The camera presents an overview of the Ogasawara island group.
Jeff (voice over): Previously on Survivor…Maria was confused about the change in votes.
(confessional) Becky: Whoever was in charge of telling Maria about the vote really dropped the ball.
Jeff (voice-over): At the reward challenge, players got a chance to answer questions about Japan’s history, with right answers giving them the right to eliminate opponents.
The camera shows several chops of ropes and two different names going up in flames.
Jeff (voice-over): Becky won the reward. The reward was the right to compete in another challenge, where her negotiating skills were put to the test.
Jeff: In front of you are 24 baskets. If you lift a basket up, you will reveal what’s under it. Some temptations will be for only you; some will be for you and those you select to join you. Remember, the worst reward here is a single heartnut; the best reward here is a two-night cruise for everyone.
Jeff (voice-over): Becky eliminated all but a steak and lobster dinner and the top prize; however, when she was offered surf and turf as well as a night’s house stay for every member of the tribe, she took it.
Becky: You’re all getting surf and turf!
Jeff (voice-over): The tribe enjoyed steak, lobster, and all kinds of extras, and everyone got a chance to put the game on the back burner.
Jeff: Good to get a gourmet meal, isn’t it?
Harriet: So what’s for dinner tomorrow night?
Jeff (voice-over): However, the next morning, the game was back on when the Survivors learned that their next immunity challenge was to be played in secret.
Paula: It says here that each of these envelopes contains questions about each of the castaways. Everyone gets one, and the one who answers the most questions correctly wins immunity.
Jeff (voice-over): Since the results were not going to be revealed until after the vote, everyone was fair game.
Paula (to Abdullah): So we vote Billy tonight.
(confessional) Maria: It’s time to split up Becky and Paula.
Jeff (voice-over): Billy’s plan did not go according to plan, though, as he received four votes.
Jeff: …the thirteenth person voted out of Survivor: Japan…Billy.
Jeff (voice-over): Billy had two chances to stay in the game. The immunity winner was to be revealed, but Billy’s name did not come up.
The camera shows Jeff taking the ballot out of the envelope; it has Abdullah’s name on it.
Jeff (voice-over): Billy also had an immunity idol he could play, and he did.
Jeff: Billy, you are safe from the vote. You may vote out any lady here except Harriet; she did not vote against you.
Jeff (voice-over): Billy stuck to his plan and voted out Paula.
Jeff (snuffing Paula’s torch): Paula, the tribe – and the idol – have spoken.
Jeff (voice-over): Five are left. Who will be voted out tonight?
The screen pans to shots of Japanese warriors in fierce battle, spliced with images of great ships and dojos. As pictures of gold coins and logos of “Survivor: Japan,” “Ronin,” and “Geisha,” begin to appear, the Survivor theme begins to play in the background while the castaways are shown in various outdoor images wearing their respective tribal buffs. This time, members of Minamoto are shown first in poses all seen in the first episode; the players appear in alphabetical order. Taira follows immediately, as does Fujiwara; each tribe’s members are shown in alphabetical order. The screen pans finally to a background of waves, ripples, and islands with the “Survivor: Japan” insignia superimposed over it.
At this point, the screen cuts to commercial.
Back from commercial.
Meiji, Night 33. Unlike at Tribal Council, Abdullah is wearing the immunity necklace.
Harriet (to Billy): Well, from here on out, it’s all on us.
Billy: If we stick together and get one more person, we’re in the final three for sure.
Harriet: Should we stage a fight to get attention off our alliance?
Billy: I’m working on Maria; I know she can be talked into getting Becky out.
(confessional) Harriet: When we merged, I knew our biggest threats were Charlie, Paula, and Becky. Paula’s the best leader I’ve ever seen, Charlie’s a force in challenges and a leader, and Becky can win any challenge if she puts her mind to it. Only Becky’s left, so even if we don’t like the circumstances, it’s two down and one to go.
The camera switches to Becky talking to Abdullah.
Becky: This time, Maria was with us.
Abdullah: It’s impossible to tell where she stands.
Becky: She votes with whoever she wants.
Abdullah: I hate to say it, but at this point in the game, we need her.
(confessional) Becky: When Kevin got voted off, Maria voted for Paula. Now that Paula got kicked off by the idol, Maria voted with us for Billy. On one hand, she went with us, but that could have been just to get the idol out. She knows that she and Abdullah aren’t targets and that I am.
Abdullah (to Maria): So are you with us or with Billy and Harriet?
Maria: I voted with you guys because I thought Billy needed to go. He’s too strong.
Abdullah: Do you think Becky’s too strong?
Maria: Anyone who’s stronger than me is too strong, but I see it this way. You can use their strength to your advantage. Right now, Becky’s the strong player, and you and I know that. If she goes, Billy’s the strong player. After that, you and I are pretty even.
(confessional) Abdullah: Maria didn’t really give me a simple straight answer. I think she’ll vote how she feels like voting. She’s probably a security risk.
The camera switches to Meiji, Day 34. Maria and Billy are talking with no one else around.
Maria (to Billy): The idol was throwing off the balance of the game. I didn’t vote against you to get you out; I voted against you to get that out.
Billy: What if I didn’t play it? What if I already did?
