"Final Ratings for American Idol Season 3"
LAST EDITED ON 05-28-04 AT 04:04 PM (EST)

Source Associated Press

An estimated 31.4 million people tuned in to watch Fantasia Barrino's tearstained victory at the conclusion of "American Idol," Nielsen Media Research said Thursday.

That was down slightly from the 33.7 million who watched Ruben Studdard beat Clay Aiken at the end of last season.

Fox said viewership is down in general this week because summer is approaching, so it was pleased by the numbers. Overall, ratings for the full third season of "American Idol" were up about 15 percent over last year, Nielsen said.

1. "RE: Final Ratings for American Idol Season 3"
I wanted to add my spin on the seasonal ratings increase.

I think the increased ratings had something to do with the fact that consensus good singers (ie. Jennifer and La Toya) were getting voted off before some of the others that might have had a large fan base but less talent (John and Jasmine). This uncertainty drew viewers back for the next week to see what was going to happen. The uncertainty kept the show from being boring.

Since the seasons ratings are very high and rising from AI2, I do not believe that any of the conspiracy theories going around about the producers or Fox rigging the outcome are valid. They would be crazy to do something like that since if they were caught it would tremendously hurt the show, and might even kill it.

http://www.tvguide.com - On May 25, Danny Salomon has stated that Hollyood has exploited the American public with reality shows because they simply ran out of celebrities to exploit. Makse sense?- Yup! For more info visit www.dannysalomon.com
