"PR 5, Ep 8"
Double O Fashion

Reminder... will be spoiler info below.
We learn that Stella does not know how to make coffee.

Recap of last week, and then Leanne is given option of changing models, but she elects to stay with the same model.

Heidi then announces their special guest... Tim Gunn!

The challenge is that they will be designing for a fashion legend. Blayne is hopeful that it will be Mary Kate Olsen. He wants to marry her. After all, who doesn't?

Sadly, for Blayne, the fashion legend is not Mary Kate Olsen, but is instead Diane von Furstenberg (will be referred to as DvF for the remainder of this thread).

They will be creating a look for DvF's fall line, which is based on the movie "A Foreign Affair". They will be using DvF's sample room to select their fabrics. The winning look will be produced and sold exclusively to American Express card members. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the CFDA.

Lots of snarking during the work time about each others' designs. Suede resumes the 3rd person speak. *rolls eyes*

On to the runway...

Joe,

Leanne

Terri

Jerell

Korto

Blayne

Suede

Stella

Kenley

I looked for some pics on Bravo's site that showed some of the outfits from a different angle - no luck. I really wanted to show the back look of Leanne's dress and Joe's outfit. Plus, Stella's model wore the cape down the runway, so I think you would get a better idea of why the judges thought what they did about that if the pic reflected that look.

Anyway...
Terri, Jerell, and Blayne are called to be safe.

Judges comments on the top and bottom 6:
Joe - don't like the open back, pieces are not cohesive, odd

Leanne - very pretty dress, lot of good design

Stella - not edgy, liked mixing of fabrics, pants were horrible (construction), cape looked like magician cape or Dracula

Korto - very pretty, jacket is nice (DvF says VERY nice)

Kenley - very pretty dress, simple

Suede - too much fabric on skirt, not flattering fit, fabrics didn't go together

Korto is in.
The winner is Leanne (2 weeks in a row!)
Kenley is in.
Suede is in.
Stella is out, so Joe is in.

1. "RE: PR 5, Ep 8"
Joe: It ended up being a mess. Several solid parts that just combined really poorly. It's good that he didn't get sent home, he's still a good designer, he just had a bad week. Honestly, if it were just the pants and shirt, it would have been tacky but within reasonability. Ick.

Leanne: Absolutely the best for me this week. The outfit works on every level. It's glamorous fashion with a gorgeous ruffled dress and the right jacket. The outfit works on the theme level, as it looks very female spyish. It was just the right outfit for the right event and I'm thrilled about the win for her, more deserving than last week where I would have chosen her as well.

Terri: Another set of ****ing pants. Sure, she does it well, but I tired of Laura Bennett (she's made it into my good graces since), I tired of Rami, I'm tiring of Terri. She's only made a non-pants outfit thrice, and two of those were gimmick challenges (DQ and Gristedes), and one was required (Green). Solid outfit, but I know what's coming.

Jerrell: I thought he was very lucky to not be bottom three from that picture. His usual strong color choices are way off and it reminds me a little of Leanne's Green Challenge dress, a little, maybe it's just the hat.

Korto: Very pretty and in her aesthetic, a solid 2nd in this challenge. It was a poor-woman's Leanne in this case, but the use of yellow was good.

Blayne: I sort of like it in the picture, but using bloomers? No.

Suede: I just don't get it and he deserved some heat for this challenge. The dress simply wasn't good. It was very off-the-rack more than high fashion

Stella: It was her time to go. She just wasn't up to par talentwise with the remaining designers and this outfit wasn't terribly good, even a little similar to last challenge

Kenley: I got the dress, it made sense to me. I dislike the print, but on the whole, I see exactly what she was going for

1. Leanne
2. Korto
3. Kenley
4. Terri (somehow)
5. Blayne
6. Joe (at least the pieces alone were decent)
7. Jerell
8. Suede
9. Stella

2. "RE: PR 5, Ep 8"
Joe-where was the quality product? You got lucky. I think you were saved since they knew you did better work.