Maria: I knew you had it, and I knew you would play it. I knew you would take out Becky or Paula, too.
Billy: What are you, a mind reader?
Maria: Admit it, you do make yourself pretty easy to read.
(confessional) Billy: At this time, I was wondering what else Maria knew about me. Worse than that, I was wondering who she would tell.
Maria: How well I know you will be very important. Don’t forget that.
The camera switches to Nishino Shima, Day 34. All five remaining Survivors row in.
Jeff: Come on in, guys!
All five Survivors take their places.
Jeff: How do you guys feel about having a one in five shot at a million dollars?
Harriet: A little nervous. I also have a one in five chance of going home next.
Jeff: I never liked looking at it that way. I do think that you guys could benefit from looking back a little bit, and that’s what this challenge is all about. This challenge incorporates elements from previous challenges. You will see elements from both individual and group challenges; nothing here should be anything new. You will all start off by taking two sets of coordinates and digging in this large sand grid. Each set of coordinates is to a puzzle inside a cage; you must solve both puzzles. The first four to solve both puzzles move on to the next round.
The camera switches to a group of four fire rings.
Jeff: These fire rings are for building fires; there’s no other reason to have them. Each fire ring has a string attached to it; your object is to build a fire to burn through the string. The string releases an already assembled hook that you will use to lower a barrel. The barrel has a torch, and you can use your existing fire to light the torch and burn one of these three small bases. You can only use your own torch and your own fire to light a base. The first three Survivors with burning bases move on to the next round.
The camera switches to three balance beams and bags of weight.
Jeff: You guys all remember bearing weight and crossing balance beams. This time, you have to do both at the same time. Each of you has to carry fifteen percent of your body weight from before the show in bags across a balance beam without falling off. The beams are 40 feet in length. Once you get across, take the five balls and try to throw them into the goal. You will start off from only eight feet away; every time you get one in the net, you move back four feet and throw. If you miss, you will have to retrieve the balls you missed. The first two Survivors to put all five balls in their nets win reward. Wanna know what you’re playing for?
All five Survivors happily tell Jeff they want to know.
Jeff: A few days ago, a couple of you got tastes of home. Harriet, you got a phone call to your husband. If you win, you will do Harriet one better. The two reward winners will be taken to Kitanojima to spend the night with their loved ones. There will, once again, be food, soft drinks, cold beer, and nice beds. I imagine that some of you could get used to that. In addition, there will be one more surprise waiting for you at the resort. Worth playing for?
Harriet: I have a lot more catching up to do.
Jeff: I bet. Everyone take your spots; wait for my go.
All five Survivors grab their scrolls and get ready.
Jeff: Survivors ready? GO!
Each Survivor starts unrolling scrolls; some unroll both while others take only one and start looking in the grid.
Jeff: Some different strategies coming into play here. Remember, just don’t finish last.
Billy stops as a spot in the grid and starts digging frantically. Becky follows quickly.
Jeff: Billy and Becky think they have something! Remember, if you get a key, you can work the puzzle if you want to or you can wait and do them both at the same time!
Becky grabs something out of the ground and runs to her puzzle cage.
Jeff: Becky has a key! Get to that puzzle if you’re ready!
Billy follows quickly after, but he takes his key back with him and starts searching for his second clue.
Jeff: Billy waiting to do the puzzles later!
Maria and Abdullah get keys at the same time; Harriet appears frustrated.
Jeff: It’s a battle for third place! Harriet, don’t give up!
Abdullah reaches in and grabs a key; Billy is next to him digging as well.
Jeff: Abdullah has his first key! Billy working on his second!
Maria grabs her key and takes her other scroll and runs over to the spot she believes is correct.
Jeff: Maria wasting no time getting that other key!
Harriet has her head in the sand and almost has a key. Becky runs back and grabs her other scroll.
Jeff: Becky thinks she has her puzzle and is going for her next key!
Billy pulls his second key out and rushes over to his cages.
Jeff: Billy has it! All it takes are those puzzles!
Abdullah takes out his second key; Harriet is now working on her second.
Jeff: Abdullah has two keys! Go keep up with Billy! Harriet, don’t give up!
Becky grabs her second key and runs toward her cage.
Jeff: Becky can finish this off! Maria and Harriet, you’re fighting to stay in it!
Maria grabs her second key and unlocks her cage; Billy and Abdullah are working on their puzzles while Becky is starting on her second.
Jeff: Four people on puzzles! Harriet, don’t give up! Keep playing—wait, Becky says she has it!
Jeff runs over to check Becky’s work. He approves her first puzzle quickly and walks into her second cage, nodding in approval.
Jeff: Becky moving on! We still need three more people!
Abdullah places a few pieces in his puzzle and raises his hand.
Jeff: Abdullah says he’s finished!
Jeff runs over to check Abdullah’s work; this puzzle seems to go more quickly.
Jeff: Abdullah moving on!
Billy and Maria appear neck and neck on the second puzzle as Harriet unlocks her first puzzle.
Jeff: Billy and Maria, you have it if you don’t blow it! Harriet, work quickly!
Billy and Maria raise their hands at almost the same time.
