"PUL-LEASE fire the camera crew!"
My apologies if this has been posted before, I took a quick look and I didn't see it.

I never thought I would admit it, but compared to these bozos, the yo-yos responsible for doing the camerawork for So You Think You Can Dance are brilliant.
I DO NOT give a flying rat's a$$ about the audience's reaction to the tricks. I want to see the act, not kids looking with their mouths hanging open reacting to some brilliant move that was not televised. If the act is not a singing one, I want to see close ups of the entire performance, not switching back and forth from nose-bleed section view to superclose up. I am sure this practise induces seizures in some of the television viewing audience

I could do a better job (just set the camera up, and wander away to get a diet Coke, come back later to do some minor adjustments). Where in the heck do these people get their training?

Thanks for letting me rant, I am going to go over to the NBC site and try to blast them.

I totally agree, Qwerty. More than a few times, they'd be showing an audience shot and then wild applause would start, only I had no idea why! Let us watch the acts, people!

And stay on each shot for more than a half a second, too! Even when they focus on the acts, it's like change, change, change. Makes me crazy. I could never focus on the guys that did the dancing because they kept switching camera angles on me. Argh!

I agree with you 100%. We miss half of the act because they are so busy filming the audience or filming at a horrible angle. I don't see how people can vote on who should win.

What's really funny is that they film a lot of those shots before the contestants even come out and then cut them in where they want to when they edit the show. I went to last Saturday's taping (which aired last night) and we spent a good 15 minutes filming applause, excitement, and surprised looks before Regis came out to start the show!

I think I mentioned something about this in the "So You Think...Dance" forum.

The producers all appear to be auditioning for MTv. No music video shots today are more than 1.5 seconds. That may be OK for a crappy music video, but not for a talent shows!!!

Why is nobody telling them that the constant camera switching is actually hurting their shows' production values instead of helping it??? Hmmm.....It seems somewhere along the line, in some videographers textbook, some author made the error of equating more camera angles with an exciting production.

How wrong they were....

Watching any of these shows could make a person develop motion sickness.

Don't blame the camera crew. It's the director who switches between shots. They just put their camera on the shot they're told to get.
