PLEASE NOTE: The Reality TV World Message Boards are filled with desperate
attention-seekers pretending to be one big happy PG/PG13-rated family. Don't
be fooled. Trying to get everyone to agree with you is like herding cats,
but intolerance for other viewpoints is NOT welcome and respect for other
posters IS required at all times. Jump in and play, and you'll soon find out
how easy it is to fit in, but save your drama for your mama. All members are
encouraged to read the
complete guidelines.
As entertainment critic Roger
Ebert once said, "If you disagree with something I write, tell me so, argue
with me, correct me--but don't tell me to shut up. That's not the American way."

LAST EDITED ON 01-29-03 AT 04:52 PM (EST)To be honest, you aren't worth my story. Delete my account... This place has turned... This place used to be a place in where people could exchange their ideas and such. To say that a piece is "a terrible" story because it has a basis... or been influenced by another... is art imitating art. For now on, I realize that this ISNT the place it used to be, or the place it will ever be. I hereby REMOVE my piece from any contention... And wish to remove myself for all of your minds. The bambi post was for you, EBug (which is what I meant by bugger, which is what I used to call you as LML) So... in other words... because there are no other words... go to hell. You wont see me around.

LAST EDITED ON 01-29-03 AT 04:10 PM (EST)When you make love to someone, your body makes a promise, whether you intend to or not. You know, I saw this movie too. That is a direct quote from Vanilla Sky. And there are a lot of other similarities. I think this is a terrible story, and before everyone gets mad at me for being unsupportive, this competition is for Origianl works. I think this is just way too close to be seen as completely original. Maybe I am being harsh, but I don't think so.
Edit to add- I have always been supportive of this competition, and of those who enter it ( with original material). I have entered myself and I know it takes courage to share your work. I think if this story was inspired by something else, that should have been made clear, instead anothers words were portrayed as the authors own. ( and parts that are very close to plot lines in the movie) I hope my comments here are read in the spirit they are intended, and that no one hesitates to enter a piece because of what I have said. I just personally feel the spirit of the competition is compromised by this story, and although that is my opinion I stand by it.

I've never seen "Vanilla Sky," so I don't know how much this piece parallels it. I went to IMDB to read plot synopses and I can see similarities, but it certainly doesn't seem as if the entire idea is stolen directly from it. But again, I haven't seen it, so there may have been a sub-plot that I don't know about or it may, in fact, be totally different. Dunno. The quote, as Lee said, is slightly different if you compare it to the page that True found ( a few words here and there), but it's close enough that one would be hard pressed to say that the author had never heard it. That said, I've written pieces that directly quoted other pieces, i.e., "She Came In..." begins with a line from a Beatles song. It's not an uncommon practice to pay homage in a piece.I emailed Buggy to ask her to edit her post a little bit, whether it's true or not. My reason? I don't want other folks who may be thinking of entering to be scared that they may receive a similar response. That said, her response dealt with the piece, not the person behind the piece. Lee, while I understand that it hurts to read a response to one's work similar to the above, it was still a response to the work, not to the person. Your response to Buggy was clearly to the person and was entirely inappropriate. I don't have the ability to lock threads, or I'd have done so as soon as I saw your response. As it is, I've alerted Webby regarding it. He hasn't responded yet, but if he asks my opinion, I would consider your post to be a clear violation of the ZTP (even if it was posted while feeling hurt by Buggy's post). Finally, if anyone has concerns regarding the originality of someone's work, please bring it to my attention privately and I'll look into it. Art of any kind is both difficult and very personal, and I'd prefer to keep even the potential taint of plagiarism off this board unless and until it's been definitively shown to exist. So can we go back to having some fun with the contest now and enjoying one another's work? Thanks. Criminals From the Neck Up

I apolagize to anyone ( Dave) who thinks my post is innapropriate. I think, since it has been responded to that to change my original words would be worse at this point ( make people wonder what I said) So right or wrong, what I did say is there. I hope my addition clarifies some things, and that people won't hesitate to share. That said, I don't think I flamed Lee, but I believe his response to me was clearly a flame. I have no idea what he means by Bambi. Nor do I know what he means by Bugger ( though I do know this is a slang term for something pretty nasty)