Jeff: I saw Billy’s hand first. I’ll check Billy’s work first and then Maria’s.
Billy waits anxiously as Jeff looks over his work.
Jeff: Billy moving on! Maria, let’s see what you have.
Maria’s puzzle appears to have no flaws. The screen shows both puzzles.
Jeff: Maria moving on! We have our four! I’m sorry, Harriet, but you’re out.
Harriet: I got my phone call; I can’t be too mad.
The camera quickly switches to the fire rings.
Jeff: Remember to build the fire to the string. Survivors ready? GO!
All four players start grabbing small kindling and trying to light it with the supplied flint and steel. Maria and Abdullah have some larger wood as well; Becky and Billy are ignoring the larger wood.
Jeff: Again, different strategies! Let’s see how it all pans out! You need some bigger wood to get a bigger fire going!
Sparks appear by Becky’s fire, but they appear to be short-lived; Abdullah looks to be having better luck.
Jeff: Abdullah’s getting somewhere!
Billy seems to be getting some sparks as well, but they aren’t holding up.
Jeff: Billy getting a little bit, but remember, you need something bigger to catch fire!
Maria’s’ fire begins to catch on her bigger wood; at the same time, Abdullah’s fire is already going.
Jeff: Maria and Abdullah are out in front! Becky and Billy, get your fires to stay lit and you can stay alive!
A string starts to burn through; a pole falls. A hand reaches out to grab it; upon further review, this is Abdullah’s hand.
Jeff: Abdullah, get your torch!
Abdullah reaches to the barrel with his hook and brings it down; he grabs his torch and runs to his fire.
Jeff: That’s a strong enough fire, Abdullah! Maria, go get your torch, too!
Maria reaches her hook to her barrel; Abdullah get fire on his torch.
Jeff: Abdullah, burn that base!
Abdullah takes his fire to a base; it begins to burn.
Jeff: Abdullah moving on! Maria’s not far behind! Becky and Billy, keep working!
Billy gets a flame going; soon after, Becky appears to as well.
Another base begins to burn.
Jeff: Maria moving on! Billy’s onto something! So is Becky!
Becky’s fire is short lived; however, Billy gets his hook and starts pulling his barrel down.
Jeff: Becky, you’re on your last chance!
Becky half-heartedly tries to get her fire to start again; Billy lights his torch and burns a base.
Jeff: Billy moving on! Becky, your fire just didn’t stay lit; it’s as simple as that. You’ll be joining Harriet.
The camera then shows three balance beams and some sacks of weight.
Jeff: You have two sacks to carry across the balance beam; the bags total fifteen percent of your pre-show body weight. Survivors ready? GO!
Billy starts working slowly but falls off immediately; Abdullah and Maria get off to a better start.
Jeff: Billy, go back to start.
Abdullah appears to have a slight lead; Maria is on his tail.
Jeff: As long as you can get across, you can win it on goals.
The first to reach the other side is Maria; Abdullah is close behind while Billy is only halfway across.
Jeff: Maria, start throwing.
Abdullah lands quickly after Maria.
Jeff: Abdullah, start throwing.
Billy is getting close to the end while both Maria and Abdullah score from eight feet away. The goals conspicuously have metal bars across them in the shape of a letter X.
Jeff: Remember, every time you get one, go back four feet and shoot. Maria and Abdullah, you’re tied at one.
Billy reaches the end, drops his weight, and runs over to start throwing.
Jeff: Billy’s in it now. You have some ground to make up.
Maria throws from twelve feet and scores; Billy throws and immediately misses.
Jeff: Maria’s in the lead. Move back four feet.
Billy scores and moves back.
Jeff: Remember, once you score with a ball, it stays in the net. If you miss with it and you need to grab a ball to throw, you have to chase it down.
Billy and Abdullah each score goals and are tied with Maria until she scores quickly.
Jeff: Maria’s maintaining a narrow lead. Remember, the first to score five times win.
Maria runs out and grabs two balls. Billy follows suit with three balls.
Jeff: It’s time to start fetching balls, guys.
Abdullah goes after two balls, since he’s scored three times.
Jeff: Maria and Abdullah, you’re shooting from twenty feet; Billy, you’re shooting from sixteen.
Billy throws a perfect strike to the top shelf of the net.
Jeff: Billy, step back and keep going.
Maria throws and sees her ball bounce weakly into the goal.
Jeff: Remember, rolling the ball toward the goal is a bad idea, but a nice guided toss may work well. Maria, you’re down to your last ball and need only one goal.
Billy and Abdullah both score their fourth goals soon after as well.
Jeff: We’re all tied; Abdullah, you need to go chase your last ball.
Maria throws her ball underhanded; it bounces six times and into the goal.
Jeff: Maria wins reward! Billy and Abdullah, keep shooting!
A ball bounces into the right side of the net. The camera switches back to show Billy holding back his hands in anticipation.
Jeff: Billy wins reward!
Abdullah’s shot bounces wide, as Maria and Billy celebrate.
Jeff: Maria and Billy, from here you will be picked up to go to Kitanojima. Billy, your older sister Sandy will be waiting for you there. Maria, your best friend Laura will be there. For the rest of you, head on back to camp.