LeAnn-you design met the qualifications, it looked like it belonged in DvF's collection.

Terri-it was nice, and the photograph is better than the runway show.

Jerrell-it was so-so average. You need to really step it off or you're going to be sloughed off in about 3 weeks.

Korto-very nice as well. I give you 2nd place, but since I like you so much, I was disappointed that you didn't win again.

Blayne-what in the world?????? Come on, what show did you sign up for???

Suede-you having acid flashbacks or what? Look at that picture, does it really look nice? Seriously!!!

Stella-in other weeks, this would have looked nice. There was little room for error this week with so many nice outfits. I loved the vest top, and the pants would have been better pleated if you couldn't get the crotch right. Overall, I liked the thought, and the cape was just a little "off". This kind of suit concept was kinda neat though. I think you lost because you've been consistantly on the bottom with little improvement.

Kenley-the dress is nice and pretty. Heidi sure ripped you harshly though. I give you 3rd or 4th place.

Do we have a Korto, Terri, Leanne finale????

I HOPE that Terri is NOT in the finale. I don't like her at all. She is a back-stabbing, selfish, uncreative wannabe diva. IMHO, of course. I really haven't cared for much of what she's done, in comparison to some of the others.

Joe's model almost looks like she's standing to one side, doesn't she?? LOL. I do NOT know what the heck he was thinking! Do you get the feeling some of them are just getting so freaking tired that they are not putting 100% into some of these projects? I mean, they feel they'll at least make it through to the next challenge, by looking at the horrendous outfits some of the others are doing, so they just pin and snap together whatever they can to get theirs on the runway, so they can get this the heck over with! I am getting that feeling.

Stella, sadly, had that attitude from DAY ONE! What was it she told Heidi? Her ego was too big for this whole experience?? Hello! Your ego, maybe, but certainly not your talent! What a loser, with a capital L!! Go back to your letha, and Joan Jett, or whateva. So happy to see you gone, sweetie! Every. single. outfit you have done has been BAD TO THE BONE!

Jerell is just an entity unto himself. I can't figure that dude out. We need to know more about him, and I, at least, need to understand what his goals and visions are. Everything he does is so 'different', if you know what I mean....Blayne? Are you hetero, bi, or just a Mary Kate stalker?? If you'd just gotten rid of the knockers/bloomers, your outfit would not have been so bad.

Back to Stella-and DVF said it, there was nothing '30's about her look at all! Just needed to add that.

Kenley-geez, if she isn't talking and giggling, she's crying! Someone give that girl a shot of testosterone, or better yet, valium, would ya? She is SO annoying! Thank GOODNESS she did NOT win, but at least she can say that DVF got her look, and her vision. And it was a decent dress, even Diane said it would have been the winner had it have had a jacket. Wait till she hears that one! OMG, we'll never hear the last of that!!!

OK, I think I covered them all, except for Suede, whom I've conveniently forgotten. Suede, afterall, is so forgettable on so many levels. I honestly don't remember a thing about his outfit. OH YEAH! Camoflague-SO 1930's!! I remember my Gramma wearing cammo! How could I forget (sticking my tongue down my throat!!). Whatever. Add to that a houndstooth vest, and there you go.

4. "RE: PR 5, Ep 8"
I just wanted to start out with a big Thank You to Arkiegrl for doing such a great job in pulling this thread together so quickly each week. You rock!

Joe - Wow, he was damn lucky that he didn't get auf'd this week! I've generally liked his work, but he certainly hit a false note on this challenge. Didn't care for the extra snark factor from him regarding his fellow designers' work either. I want my old Joe back!

Leanne - How adorable was she playing "spy girl?" I'm really in her corner to take this whole thing. Excellent work that hit on every requirement of the challenge. She may come across as meek, but I think the others have something to fear from her outrageous talent.

Terri - I'm with Tim Gunn in not understanding the criticism of her always making pants. I mean most of the others simply make variations on cocktail dresses each week, and no one slags on them about it. The workmanship of her pieces is consistantly exquisite. She's a weekly contender for top three in my books.

