Come on, this competition os fixed. The judges praise Fantasia no matter how bad she is. Her voice is nasally and she often mispronounces words. She is going to win because it is fixed. Oh, and Simon said Fantasia is the best ever. What a Joke! To me Fantasia is awfully and sounded horrible tonight.

Thank you! I can't STAND her voice. She shrills and moves like a chicken. I think Simon is favoring her only because he doesn't want to sign a 16 year old. Come on, America.....let's vote for someone with talent....DIANNA!!!!!

You answer that question yourself It shouldn't have nothing to do with anything, but it does. Just like Jennifer Hudson got voted off before the horrible red head, come on now. And now everyone is hating on Fantasia. Just look at last year. When Ruben won noone could believe it. Its obvious he is a way better singer than Clay but then again race comes into play. Two minorities back to back that would be a conspiracy for America

That's sad. Is your world so polarized? Do you think that white listeners only buy records from white artists? Do you think that black listeners only buy records from black artists? And do you really think that most whites are determined to see blacks fail? If so, that strikes me as an unhealthy prejudice against Caucasians. I assure you, most whites I know don't think about race all that often. Blacks represent only about 12 percent of the U.S. population. ANY successful black recording artist probably has a substantial number of white fans. Hell, I bought two Hootie and the Blowfish albums.

LAST EDITED ON 05-26-04 AT 07:51 PM (EST)As my nickname might indicate, I live in NooJoisey. A very racially diverse state. And according to the US Census, I live in NJ's most racially diverse town. So perhaps my view of the world is skewed. But there's no skewing the Census data. Blacks comprise slightly more than 12 percent of the U.S. population. You can find the data here. Scroll down until you get to the chart.
Edited to add this: A further look at the 2002 Census date shows Texas has 21,779,893 people. Of those, 2,527,946 are black, which is 11.6 percent.

LAST EDITED ON 05-26-04 AT 02:03 AM (EST)My only response to you about your continuing fixation on the race issue is Josephine Baker, Little Richard, Luther Vandross, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Ruben Studdard, Jimi Hendrix, The Temptations, Nat King Cole, Natalie Cole, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Macy Gray, Usher, Diana Ross, Chubby Checkers, Kool and the Gang, Smokey Robinson, Lionel Ritchie, Donna Summer, Jackson 5, Prince, Jackie Wilson, Beyonce’ and the list goes on and on and on… Do you imagine any of those people would have made it in the music industry if a few of us "white people" hadn't bought some of their music and tuned into on the radio and danced to it at parties? I personally think Fantasia is the best...she's been my choice from week one but it's not because of her skin it's because of her voice...Please move on and stop being so devisive...

If ignorance is truly bliss, you are the most blissful person in America (White or Black). Its unfortunate that America has to be divided in to White and Black Americas. One day all the closed minded people who whine and cry will wake up and realize that this is AMERICA, one country. There are great African Americans athletes thats true. There are great African American Singers, thats true. There are great African American Dancers, thats true. Have you ever heard of Babe Ruth, Rocky Marciano, Larry Byrd, Joe Montano, Dan Marino, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Fred Astaire, Donald O'Connor? All great athletes, dancers, singers; all White however, all Americans. Maybe you should hit the books before you preach. Oh, as for Affirmative Action, research what you say in order to avoid sounding ignorant. I wish you the best of luck however, please, for the sake of our nation and our youth, stop the race issue. The race card has been played far too much, and for far too long. Some great African American Athletes are OJ Simpson and Jayson Williams, both murderers. Please educate yourself and concentrate on uniting America rather than dividing. Godspeed!

Thank you for the free legal lesson however you are wrong. It was a nice try though, looking up the word innocent in the dictionary. Unfortunately it wasn't a legal dictionary. Please read the following so that you can educate yourself. Not Guilty Does Not Mean Innocent By Newman Flanagan All too often when I listen to the radio or read the newspapers, I hear or see "at arraignment, the defendant pled innocent" or "the defendant was found innocent by the jury." The word "innocent" is being misused. "Innocent" cannot and should not be substituted for "not guilty." Technically, only three pleas can be entered by a defendant who is brought before the court to answer the charges against him. Under the Massachusetts Rules of Criminal Procedure, the defendant may plead not guilty, guilty or nolo contendere to any crime with which he is charged and over which the court has jurisdiction. The rules that are applicable to the criminal sessions of the trial court do not provide the defendant with the option of pleading innocent. There is no such plea available. Similarly, the Massachusetts Rules of Criminal Procedure provide for only two possible verdicts that can be returned by a jury: guilty or not guilty. There is no verdict of innocent. And, not guilty does not mean innocent. When a jury returns a verdict of not guilty, that means that the state has not convinced the jury beyond a reasonable doubt as to all the elements of the crime with which the defendant has been charged. Also, review the following because, given your irrational and angry outbursts, I am certain that you will need to understand this term, as it may be directed toward you. Non Compos Mentis : (nahn com-pose meant-is) adj. referring to someone who is insane or not mentally competent to conduct one's affairs. Happy reading and Godspeed PS Please let me know when you will be proven OJ innocent!