The camera shows Maria and Billy joyfully waling toward the motorboat to take them to Kitanojima as the screen cuts to commercial.
Back from commercial.
Meiji, Day 34. Becky, Abdullah, and Harriet are walking toward camp dejected.
Becky: It sure would have been nice to see my mom.
Harriet: I’m really glad I bought that phone call; I might have lost it without hearing from home.
Becky: What about you, Abdullah; who would you say would be here for you?
Abdullah: I don’t know. I would probably see my brother.
(confessional) Harriet: I had a lot to tell my husband if I saw him. I had a lot to tell my sons, if I saw one of them. I could have seen my annoying next door neighbor and I would have been happy; it didn’t matter to me.
Abdullah: I was so close, too. I could have tasted that visit.
Harriet: If only the surf and turf were for twelve instead of six.
Becky: No argument here.
(confessional) Abdullah: For me, it’s more about a break from the game than anything else. The game takes its toll on me both physically and mentally; any break I can get from it, I welcome. That and food.
The camera switches to Maria and Billy arriving at Kitanojima on Day 34. Jeff is there to meet them, but they don’t see their loved ones.
Jeff: Before we get to the reward, there’s one last order of business. You get a chance to run through another past challenge again. It’s the only one you played head-to-head as well. The two of you will try to logroll your way to victory; the first to win three times wins reward. This time, you’re playing for this.
Jeff dangles a car key in front of Maria and Billy.
Jeff: This is a 2008 Buick Rendezvous, and it’s fully loaded. It comes with a sun roof, an mp3 player, power everything, and it comes with both keyless entry and keyless ignition. Worth playing for?
Billy: Two words, Jeff - hell yeah.
(confessional) Maria: I was glad Billy wanted it; I valued my shot at winning the game.
The two Survivors line up on opposite ends of the log.
Jeff: Survivors ready? GO!
Billy: Remember, I won the first time.
Maria: That’s nice.
Maria spins the log quickly to her right; Billy falls off and Maria does not.
Jeff: Billy’s in the water! Maria’s up one match to none!
The two take their positions again.
Jeff: Survivors ready? GO!
This time, Maria starts spinning immediately; she loses her balance and falls in.
Jeff: Maria lost it and Billy tied it up at one!
The two take their spots again.
Jeff: Survivors ready? GO!
This match seems to take a little longer; first; Maria spins to her left but slows down, and Billy stays with her. Billy then stops the log, and Maria can’t hang on.
Jeff: Maria’s back in the water! Billy, this one can win it for you!
The two Survivors get back up take their spots.
Jeff: Survivors ready? GO!
Billy takes his spot on the log, and immediately, Maria slips and straddles the log.
Jeff: How are you going to get out of this one, Maria?
Billy: Like this—
Billy spins the log, and Maria can’t hang on.
Jeff: Maria’s back in the water! Billy wins the car!
Jeff tosses Billy the car keys while Maria gets herself out of the water.
Jeff: Before you go in, there’s a foyer with a shower where you can get cleaned up to see your loved ones.
The camera switches to a cleaned-up Billy and Maria walking in; Sandy, like Billy, is tall, dark-haired, and speaks with a noticeable Southern accent. Laura has long hair and tattoos and is scantily dressed, just like Maria.
While Maria and Laura are greeting each other, they appear to exchange kisses on the cheek.
Laura (with no discernable accent): So how hard is it out here?
Maria: It’s crazy. We didn’t get any food until we merged.
Laura: What is everyone like?
Maria: I didn’t get along too well with the lady we just voted off at first. She’s a fighter, though, and she came around.
(confessional) Laura: Even after all this time out here, she’s still the same old Maria. Really, she’s a lot like me; she never gives up and never takes any crap.
The camera switches to Billy and Sandy.
Billy: I’m in an alliance with a pathological liar.
Sandy: Can you trust her?
Billy: That’s how I stayed in the game. She screwed me on Day 6, but I’m glad she did. Everyone’s tried to get her out like crazy, and she never goes for it.
Sandy: Are you going to win?
Billy: I just won a car, so I can come back with something.
(confessional) Sandy: I watch this show, and no one ever wins the car and the game. My heart sank when he said he won the car, but at least he gets a car out of it.
(confessional) Billy: I got a car and I got to see my sister. Aside from that, if I make the final two with Harriet, no one’s voting for her and I win.
All four people are sitting around the table eating cheese, crackers, and sausage and drinking lemonade.
Maria: So Sandy, what do you do?
Sandy: I’m a software developer. It’s way different from this.
Maria: Wow. What kind of software do you write?
Sandy: I develop web sites for the state of North Carolina.
Maria: I wish I could do something like that.
(confessional) Maria: Everyone around me has a big, important job. I need to win this money to go back to school.
Sandy: So you took the MCAT?
Maria: I took it and I did really well, but medical school was hell.
Laura: Believe me; I went through it with her.
Maria: She saw me at my worst. She still does.
Laura: Every day, I see your best and your worst. I think you’re at your best here.
(confessional) Maria: Laura is absolutely my best friend; she has done more for me than I could ever ask. I don’t make much money, and she has always let me live with her. Now I can get some money and start repaying her.