Jerell - His creation just didn't do it for me. It didn't seem to have any cohesion, and I hated the stupid little "hat." His model also didn't put across the look very well, so that may have something to do with it.

Korto - For once I'm in disagreement with Tim regarding the yellow inserts. I thought that their addition really made the dress "pop." A solid showing from Korto once again this week.

Blayne - The jacket was cute, but those bloomers, ugh! I think Blayne is living on borrowed time.

Suede - It looked like two different outfits accidently got sewn together. I think that Suede is also on borrowed time.

Stella - Bad Attitude + Bad Design + Bad Execution = Well-deserved auf. I won't miss her.

Kenley - Superb fit and workmanship, but perhaps a bit simple for this challenge?

Considering all of the designs we've seen up to this point, I'd rank the designers as such:
Top Tier - Leanne, Korto, and Terri
Middle Tier - Joe, Kenley, Jerell
Bottom Tier - Suede, Blayne

Kenley and Terri trade places between top and middle for me.

So I guess top 4 are: Korto, Terri, Leann, and Kenley...

None of the outfits really struck me as particularly hot. Leanne's looks like it might be, but I can't see the back.

Leanne, Stella, and Blayne, however, had the hottest looking models, with Suede's and Jerrell's close behind.

Joe, Joe, Joe. Have a V-8, maybe that will fix the whole lopsided thing.

Talk about gagging. What did he find so wonderful about that look? I was very sad for him. That he crafted (poorly) such a Halloween costume and that he thought it was amazing. Snap out of it, hon.

The two outstanding designs were from Leanne and Korto. But those short jackets were just not going with those beautiful dresses, IMHO. I'm not a fan of the short jacket, generally. The one that's short in the body, long arms? I call them monkey jackets.

Going to keep an eye on Leanne. She's like stealth designer!

Question - Has anyone seen (and paid attention to) the Am-Ex commercial with DvF? I knew that the print Korto used is the same as a dress in the commercial, but a co-worker said the commercial dress also had the yellow material like Korto used. I don't remember that, and of course, have not seen the commercial this evening since my coworker said that.

I was just wondering if it was actually Korto's dress in the commercial. I knew that the print she selected was in the commercial - when I saw her picking that print, I thought she was going to be the winner of the challenge *because* I had seen the print already. I just didn't remember seeing any yellow in the dress, and was wondering if anyone else had seen it.

LAST EDITED ON 09-06-08 AT 01:01 PM (EST)

Whew! I'm so glad Joe didn't go this week, because I really think he has demonstrated some strong talents. This week was a bad one for him, and his tailoring is just awful. I didn't know how bad it was until they made his model turn around. Uneven hem and belt line. I don't know why he put the big hole in the back of his blouse. I do like the hooded scarf, and may make some for myself this coming season (I already have the sewing pattern).

Leanne's design really deserved the win. I love the jacket and the dress, and they could be paired with other pieces. I think her design is very saleable.

Terri proves once again that she is very good at making tailored pieces. I wasn't too sure about the fireworks fabric, but it does work here for this outfit.

Jerrell looks like he was definitely going for the 40's look with this design. It's okay, but not something I would wear. I don't care much for the hat, but the rest is alright.

I'm glad Korto used the yellow fabric to contrast with the black and white design. It does look good, though it's not one of her best.

Blayne - I'd wear that jacket, but not the pants.

Suede - the dress should have been better fitted. Sometimes I think the show's producers don't give the designers enough time to complete their work. I do like the dress, but I don't know how it ties in with DvF's new line, inspired by that 40's movie.

Stella - GF deserves to go. I don't think she gets it, but at least she didn't cry when she left like the 2 guys before her did. I think her looks must have grown on me, because I was thinking she actually looked pretty this episode.

Kenley - it's just a little print dress, nothing special. I'm guessing she didn't have more material in that print because that's all Diane had in her stock? Kenley's crying is getting on my nerves.
