Recap of last week’s show. (I missed the episode thanks to college basketball and DVR errors.)Departure times from Salt Lake City: (1) Linz 12:46 AM; (2) Bransen 1:23 AM; (3) Godlewski 1:30 AM; (4) Weaver departs 5:02 AM. Clue: drive to Park City High School to find the next clue. Linz’s find clue box and tear a number off the board. Clue: Teams must work as a team to inflate a hot air balloon. Then get on board for a scenic rice over the Utah countryside. Upon landing teams will receive their next clue. Beginning at 6:00 AM, shuttles to the balloon site will depart every 10 minutes with one team per shuttle. (Bunching! Aaack!!) The Linz family decides to sleep in their camper. Bransens are second to clue box. They also sleep in their camper. The Godlewskis arrive, read their clue and go to sleep in their camper. The Weavers depart. They don’t have a map so are unable to check directions back to Park City. The Linz alarm goes off at 5:30 AM and they prepare to leave. As they are preparing to depart the Weavers drive up and start hollering and celebrating. They are hollering whether the Linz are happy they wasted their yield, ask if they’re sorry, Linz say no. Linz depart in 6:00 AM shuttle. Bransens depart in 6:10 shuttle, Godlewskis at 6:20 AM. Linz are inflating their balloon, Bransens arrive and start. Godlewskis arrive and begin. Weavers arrive in 6:30 am shuttle, Linda says ‘that’s the team we’ve got to beat, the snotty little ladies’. Linz are in the air. Bransens take off. Godlewskis board their gondola. Rolly is being pulled across the ground by the balloon. The Weavers are in their gondola. The Bransens are approaching Linz rapidly, their balloons brush each other. Rolly is nervous about balloon gondola. Linz have begun their descent and receive clue. Clue: drive yourself 14 miles to Heber Valley Railway. Search the grounds for the next clue. Bransens (2nd place) land and receive clue. Godlewskis land on rock pile and receive their clue. The Weavers’ gondola lands on a steep hill (if you watch closely you can see a man in a white shirt climbing the hill to assist them). The pilot is trying to give them the clue and they are screaming as the gondola starts slipping down the hill.

The Weavers receive their clue and start to climb out of the gondola. You can see several production people (?) helping to stabilize the gondola. They are screaming and sliding down the hill.Linz arrive at railroad. Detour: Spike It or Steam It. In Spike It, teams use old-time materials and tools to complete a 20 foot section of railroad track. In Steam It, teams use buckets to fill a tender of an old steam locomotive with nearly 400 pounds of coal. In both tasks, a railway engineer will need to approve their work before they receive their next clue. Linz decide to Spike It. Bransens arrive at railroad and decide to Spike It. Godlewskis arrive and decide to Spike It. Weavers arrive and decide to Steam It. One of the Bransen girls gets beaned in the head. (Ouch!) Wally finally found a task he can do!! He’s wailing with the sledge hammer. The Weavers seem to have an effective method going to move the coal. The Linz finish but the engineer does not approve their work. One of the Godlewski sisters suggests changing tasks but is shut down. The Linz redo one spike and their work is approved and they are given the next clue. Clue: Drive 148 miles to the Bonneville Salt Flats. Here they will find an 87 foot sculpture ‘The Tree of Utah’, then scan the surrounding salt flats to find their next clue. Bransens complete their task and receive their clue. The Godlewskis are b!tching at each other. The Weavers complete the task and receive their clue. They are happy they are in front of the ‘Housewives’. The Godlewskis are close to a meltdown. They tighten their last bolt and receive their clue. More strife in the van as they drive away.

The Godlewski sisters are arguing and ‘Validate Me’ Christine is crying. The Linz arrive at Salt Flats and find the clue box. Clue: Make you way to Gordon (Garden?) City and find Bear Lake Rendezvous Beach. Bransens arrive as Linz are running back to their truck. The Weavers arrive as Linz depart. The Godlewskis arrive at ‘Tree of Life’ and receive the clue. This trip is nearly 400 miles. Teams will camp their overnight and depart in the order in which they arrive. Beginning at 8:30 AM, departure times will be 15 minutes apart. Bransens are first team to arrive. Weavers arrive second and will depart at 8:45 AM. They hit up the other campers for money, and receive a map. The Godlewskis are third team to arrive and will depart at 9:00 AM. Due to a production error involving camera equipment, their battery in the Linz truck was drained. The battery was fixed but they have fallen to last place. They arrive and will depart at 9:15 AM in the morning. Departure clue: drive 137 miles to Wyoming and find Dunham Ranch in Big Piney WY at the head waters of the Green River. Once there they will find their next clue. Bransens depart at 8;30 AM. Weavers depart, 8:45 AM, Mama Weaver is pleased they ‘found’ these maps. The Godlewski sisters are departing and bickering. The Linz’s depart and are pumped to catch up and pass the other teams. The Bransens find Dunham Ranch and find clue – Roadblock: Who’s Ready to Cowboy Up? In this roadblock, 2 people mount horses and take 6 cattle from the holding pen and herd them ¼ mile into a corral. Once they have completed the roundup a cowboy will give them their clue. Lauren and Beth are riding for the Bransens. They have a cowboy giving them tips how to best herd the cattle. The Weavers arrive at the ranch. The Bransen sisters begin corralling the horses. They are surprising effective. They complete the task and receive the clue – I’m Old and Faithful. Teams must travel 190 miles to Yellowstone National Park and find Old Faithful. After they have seen the eruption they will receive their next clue. Weavers read the clue and Rebecca and Rachel are doing the task for their team. The Weavers have 3 horses at home and at one time planned to participate in a cattle pinning competition. The Godlewskis overshoot the ranch and are trying to turn around. The Linz are gaining on them.

The Godlewskis are still having difficulty turning around their trailer. Another driver stops and will help them and is successful. They arrive at the ranch as the Bransens are departing. Weaver sisters finish corralling their cattle and receive their clue. Weaver departs as the Godlewskis read the clue. Sharon and Michelle performing this task. Sharon’s horse won’t move, then won’t stop. The Weavers meet the Linz on the road and refuse to pull over to the side, tell them that outgoing vehicles have the right of way. The Godlewskis complete the task as the Linz arrive. Tommy and Alex performing the task. They appear to complete the task fairly quickly and receive their clue. Bransens arrive at Yellowstone National Park, find Old Faithful and the firefighter and have to wait for geyser to go off, next expected time is 4:28 pm. Weavers arrive at Yellowstone. Wally is hoping the geyser won’t be a bunching point. The Weavers arrive at Old Faithful. The Godlewskis arrive at Yellowstone – will they make it before the expected eruption? The Linz arrive shortly behind the Godlewskis. Old Faithful begins to erupt as Bransens and Weavers watch and receive their clues. Clue: Drive south on Highway 287 and find the ranch at 15200 and Phil. Godlewski arrive as Bransen and Weaver return to their cars. The Bransens tell Godlewski where to go, Weaver says ‘don’t tell them anything’. The firefighter tells Godlewskis Old Faithful is scheduled to erupt again at 6:02 PM. And, ‘thar she blows’, and Linz and Godlewski are off. One of the Linz boys points out the clue does not mention Pit Stop and wonder what’s up. Bransen and Weaver are racing for the ranch and discussing strategy for running to the map when they arrive. Phil is sitting on a rail fence, both teams are running pell-mell to him. Bransens arrive first at the mat, one sister fell. Weavers are right behind. They are told they have not finished the race, they are still racing and he hands them their next clue. To Be Continued…..