The camera switches to Kitanojima, Night 34. Billy and Sandy are still talking, but this time, they are outside.
Maria and Laura emerge from one of the bedrooms giggling. Quickly, the camera picks up the fact that both of them are now completely naked.
Laura: This is just like old times. I could do this every day for the rest of my life.
Maria: There’s always been something missing without you here.
Laura: It’s not much better at home. I can have anyone over, but the life of the party is gone.
Maria: The party is coming back with lots of cash, though.
(confessional) Laura: Maria and I have been roommates since college, and we have always done everything together. We dated together, we partied together, and yes, we dressed together. We were always twins, and we were not about to stop that.
Billy: Oh my gosh, there’s two of them!
Sandy: Are you guys naked?
Billy: I guess this is a good time to tell you that Maria spends most of her time at camp naked.
Sandy: Is she always like this?
Maria: The answer to your question is yes.
Laura: Don’t look at me; she’s the one who got me started.
Maria: Not just you.
(confessional) Laura: When Maria was my college roommate, I noticed she did almost everything naked. Pretty soon, she got me to try it. I don’t know how she did, but she did, and I loved it. We’ve done everything naked since then, and I have to say, I absolutely love it.
Billy: If this is your strategy, it’s working.
Maria: Then would you like to see more?
(confessional) Maria: If getting Billy to do what I want means I take my clothes off and act naughty with my best friend, then so be it. We mess around like this all the time. We’re not gay or anything; we both date guys. Neither of us has met the right guy yet, though.
The camera switches to Billy and Sandy in their bedroom talking; the lights are still on.
Sandy: So who else is there? You have the pathological liar and the nudist, and I know you told me a bunch of people, but who’s left?
Billy: We have one guy from Iran; he’s a good guy. He brought a copy of the Muslim holy book as his luxury item. I tried to look at it and couldn’t make sense of it.
Sandy: Didn’t it have a part in English?
Billy: I looked; it didn’t.
Sandy: Was he counting on everyone else trying to speak Arabic?
Billy: I doubt it. I can’t hold it against him, though; he’s really cool.
Sandy: Isn’t there one other person?
Billy: Oh yeah, the basketball player.
Sandy: So there’s really a pro basketball player on your team?
Billy: Relax; it’s not Tracy McGrady or anything. She plays in the WNBA.
Sandy: So she’s almost famous.
Billy: She’s really tough, too. She was really close with a Navy guy who had a heart attack.
Sandy: Are you for real? Is he OK?
Billy: They keep telling us he is, but we haven’t seen him again.
Sandy: That’s really sad. Was he a good guy?
Billy: I did some things the night he head the heart attack I wish I hadn’t. Paula was trying to help him out, and I just yelled at her and wouldn’t help. I spent the evening shouting at another guy over a reward I won. I couldn’t enjoy my reward after that.
Sandy: I bet. Does anyone still hold that against you?
Billy: If they did, I wouldn’t be here.
The camera switches to Maria and Laura in their bedroom; the lights are off, and only a limited night-vision camera sees them. They are both under a sheet.
Maria: So who’s taking my place at home?
Laura: I have people over all the time, but it sucks. I’m mostly bored at home. All I do is go to work, come home, eat, and go to bed.
Maria: Don’t tell me you’ve taken to wearing clothes around the apartment.
Laura: Did I wear any here?
Maria: Good point.
(confessional) Laura: Maybe Billy and Sandy will get the wrong idea about two girls who are roommates sleeping together naked, but honestly, there’s nothing between us. Well, almost nothing…
Laura: I had one friend of a friend over who got on my case for everything I did.
Maria: I hear that. We had someone here who couldn’t leave me alone. He didn’t last long.
Laura: She didn’t like the way I cooked, the fact that I kept cold ones in the fridge…
Maria: All I know is that it’s going to be good to be home, and I’ll do anything I can to win.
The camera fades away as the two ladies drift off to sleep and the screen cuts to commercial.
WARNING: This episode contains scenes that may be unsuitable for some viewers. Some viewers may be offended. Discretion is advised.
Back from commercial.
Kitanojima, Day 35. All four people at the house wake up and come out for breakfast; predictably, Maria and Laura are still unclothed.
Sandy: So what did you two ladies do last night?
Laura: Probably the same thing you guys did. We talked for a long time, we slept, and we came out here.
Sandy: Really? That’s all?
Maria: What did you want us to say? We were conjuring demons and placing curses on everyone else?
Billy: Well, actually, just stay away from the two of us and we’re good.
Maria: No problem.
Sandy: So that was it; you just talked.
(confessional) Laura: So just because we’re naked and free-spirited, that means we’re gay? Someone needs a hobby if that’s all she can think about.
Billy: You know, the fact that you left your clothes out here does make us a little curious. If you don’t want people to ask questions, don’t do it.
Maria: I never knew you to have a problem with it.
Billy: I don’t; I just don’t come across nudists that often.
(confessional) Maria: Billy doesn’t know what to do with himself. I think I have an idea.
Laura: So really, what if we were doing something behind those doors? Are you just jealous you didn’t get to see anything?
Sandy: I can tell you, I know he is.
Billy: Oh, be quiet, Sandy; I don’t mind them at all.
