -- neither last night's time period or Thursday's slot is the show's "regular" time period. The show will air Sundays at 8PM versus CBS's Cold Case, ABC's Extreme Makeover Home Edition, etc. -- NBC has been billing this week's two broadcasts as "special previews." It bounced around a lot before premiering: http://www.realitytvworld.com/index/articles/story.php?s=3234
