In addtion to what Buggy said, since she is now my Romber spokeswoman, I may add that just like sports teams that earn their chance to win again because they are good atheletes, Romber earned their chance to win again by being good reality tv contestants. It's TV! It's not about giving everyone who applies a fair shot. The producers pick what will work for the show. In some cases, it's cute people, other cases it's obnoxious people and still others it's entertaining people. In this case, they picked Romber because they are cute & obnoxious & entertaining. Romber asked to be on the show, possibly even begged. But they were chosen by the producers because of what they could bring to the series, not because they already won a CBS show. Could you imagine Vee on TAR? Also, just like in sports, in TAR you have to finish better than last in all non-elims (ie win an entire season) to make it to the finals. They DID earn it.

People are generally nice no matter what country you go to. It's not dependent on being on TV before or anything like that. Add in that each of these teams has a camera and sound man with them it will be easy for any of them to get the help they want/need. A 5 second explanation that they are in a TV show that is a race around the world will have many people helping out. All they need to do is ask for that assistance which the other teams haven't been doing as often. It isn't an unfair playing field when any team can do the same thing. Yep some people have recognized them but you can't tell me female teams haven't used sex appeal to help them out in similar ways or older teams using their age to help themselves out....etc etc etc etc. And so what if they've won a million dollars before? Who the heck cares. These contestants on this show don't need the money either. And quite frankly I'm willing to bet that Meredith and Gretchen and many other teams are just as "well off" if not more so. A million dollars IS NOT that much money. It helps out but it certainly doesn't mean they are on easy street for the rest of their lives....or even in 5-10 years. Fine if this was about giving those folks who are less fortunate a chance at a million but it isn't....it's about giving interesting people with interesting or volatile realtionships a chance to win some money and entertain millions of viewers. And you can bet any other contestant is going to try to milk their "fame" for all its worth and owe it to being on the amazing race.

People don't like Rob and Amber because they win, because they think and they're strong and they are hard to best.
Meradith and Gretchen liked the teams that helped them during the race, Rob and Amber didn't help them. In South Africa they ran across some people who recognized them, in South America one person offered to help them, but other than that Rob has looked for someone to help as a guide, has asked locals for directions and help, this is nothing any other team couldn't have done at any time. In fact in India, Ron & Kelly benefitted from Rob's guide and even tried to steal him. They're known by us because we're Survivor fans, but I seriously don't think they are THAT famous. Out of 11 people I work with everyday, not one of them has a clue who Rob and Amber are. One has even watched a couple episodes of this seasons Amazing Race, and wasn't sure which couple was the Survivor couple. They've heard of Survivor, but don't have any idea who is famous in Reality circles.

Much as I love Romber, I can understand the envy is more intense than with Allison's repeat appearance. Allison won, what, perhaps $25,000 or $50,000 for runner up on BB? And she was in a house for about three months to earn it. Most people probably did not know who she was -- I wouldn't have recognized her. Romber won, by my estimate, approximately $ 1,350,000 between them from Survivor (their ##### winnings totalled $1,000,000 for Amber and $250,000 for Rob, and their previous Survivor finishes probably totalled approx. $100,000).

Why must every freaking thing have to be about Rob and Amber? I like G/M but I don't think complaining about R/A does them any credit.I blame the interviewer. There was so much to ask them without bring up the R/A stuff and to be honest (and if I could scream this at the top of my lungs I would) I'm tired of everything going back to Rob and Amber..why not ask G/M about the things the charming Ray said about them or about how they felt about something they did in the race? It reminds me of that famous quote:
"Well, enough about me! Tell me, what do you think about me?" Somewhere, someplace there has to a small bit of Amazing Race fandom that is Romber neutral and thinks that if they run the best race they deserve to win and if not they deserve to not win? Or am I the only one?

The TV Guide.com interview asks M/G about Ray's comments and they basically say they felt sorry for Ray because his Early Show interview became "the Meredith and Gretchen Show". WTH? All the crap he hurled at them and they are OK with that? A tongue in cheek comment about M pushing G and M would have punched someone's (YKW) lights out? I think some people are ticked off because they just didn't get enough ATTENTION from YKW, lol.

<have really enjoyed the goings on for the most part.Hi baldeagle, and welcome! Oh yes, we do enjoy our DAW bashing privileges. I've even been known to laugh out loud, even when I know what I'm reading is incredibly unpolitically correct. Ya gotta admit - anyone as whiney as Gretchen, no matter what her age, would be obnoxious. She would have driven me nuts to be around even when she was in her twenties. I'm guessing that's to whom you are referring? I find "Bashers" the most fun, but if our antics are too distressing, try the "Fanatics" threads. You won't have nearly as much fun, though.  Glad you decided to post. What other reality shows do you enjoy? 
Everyone is entitled to my opinion.

1. I have to backtrack a little here: Romber did not "win" a spot on TAR the way the Red Sox "won" a spot in the World Series.
2. The focus on Romber by the media is because the producers wanted Rob on the show for his entertainment value and it should be no surprise that attention is thus focused on him. Some love him, some hate him -- makes for good reality tv.
3. I don't think Romber's fame from Survivor is the real reason they're winning. A bit of an advantage, maybe, but that's not getting them to the finish line each and every time.
4. Resentment toward the top competitors in anything is normal, some of the criticism is unfounded, but Rob's arrogant chest-thumping as he tells us how dumb the competition is could also have something to do with it. It's not all jealousy.
5. It's interesting how differently people are responding to Meredith's resentment of insults than they did when Rob expressed resentment over Amber being insulted. Just saying.

I don't think she beats any children and I don't remember making that exact reference. I just think she likes to act like the sweet old lady but I bet she can burn a person's eyebrows off in private when she's ticked off. I heard her screech on camera, I'm not deaf, and I actually think she was saying all the nice things on camera that people want to hear a "sweet little old lady" say. I'm saying that my opinion is she's "all fake nicey-nice". I could care less if she likes anybody, much less Rob and Amber, she doesn't gain any points for the sour sniping she does. Wait, did I mention I don't heart M/G? I think Joan Collins could do Faye Dunaway doing Joan Crawford and pull it off.

So M/G are more forgiving of hypocrites than people who are indifferent to them? Because Romber was never hateful to them. They really didn't have much to do with them or the other racers at all. And since M/G latched onto L/A, the biggest Romber haters in the race, can they really blame Romber for not acting like they are best buds?