(confessional) Sandy: Like a lot of guys, Billy definitely has a weakness for women. If Maria keeps putting these moves on him, he doesn’t have a chance; I hate to say it, but he’s history.
The camera shows the four beginning to part ways; Maria and Laura exchange a goodbye kiss on the lips. Still naked, the two are shown kissing from a distance.
Sandy: Are you guys using your tongues?
(confessional) Laura: You’re damn right we were. I didn’t have any trouble grabbing her ##### and tongue-wrestling with her if it got my girl a little farther in the game. And by the way, I told Maria to give details of what we were doing last night. Believe me, it’s definitely what you think it was.
Though blurred out, the two girls are kissing and grabbing each other while a stunned Sandy watches and Billy shyly looks.
(confessional) Billy: Well, I just lost it right there. There goes my concentration for the rest of the day.
(confessional) Maria: Now that Billy doesn’t have his idol, I’m pulling out everything to get him out, and if I have to kiss a hot girl to do it, then the only problem I have is that I had to stop. Laura’s the best kisser I know, and she’s a lot more than that.
The camera switches fairly suddenly to Nishino Shima, Day 36. All five Survivors row in on the tribe’s boat.
Jeff: Come on in, guys!
This time, Maria has her clothes on.
Jeff: Billy, Maria, how was it?
Billy: I had a lot of fun. My sister and I talked all evening, and the food was good.
Jeff: What about you, Maria?
Maria: I’ll have to tell you in private.
Jeff: OK then. Let’s get to today’s challenge. You will notice that there are seven tasks here. You won’t be doing them all. Instead, you will be challenging other people to do them. Here’s how it works. If you think you can do a challenge, tell everyone you can. If someone thinks they can do it better than you, they can say so. If no one thinks they can outdo you, you’re on. If you don’t do it, you’re out of the challenge. If you do it, you can eliminate another person, so if you think someone else can do the challenge, you might want to try to one-up them. The last person standing wins immunity. Also, if no one volunteers for a task, you will draw stones; whoever gets the black one has to challenge someone.
All five Survivors still stand on their mat.
Jeff: If you guys are ready, get busy.
Maria: I can build a fire pretty quickly. I’ll do it in ten minutes.
Harriet: I can’t top that.
Becky: I couldn’t get one going earlier.
Abdullah: I’ll let you have it.
Billy: I’ll do it in eight.
Maria: I’ll do it in seven.
Billy: I’ll do it in six.
Maria: I can get a fire going in five.
Billy: I’ll do it in four minutes.
Maria: Oh, hell; just do it.
Harriet: Good luck, Billy.
Becky: Have at it.
Abdullah: Four minutes? I’m out.
Jeff: Billy, you have four minutes to build a fire and burn through the string.
Billy takes his position by the fire.
Jeff: On your mark…GO!
Billy runs out and starts grabbing kindling and small shards with which to start a fire.
Jeff: Remember, you have to work quickly; if that fire doesn’t catch, you lose.
Billy tries to start a fire, but his sparks don’t catch.
Billy: I need better stuff. Why isn’t this catching?
Jeff: Get it to catch or you’re out.
Billy: I know.
Billy gets a fire going on a small scale.
Jeff: You have only a minute to get that to catch.
It stays burning but it doesn’t catch the sticks.
Jeff: Fifteen seconds. It’s going to be tough.
Billy’s fire starts to catch some small sticks, but it doesn’t rise to the string’s height.
Jeff: Time. That fire isn’t high enough. Billy, you’re out.
Billy throws down his flint and steel and walks off to the side.
Jeff: Well, the rule states that, since the fire building has been attempted, you can’t try that one again. You can pick any other task.
Harriet: I’m pretty good with a slingshot.
Becky: There are eight targets; do you think you can get them all?
Harriet: I’ll get five targets in eight shots.
Becky: OK, do it.
Maria: Go for it.
Abdullah: Have at it.
Jeff: Harriet, it looks like you need to knock out five targets in eight shots. Any target that shatters at any point counts as being hit, even if it’s just chipped. You have eight shots.
Harriet winds up her slingshot.
Jeff: Ready, aim, fire.
Harriet’s first shot falls short.
Jeff: That’s one shot and one miss. Ready, aim, fire.
Harriet misfires again, this time to the right.
Jeff: You can only miss one more time. Ready, aim, fire.
Harriet shatters the rightmost middle target.
Jeff: That counts. Four more hits out of five and you’re still alive. Ready, aim, fire.
Harriet shatters the top right target.
Jeff: That’s a good shot again. You might just pull this off. Ready, aim, fire.
Harriet shoots right down the middle, where there is no target.
Jeff: That’s a miss. You need to hit targets on your next three shots. Ready, aim, fire.
The top middle target appears to have a chip.
Jeff: That counts as a hit. You have two shots; you need a hit each time. Ready, aim, fire.
Harriet’s shot goes wild; it is not clear where it lands.
Jeff: That’s a miss; Harriet, you’re out. No one else can attempt the slingshot challenge.
Becky: I can hold my breath for a long time.
Maria: How long?
Becky: I’ll go 45 seconds.
Abdullah: Too easy. I’ll do a minute.
Becky: I can do a minute and 15 seconds.