Shedevil, I agree with you in almost everything that you post, but this one you are wrong. Ruben album sold 2 million before it was release. Also his record has been on the billboard charts longer then Clay. No, I'm not saying that Clay is not a good singer but like you said its all about the style of music you like. I personally think Clay yells to much and some people think that Fantasia yells to much. The one thing that Kimberly, Clay and Diane have in common is they can hold those long notes. I really think that Fantasia deserves to win b/c she is a overall performer. Ruben has more of a voice that is low and soft unlike Clay his voice is high and scrathy(sp). Some people like it and some don't. The race thing is getting a little old. Let's stop bringing race in it. Me being from down south (Houston, TX), that's all you hear about. It's really getting old to me and sad that still in the year of 2004, people still use it as an excuse.

I couldn't agree with you more. Even though yeah, she might've sang that song Summertime a few weeks back and blew me away tonight wasn't her night "AT ALL"!!!. I can't stand that raspy, yelling, whinning voice any longer than an hour show let alone a whole cd. Diana showed viewers that have good ears what it takes to be the one. She can hold it down, but you'll never hear the judges praise her the way they seem to come togeteher for Fantasia week after week. Even though I more than often agree with Simon, tonight when he said Fantasia is the best ever I almost lost it. I don't know what the other judges put in his coke~cola but it sure did something to his brain.

Young kids are looking at Fantasia as a idol b/c she has a good voice. Not b/c she is a high school drop out or a single mom.Let's leave that out. For the record on the AI application form that you feel out asks you if you have a high school diploma or GED and I'm sure if she select neither or let it blank she wouldn't be in the competiton. Quit making excuse, Fantasia is good get over it. It's sad what people will say about others to make them look bad. Some parents these people had!!!!!!!!1

That's all he could come up with? THen after the third song (which I thought she also did great on), he said she must have been flustered because Fantasia did so great. I'm so sick of hearing about Fantasia. I thought she did terrible tonight and got undeserved praise for it.

All these nagative comments about these two are just wack!! Both of these brave young women are good. They came in off the street just normal folk. And look at them now. On there way to stardom! When Simon said the best ever, my thinking is he's looking back at all the AI seasons and Fantasia just seems to stand out because she's not afraid to take risks she just brings when she's out there on the stage. I agree with him. Maybe not the best ever but one of the best. She's just different. And Dianna she has improved so much since she first started. She's young with a powerful voice and a great feature ahead of her. WE will diffinitely here from both of them in years to come.

First of all, this is not a race issue. Its a talent issue. Latoya was the best performer, and she is African American. Stop using race as a reason or an excuse. Fantasia is not as talented as Diana, thats all. The fact that she is a high school drop out and had a baby out of wedlock means that she is not one who she be an idol to todays youth otherwise we'd have uneducated teens having babies and hoping to win the lottery. Well the lottery is not fixed. Oh, and as for it being Simon's show, look at the credits next time.As for Ruben being more talented than Clay, look at record sales. Oh, and imagine the music world without Elvis, Barbara Striesand, the Beatles, Barry Manilow and Frank Sinatra. There are great White and African American Singers. Stop the Race nonsense.

LAST EDITED ON 05-26-04 AT 09:45 AM (EST)cheri A couple of things here strike me. Do you think that their are no other unwed mothers in the US? I spent many years as a nurse working in a clinic where girls were getting pregnant young because of gang violence believing most of the men their age would be dead before twenty. How about that for reality? what if Fantasia wins and inspires ten people to go out and reach for there dream. And they do. Now they are full functioning people in society that can impact others. To assume unwed mother's only dream of winning the lottery is a stereotype. Goes hand and hand with what you are arguing about. What that has to do with Fantasia's talent is nothing. Fantasia is talented and a good all round performer. Diana is talented as well. It sounds as your preference is diana and to you she is more talented. To others in this forum. We might believe something otherwise. Ruben has sold over 1.5 million albums of Soul. I don't think that is a failure. He recieved the NAACP for best new black american artist. He has appeared in Scooby Doo II. I think he is doing just fine. But people not tuned into Ruben, don't see what he is doing. That doesn't mean he is doing nothing. That doesn't mean he is not successful. Clay is more " TV visible". Clay is exposed and quite a likable character. He is a great entertainer. Had phenomenal record sales and has good people managing him I assume. Your manager can make a difference in this business. I think all sorts of people make up the world we live in. Boy would it boring here if we were all the same. To really respect all people and their opinions requires shedding our own beliefs often. It is a very hard thing to do. Kudos to all those who came from nothing and made it. I think that was called the American Dream. Good day to all and Cheers!

I think Fantasia is a better ENTERTAINER then Diana is and I think that is what sells money. Lets face it most of your singers today are not good singers. Yet its entertainment that people pay money for. Last night they both to me were on an equal level if you noticed in the eys of the judges. 2 good songs, 2 bad songs. The way this show has gone this year, how does anyone not know that the judges were using their strategy in actually praising Fantasia, knowing that in the past the public goes against what they say... Especially if they are harsh. Actually I could care less who wins at this point since my favorites are gone. I do think Clay sold more albums then Ruben and I think he has had the longest running single on the charts so I am not so sure Ruben has bypassed Clay.

