"TAR 21 - FINALE - East Coast Spoiler Thread"
I'll be a little late joining in on the action tonight but wanted to be sure that a thread is up for discussion of tonight's finale. Have at it, folks!

The twins are panicking - they have to do a speed bump while the rest of the teams are going on. But really - attacking the Beekman boys for riding on others coattails the entire race??? They've been fighting from the back of the pack the entire time. And who was it who spoke French?

Jaymes, James, Trey, and Lexi seem to be teaming up out of practicality - 6 heads are better than 2. But the twins seem to be doing it out of pure spite.

Cleared out for the day by CBS rental. I've never seen that much sauce. If I see a pizza like that, I generally assume something died on it.

I love how the Race is essentially hiding in plain sight here. Has one local reacted to the cameras? Just another day in the city.

This final challenge is too hard. I don't have a problem with hard, but it seems to me it will end up being a crap shoot as to who gets lucky and gets a few matches. And that will decide the $1M.

But not the winners who would be the least liked.

Thank you for broadcasting that kiss, CBS. I know you're going to get endless amounts of fundie flack over it. Tell them where to find the Navy Yards and tell them the bungee cords are gone.

And I have no objections to sending the Chippies back out on the course.

They were the team I was cheering for most of the season also.

When we saw what the final challenge was, despite them being in 3rd I actually thought they were going to win. I recall throughout the race that the Chippies were using the local language quite often. Sadly this may have just been "please" and "thank you" and not "hello" and "goodbye".

Yeah, if I'm going to learn a few words of a language, "please" and "thank you" are much higher on my list than "goodbye." I get that they didn't want to just do a recap of the tasks, because teams know that that's what they have to pay attention to and most do a good job of memorizing it. But that did seem a little too trial and error for a final task.

I think I would have done a good job on the final task. Like all the others, I knew the French and Spanish words for "Hello" and "Good-bye" (and I minored in Spanish while in college, so that would also have helped). But I also would have known the Russian words for "Hello" and "Good-bye". Since the Dutch word for "Hello" is similar to the English word, and since English was originally a Germanic language, I'd have recognized it as well. I might also have figured out that which words were Chinese and that one of the other words was Turkish. Beyond that -- yeah, trial and error, but at least I would have been ahead of the curve.

That's true, it did help if you knew the local cultures. And I knew a few more than they did (I can say Hello in Chinese and Goodbye in Russian). It also rewarded those who could think logically, and not those who panicked. I guess it was okay after all.

Which reminds me -- if I'd been doing the Roadblock (and I probably would have, if I'd gotten that far), I would have told myself, "Don't panic! Calm down and be logical about this!" And I probably would have counted to ten before I began. It probably would have helped.

I liked Jaymes and James a lot too, and thought they were being set up to win over the last few eps. But with the repeated emphasis tonight on how the Beekmans had never won a leg I thought they might end up taking it.

The Beekmans winning was quite the surprise come-from-behind win and I'm happy for them. I usually would be thrilled the underdogs took it all, but dang it, I wanted the Chippies to win! They're just so nice, likable, funny, and kind. Especially Jaymes. Or James. I don't know, the blond one, lol. You could tell he really wanted to help his dad. He looked so sad, I felt so bad for him.

Thank god it wasn't the Twinnies, tho. Team Texas was getting on my nerves at the end, too. Shouldn't steal people's money, what with karma being a beyotch and all.

I did too until they won cars for winning the Loire Valley leg. One of the James's said, my mom needs a new car...and I thought "overkill," they aren't going to win the entire thing. I hope they get asked back for an all-stars season but I'm not so sure how they'll do without an alliance! They seemed like genuinely nice guys.

I liked the last task. I think dark-haired James (I never figured out who spelled his name with a y) remembered better than they let on but since they didn't win, downplayed it. I loved the way Lexi panicked and crashed and burned. They followed too much of the way for me to want them to be winners.

As much as I like underdogs, I really, really did not care for the way Brent spoke to Josh whenever things got tough and how he blamed him for things. He doesn't seem like a very supportive partner.

That's exactly how I felt about the Beekmans, too. They were really nice to other people, but not so much to each other. When the Chips were down (haha), they were supportive and encouraging to each other, well at least blond Jaymes/James.

I thought for sure Team Texas was going to whip through that last challenge and was pleasantly surprised when she melted down. They were super annoying last night, with all their "babe" this and "babe" that. I seriously almost stopped watching one season because there were so many couple teams that couldn't stop yelling babe at each other. Definitely my biggest pet peeve about TAR by far.

When I first saw Team Chip, I was completely ready to loathe them. I can't believe they ended up my favorite team, maybe one of my favorite teams, ever.

30. "origin of the name Gotham"
It was meant to be. The final pitstop was Gotham Hall.

From Wikipedia:
"Gotham" had long been a well-known nickname for New York City. The nickname was popularized in the nineteenth century, having been first attached to New York by Washington Irving. Irving took the name from the village of Gotham, Nottinghamshire, England, a place that, according to folklore, was inhabited by fools. The village's name derives from Old English gat 'goat' and ham 'home', literally "homestead where goats are kept."