Abdullah: That’s too hard for me.
Maria: I could never do that.
Jeff: Becky, swim out to the platform and get ready to go under.
Becky takes her spot at the platform.
Jeff: When I say to go under, the challenge start. You have to hold your breath underwater for 75 seconds; if you come up before that, you’re out. Three, two, one…go under.
Becky disappears under the water and does not come up.
Jeff: Becky will stay under for as long as she can; she will come up when she’s out of air regardless of when the time elapses.
The camera switches to an overview of the platform; Becky is still not up.
Jeff: Becky still has 30 seconds to go. If she does it, either Maria or Abdullah is out.
Becky continues not to surface.
Jeff: And the challenge is over in five, four, three, two, one…when Becky resurfaces, she will pick someone to be out.
Becky eventually resurfaces and slowly swims back to shore.
Jeff: Becky, you did it. You can take Abdullah or Maria out of the challenge.
Becky: I’ll take Abdullah out; sorry, dude.
Jeff: Becky will go against Maria in the final round. Either of you can start.
Maria: How many letters are in that phrase?
Jeff: Two words, one seven letters and one six.
Maria: I can get eight words out of that in a minute.
Becky: I can do ten.
Maria: I’ll do twelve.
Becky: OK, do it.
Jeff: Maria, you have one minute from my go to get twelve English words out of a phrase we pre-selected. You cannot use plurals, proper names, abbreviations, or words that repeat letters more often than the phrase.
Maria uncovers the table; she sees that the phrase is “Ancient Empire.”
Jeff: Ready, go.
Maria begins writing furiously; she notices she can only use three three-letter words and four four-letter words. She writes “PIE”, “ANT”, and “RAT” quickly. She moves on to four-letter words, including “CANE”, “TENT”, “TEEN”, and “PINE.”
Jeff: Maria making quick work of this. You have thirty seconds.
She writes down a five-letter word quickly; her list includes “NIECE” and “PRIME.”
Jeff: Time. Let’s see what you have.
Jeff looks over Maria’s work.
Jeff: All of these words have to be correct; you have exactly twelve.
The camera focuses on the word “CLIENT.”
Jeff: This word, “CLIENT.” It’s no good; there’s no L.
Maria: Damnit.
Jeff: That means Becky wins immunity!
Becky runs over to the necklace and waits for Jeff to put it on her.
Jeff: That means you’re in the final four. I can’t say the same for everyone else here; one of you will not be. Head on back.
The camera shows Maria’s frustration and Becky wearing the necklace as the screen cuts to commercial.
Back from commercial.
Meiji, Day 36. Becky still has the necklace on, and all the others jump off the boat.
Becky (to Abdullah): So the target is Billy or Harriet?
Abdullah: Harriet won’t win a challenge. Now that the idol’s out, we go after Billy.
Becky: I thought so, but I wanted to make sure.
Abdullah: Should we get Maria in on this?
Becky: We need three.
(confessional) Abdullah: Maria told me about Billy winning the car. It’s nothing personal, but it’s a good reason to get Billy out.
The camera switches to Billy and Harriet chatting.
Harriet: So I guess we go after Abdullah?
Billy: Now that Becky has immunity.
Harriet: Will Maria go for it?
Billy: I think so; we talked about it, and I think she’s on our side.
(confessional) Harriet: Since that family visit, Billy hasn’t really been all there. He won a car and saw a couple of naked girls, so I guess he thinks his work here is done. If he thinks his work’s done, I’m in trouble.
The camera switches to Becky talking to Maria.
Becky: So are you working with Billy?
Maria: I’m with you guys, but I want Billy and Harriet to think I’m with them.
Becky: That’s a good idea; if I can’t keep Paula around, then Harriet can’t keep Billy around.
(confessional) Maria: I’m doing everything I can to throw people off. With Harriet, I’m convincing her I’m on her side and want to get Becky out as soon as possible. With Billy, I’m filling his head with everything I can. I’ll tell him every last detail of what I did with Laura if it gets him thinking I’m on his side.
Harriet (to Billy): What if we convince someone to get Maria out?
Billy: Why’s that?
Harriet: She’s too tight with everyone; she’s a threat. She can waltz into the finals.
Billy: I’ll only say one thing. If she’s around, she’s going to do anything she can to keep me from focusing. All I can picture when I look at her now is two nights ago.
Harriet: Why, because her friend was naked too?
Billy: It was more than that. She told me every detail of what they did when they closed their bedroom door.
Harriet: They didn’t do any of that.
Billy: You didn’t see their goodbye kiss, did you?
Harriet: No, but what does that mean?
(confessional) Billy: I need to get Maria out for my own sanity. That and Harriet doesn’t believe me that she’s trying to f--- with my head.
Billy (to Abdullah): So we’re looking at getting Maria out.
Abdullah: Maria?
Billy: If Maria or Becky makes the final two, none of us has a chance.
Abdullah: I think you and I can both beat Maria.
Billy: I wouldn’t take that risk.
The camera switches to Tribal Council, Night 36. The last five Meiji walk into Tribal Council.
Jeff: We will now bring in the jury. Loretta, Kevin, and Paula voted out at the last Tribal Council.
