Yes, it's pretty bad for Danny. He sure took it hard. I remember when my father died suddenly a few years ago. We weren't even that close and we had lots of unresolved issues. But when he died I was a mess and lost almost 10 pounds from not eating. At the funeral I tried to talk to the minister and nothing came out of my mouth. I couldn't even talk. It was rough. Next week's RW show, with Danny at home and coping with burying his mother, goodness, that's going to be depressing.

Has anything like this ever happened on a RW or RR season?

I can't imagine. I live 1,500 miles away from my parents, but I'm very close to both of them. But my dad's getting close to 80, and my mother's close to 70, and since I'm only 26...well, I try not to think about it.

A kyngsladye/IceCat masterpiece.

Dave, sorry to hear about your dad. I hope things are easier for you to cope with today. I have a friend that lost his mother when she was 54 (it was sudden) and that has been almost 2 years ago. He is doing better but still has good days/bad days.

Libra, my parents are getting older as well and my dad has had 3 heart attacks. I know what you mean about the worrying.

Batts, I wonder if they got Danny's ok to air that footage of the phone call? Man, if I were Danny I would not want to watch this show because it has been one bad thing after another for the poor guy.

I really feel sorry for Danny. I'm glad that he got the chance to talk to his Mother before she died. She was so glad that he called. When she told Danny - "I love you" I wish that he would have said I love you too, Mom.

I think that it's odd that the RW camera crew will be at the funeral. I can't believe that his family allowed that.

That's what I was thinking too, of all the things in your life to want privacy for, I'd think your mother's funeral would be one of them. I'm sure this has been hard enough for him to re-watch on TV, and now he is going to re-live the whole thing in front of millions! (the show does have at least a milllion viewer's, right?)

I'm kind of surprised they showed this whole thing about his mother. I would have thought they could have been more sensitive about the whole thing and I think Danny should have requested that they not show any of this. Maybe he had no choice but the show's producers should know better, even if this does make for good television.

The thing we have to take into consideration is the contract Danny signed to do the show. If he is to come back from the funeral and remain in the house maybe MTV has the rights to his entire life period. I know that the housemates don't have anything to do with what is shown.

I think if they handle this the right way it could be a learning experience for young people.

13. "RE: The Real World Austin Episode 7 Discussion"
Well, this is supposed to be a reality show, and reality comes in good doses, bad doses, and alot of stuff in between. Though this whole funeral mess with Danny seems like a gross invasion of his privacy, it is - unfortunately - part of his reality. Showing this part of his life, though difficult, is perhaps the most real that the show can get. It would certainly be odd - if not contradictory - if the show would air hours upon hours of drinking and clowning around, but refuse to show the one aspect of their four months together which is more real than any other. I'm sure MTV asked permission to film Danny at home and maybe at his mother's funeral, but I still think that these episodes showing grief and the gross unfainess of life is what this show was initially all about. Death and sadness are a part of life. Sugar coating it prepares us for nothing. If we are to watch reality shows, then we should be ready to deal with how crummy reality can sometimes be. Well, it's just my opinion.

Thanks Vols and gang for saying nice things here about my late father.

I couldn't agree with you more and this is the stance that I have taken on a lot of the reality shows I watch. If the person agrees to be aired and show their life then things shouldn't be sugar coated to just show good stuff...there is bad stuff in life as well. JMHO!

I agree in principle about showing the good, the bad, the ugly. However, I still think more sensitivity should be shown when someone has suffered a loss, especially of a parent. I can't imagine how it must make him feel to have a camera stuck in his face the entire time, and a crew following him around when he is feeling so miserable. It can't be a good thing, no matter how real we want our reality shows to be.

20. "RE: The Real World Austin Episode 7 Discussion"
I'm looking forward to this next episode. Tuesday night might be very sad, but it will be interesting to see how Danny copes with this tragedy. What I mean is, we increasingly get to see the RW casts partying, carrying on, hooking up, and doing things that are either goofy, unimportant or downright stupid. Now we are finally (FINALLY!) getting to see real life situations. Rather than seeing alot of mugging for camera time, we might see real people dealing with real life problems.

And if Mel shirks her responsibility to help out Danny and be there for him in the clutch, well, that'll be pretty low. I just hope she doesn't go out and get plastered and hook up with someone else while Danny is home burying his mother. That would be pretty low.

One of the reasons I didn't come down on MTV for showing this is based on what you just said. At least they are showing real life situations and this is a first for the show. I hope this will help youngsters realize that there is more to life than drinking and getting laid.

I know death is one of those things that is tough and really hard to deal with but sooner or later we will all be faced with it in some form or fashion. I hope MTV deals with this the right way.
