"Weight Loss By Percentage" |
I think it would be more interesting if they could give consideration to each contestant's weight loss as a percentage of total body wieght instead of just raw pounds. One way would be to give immunity to the person on the losing team with the highest percentage weight loss that week. This would even the playing field for the smaller people.Below shows each player's weight loss as a percentage of their starting weight. Note that Andrea, not Dana, actually had the lowest percent weight loss from the losing blue team. Should SHE have been the one sent packing?
Name | Orig. Wgt | Lbs. Lost | % Loss | Aaron | 261 | 20 | 7.66% | Matt | 310 | 22 | 7.10% | Kelly M. | 242 | 15 | 6.20% | Kelly Mac. | 223 | 13 | 5.83% | Ryan | 330 | 19 | 5.76% | Gary | 227 | 12 | 5.29% | Lisa | 236 | 10 | 4.24% | David | 250 | 10 | 4.00% | Maurice | 436 | 13 | 2.98% | Dana | 175 | 5 | 2.86% | Andrea | 215 | 6 | 2.79% | Lizzeth | 167 | 3 | 1.80% |
What do you think? I will try to update this table as the show progresses.

I wish they would have given them 1 point per inch they lost. I started to working out and found that for the first 3-6 weeks I lost very little weight (10 lbs) but went down 2 sizes. It would make things a little more even for those that are not as big as the others.

I agree this "pure pounds lost" idea seems kinda unfair -- naturally the biggest you are, the more you have to lose, and therfore theorically have an advantage

agreed that the 'total pounds' competetion is totally unfair. Only 3 or 4 of the largest guys have a chance to win. But then the "competition" is really secondary, the show is really about putting a bunch of emotional freaks into an extremely streessful situation in order to get broadcast worthy reactions.

was a major bore. What is with the reality shows taking the p*ss out of everything with their frikkin cheesey recaps and finales. I agree that the pictures were great, but I would have rather seen the show. I missed the first few minutes, so maybe they had some good reason for boring us to tears with those smarmy clips and "insider" shots. good god. Anyway, I digress: I meant to say that I think it's a good idea to switch to body fat. Muscle does weigh more, and that should count for something.

15. "RE: Weight Loss By Percentage" |
I basically agree with what you've said, and I particularly like that you took the time to compile the tables. On the other hand, I think that the (network executives ?) changing the rules in the middle of the "game" took away a LOT of entertainment value for me. Instead of one complete and finished show, it feels like I've viewed a third of two separate shows, and not finished watching anything. (ie: Where's the real closure ?.....)But to get back to your point, I've got to ask how come the show was not strictly focused only on establishing who lost the highest percentage of original body FAT ? It would be more fair, and less (circus-y ?). (Personally, I thought the biggest loser just might be the (moderator ?)...) In the "long run", the biggest winner could just be the one who lost only a little weight during the show, but permanently changed their (behavior/habits/self-image), and continued to regularly lose additional (weight/fat/inches), while the (tv-types) just continue to get fatter and fatter (attitudes ?)....