LAST EDITED ON 05-26-04 AT 11:29 AM (EST)There is no "fix." The viewers decide, and in my opinion, if the "fix" was that the final three were going to come down to Diana, Jazmine and Fantasia, and to boot LaToya before, it's been a terrible "fix." Please. Unless you're some sort of conspiracy theorist, the voters, right or wrong, decide this competition. The judges have preferences, but they certainly don't decide the outcome --- if anything, viewer backlash against judge's comments have often skewed the outcome, as when America (or Hawaii) rallied against Simon's comments to boot Jazmine two weeks ago and the unfortunate LaToya was booted instead. And remember, both finalists have been in the bottom group more than a couple of times in varying weeks. I hope Fantasia wins this competition because I believe she is overall a much better singer and performer. Diana is also very good -- I see strong potential in here -- but she is not as seasoned, her voice is not as mature, she can't sing the choruses as well as she can just hit the high notes (and she will learn better control as she gets better) -- Fantasia already has all that and more. I didn't particularly like Fantasia's choice of her first song, but she nailed the second two, whereas Diana was sloppy the entire night, like she usually is. You see the talent there, but she just can't control it yet. However, I do fear that Diana will win this competition because of more viewer backlash from judges' favorable comments towards Fantasia --- I cringed when Simon told F that she just "gave her acceptance speech" ..............not only is it cruel to get Fantasia's hopes up that way, but I could just see viewers around the country going "well, we'll see about that!" I don't have a problem with people voting Diana over Fantasia if they truly prefer her --- my problem is with all these people who essentially cast "vengance votes" against one singer for the other because they are trying to prove the judges wrong. It's happened numerous times this season and it's just asinine.

Alot of you fail to realize that fantasia is a "throw back" singer. Her vocal style is similar to that of Aretha Franklin and Edda James. The judges keep saying that she is unique, and she is because there are no other vocalist out there like her right now. And I know what's coming, " Oh she sounds like Macey Gray," and I totally disagree with that because Macey seems to have more of a spoken word style in that she is really not singing, Fantasia on the other hand is singing her tail off. Diana is a good performer but her voice is not mature. You can not sing power notes your whole career and expect to have a long run, and that is all that Diana has right now are power notes.

"Diana has more potential for the pop market than Fantasia"Agreed, but it isn't American Pop Idol or American Rhythm and Blues Idol. It's American Whoever Will Sell the Most Records and Concert Appearances and Give Us High TV Ratings Idol. And since the voting has been so wacky this entire season, who the heck knows what the American voters will do? It's not necessarily based on talent, as we have seen. Some of it's based on how much the judges tick someone off and whether local phone lines can handle the traffic. Who knows what other voting anomalies have reared their petty heads? So, even though one person will earn the title, I have to wonder if it's for the right reasons. I suppose record and concert sales will tell the tale.
This season has been a mess since the beginning.

I never said she was as good as them, however Etta, Aretha, and you can even throw in Patti Labelle are all the queens of the "sreetchy", "yelling" , maybe better teremed as Gospel style of music. And to imply you did not hear just as many Yeah Yeah Yeah's out of them would put you in serious denial.

LAST EDITED ON 05-26-04 AT 06:18 PM (EST)Some are asking how the vote total can be rigged. Please don't be so naive. Who controls the phone lines? Who controls the vote count? Also, ask Governor Jeb Bush of Florida how an vote of the American Public can be manipulated. Please don't be so naive, the Producers can decide the outcome. We are just pawns in their ratings game. They will decide if its better for a young girl from a solid family to win or if its better ratings wise for the next season for a High School dropout who had a baby out of wedlock to win. The pampered princess or the uneducated single mom? Thats the question the Producers will answer. My bet is that Fantasia will win although Diana probably received more votes. Oh, and the technical glitch, probably arranged by the Producers to make the public (thats us) believe the alleged vote. Diana sounding bad validates their appointment of Fantasia as the Winner.

And that would be because the judges falsly criticize Fantasia; because Fantasia's audio monitor malfunctioned during her final performance; because Fantasia had to sing first...Oh wait, thats Diana we're talking about. I can see how people would think the show is fixed for Diana, all the evidence is there!

You are right.. The Fantasia fix is in. Otherwise they would not have Diana as her competition. Diana only had 3 strong performances Her first one Gloria Estefan, and the song Clive Davis picked. The rest of her performances were average at best. If they didnt want Fantasia to win they would have LaToya in the final two. Diana at best was top six. Behind Fantasia, Latoya, George, Jennifer, and Amy Adams. Hell a case could be made for Jasmine who had more strong performances.

It was obviously a fix for Diana when the staff brought in Paul Anka to sing on Tuesday, a man whose first hit was "Diana". A subtle hint to vote for Diana. I am sure most voters were well aware of the singing history of Paul Anka.