All three jurors file in.
Jeff: There’s one more thing.
The camera switches to the jury’s entrance.
Jeff: Come on in, Charlie!
Charlie enters with a slight limp, walking with a cane. Both the players and the jury applaud, whistle, and shout for joy as Charlie enters.
Jeff: Charlie’s healthy enough to be on the jury. He has seen the last two Tribal Councils on video. He will be voting for a winner.
Jeff takes a seat facing the five Survivors.
Jeff: So I asked briefly, but Billy, what was the visit from your sister like?
Billy: My sister and I have always been close. She’s four years older than me, and she’s the successful one, but I could always go to her for anything. She was a confidant for me when I don’t know how many people I can trust out here.
Jeff: That’s a good assumption. Maria, was Laura the same way for you?
Maria: I can’t really discuss what Laura and I talked about.
Jeff: Why not?
Maria: I don’t think Charlie’s heart can take it.
The jury laughs at this; even Charlie chuckles a bit.
Jeff: I won’t pry in that case. I do know that both of you can be considered targets.
Billy: What makes you say that?
Jeff: Neither of you have immunity. You could both be voted out.
Maria: All I can do is make sure everyone’s on the same page as I am.
Billy: You play a very psychological game. You try to get in people’s heads.
Maria: Is it working?
Billy: A little too well.
Jeff: Maria, is that a hostile strategy?
Maria: You use what you have.
Jeff: Harriet, what do you have in this?
Harriet: A vote and a prayer. God only knows I can’t win a challenge.
Jeff: You haven’t won one yet. Abdullah, you won the last challenge, but you were also the only one not to take part in a task at the immunity challenge.
Abdullah: I was hoping everyone would fail and I would get immunity by default.
Jeff: So when Becky succeeded, that threw off your plan.
Abdullah: I didn’t see that coming.
Jeff: It’s a risk you take. Now Becky, this is your second challenge win. What does that say about you?
Becky: If I don’t keep winning, I won’t make the final two. No one wants to play me in a challenge.
Jeff: That may be, but are you smart to say that in front of everyone?
Becky: Only because Charlie isn’t here to win them.
Jeff: Good point. Now remember, you cannot vote for Becky; everyone else is fair game. It is time to vote. Billy, you’re up.
Billy gets up the vote; he writes down Maria’s name.
Billy (into vote camera): After the game, you can tell me those stories all you want, but for now, I need you gone.
The next to vote is Becky; her vote is not shown.
After Becky, Harriet votes; she, too, votes for Maria.
Harriet (into vote camera): I don’t know what you did to Billy, but if you’re that powerful, you’re too powerful.
Maria votes after Harriet; she votes for Billy.
Maria (into vote camera): This is an individual game. This also means Harriet doesn’t have anyone to fall back on.
The last to vote is Abdullah; his vote is not shown, but his speech is heard.
Abdullah (into vote camera): I hate to be the swing vote, but it’s decisions like these that force it on me.
Abdullah sits back down as Jeff gets up.
Jeff: I’ll go tally the votes.
Jeff goes to get the vote urn; he returns shortly.
Jeff: Once the votes are read, the decision is final; the person voted out will be asked to leave the Tribal Council area immediately. I’ll read the votes.
Jeff opens the urn.
Jeff: First vote…Billy.
Billy: What did I do?
Jeff: …Maria. One vote Maria, one vote Billy.
Jeff unfolds another vote.
Jeff: …Maria. Two votes Maria.
The next vote is revealed.
Jeff: …Billy. That’s two votes Billy, two votes Maria, one vote left.
Jeff reaches into the urn.
He takes out a vote.
The camera pans outward and then back inward.
Jeff: Last vote…the fourteenth person voted out of Survivor: Japan…
The camera shows Billy and Maria side by side.
Jeff: …Billy. That’s three votes; you need to bring me your torch.
Billy, still with a confused look on his face, grabs his torch and puts it in the holder.
Jeff: Billy, the tribe has spoken.
Jeff snuffs Billy’s torch.
Jeff: Abdullah, Becky, Harriet, and Maria, you are the Final Four. Over the next three days, you will be back here three times and compete in two individual immunity challenges. On the last day, two of you will join the jury in voting for a winner. Grab your torches; head back to camp. Goodnight.
The five remaining Meiji are shown walking out with lit torches; at this point, the screen credits begin to roll.
Cut to commercial and input from corporate sponsors.
Back from commercial.
Jeff (voice-over): On a special two-hour season finale of Survivor…the last two challenges prove to be the most difficult yet.
Harriet: How the hell am I going to do this?
Jeff (voice-over): The last Tribal Councils are the most important.
Becky: It’s hard to make people understand why it’s in their best interest to keep me around.
Jeff (voice-over): And one person will win one million dollars.
The camera pans to some of Survivor’s sponsors before switching to Billy.
Billy (final words): I think I lost for a few reasons. I lost because people knew I was close to Harriet. I lost because I won that car and no one wanted to give me the million dollars. Most of all, I lost my focus because I got outplayed. It’s really that simple. Harriet, I wish you the best, and I hope you go all the way.
3 votes Billy: Abdullah, Becky, Maria
2 votes Maria: Billy, Harriet
