1. "RE: Feb 15th Episode"
The episode was very powerful and moving dealing with the chaos and trauma of a tragic situation and the personal effect it has on the survivors, but the whole Meredith storyline felt lame, fake and totally unrealistic.

If the next episode keeps going in the direction it is heading from the ending of tonight and the previews, this show has just jumped the shark for me. The “campy” near death experience is just too much. Only into the third season and they had to use this story line… the writers/creators have run out of ideas already. (sad)

Well I totally disagree. I thought the whole story line was terrific. I cried when McSteamy went and sat beside Derek and supported him. Izzies speech was fantastic and when she hugged Christina it was truly a great moment. Izzie is finally back and I'm liking it. I can't wait for it to be Thursday so I can see what happens next.

I may be dating myself but did anyone else have a St. Elsewhere flashback at the end. Remember the episode where Howie Mandel was shot and went to some type of garden party with deceased patients? Then, through heroic measures, was brought back just as he accepted the idea of death?

Last night's show actually bugged me in many ways.

- showing 5 seconds of the Meredith story before every commercial. Okay, that was for drama, but it bugged me.
- Derek doing the CPR on the way to the hospital. He is a doctor, but I think it is pretty common knowledge, that in an emergency an EMT would be better trained to do CPR than a surgeon. Plus Derek had just come out of the freezing water also, and the emergency workers would have tended to him also.
- Izzie getting paged in the middle of surgery, and leaving! C'mon, she wasn't going to help Meredith, so why not finish the surgery? Just cause they needed someone to do the rant at the end of the show??
- George spending the whole episode looking for a boy, and Bailey's comments to him. Aren't they supposed to save lives first, and worry about identification and reunions later??
- Similarly Alex spending most of the ep trying to identify patients. What if he had turned to the crowd and said "I can either work on a list for you, or go save lives. Your call."
- And what's with all the doctors standing around in the hall when Meredith is being worked on? Were all the other ferry boat casualties suddenly gone?

I like Grey's Anatomy. I really do. DW and I look forward to it each week. But last night I found myself wearing my "Geggy Goggles". Too many stretches from reality.

Absolutely, GA got so many typical things wrong. Doctors would not be looking for patients, the admitting department and business office people would.

Doctors are doctors....they would not be taking pictures of victims, they would be working on them, and following up on their care. They would be so darn busy with important stuff, that paperwork would not be it.

Disappointed in this one, but still enjoyed the show.

Glad Izzie is back!!!!!!!!

Holy Moly!! I loved the episode last night!!

I come here (to the message board), and I almost like the episode less after reading all of your comments!! I guess I didn't read into the episode that much.

ETA: BYOFFER - you really made some good points. I actually went back and re-read what you wrote and you are so right. I hardly caught any of that!

I thought George's comment to Bailey, in regards to the woman looking for her son, was great - "if my lie just saved her life, I'm fine with that".

I thought it was awesome how Karev came up with a way to identify patients and give people the answers they needed. I TOTALLY have a new found crush on Karev. I always liked him, but now I REALLY REALLY like him.

I did NOT like that little girl who wouldn't talk. Creepy.

I thought it was an awesome show last night. In a strange way, I wish they would kill off Merideth.

GRRRRRRR!

I know I said this show had jumped the shark weeks ago and vowed I wouldn't watch again. But, stupidly, I watched last night after being sucked in by the promos that I'd be watching something profound.

Well, I'm back out and for good this time for sure. Everything you enumerated there, ByO, is why. This show is hereby my nominee for "Stupidest Show on TV." And, considering that it has now replaced I Love New York for that honor, that's saying something.

I can't believe people watch this in prime time or that Sandra Oh hasn't just quit in protest of the stupidity. I don't expect much from a daytime soap in the way of a semblance of reality, but I do expect a bit more from a prime time show that does not bill itself as fantasy, science fiction, or prime time soap. The lack of any semblance of even a trace of reality has become ludicrous.

And, with that, I bow out of the thread so I don't make all the fans here hate me.

Yup, I'm with you on almost all points. My DH keeps screaming for "Yang's Anatomy" and I keep saying..nah..there is no way they will let Meridith die...they'll just emotionally manipulate us to make us cry for this "very special episode".

I am glad Izzy is back..but it really pisses me off that she keeps dissing Callie.

And yes, the doctors just running around the looking for children and people instead of savings lives...bizarre.

It does remind me of when I watch a movie and start complaining about how stupid or unrealistic it is and my DH always has to lean over and say "suspend reality" with his knowing wink...

So, yeah, I still am watching it and enjoy it, but I really hate when they do these "very special episodes" as I feel like i am supposed to be watching an after-school special!

I can't say that all of what you said did not bug me at all. Plus you forgot Miss Perky Doc just sitting in the clinic offering hugs during a time when all hands should be on deck. Plus having the Chief and McSteaming not doing something so they can walk Izzy threw drilling holes. When does Callie who is a Ortho surgeon do spinal surgery with no one else there?

Hey...you have 100's hurt and dieing.....so like you I was WTF....but they did not go for the total chaos like ER does but I knew they were going over board with a 3 parter and kind of expected it.

They just went threw a big death with Gorges dad...they did not need to go here so soon and I think the writers/producers are trying to top the last episode and if they keep it up they'll lose out why they are on top like Lost did.

Why did they not open up Meridith and warm her from the inside like I've seen done on other shows (ER - who did everything by the book in the beginning). I know cold water can save drowning people but the other problem I had is that Meridith was not knocked that far from the pier and did not bump her head so why not swim to the spot that Derek walked up with her. She did not have heavy clothes on on tennis shoes so that should have been easy even in cold water like that.

Yes, I cried but like you the more I thought about it the more disappointed I was with the episode but it was neat to see Denny and Bomb guy but then I went DOH!

One of the biggest things that all show need to do is keep it real unless its scifi...espeical war moves.

I guess we'll have to wait 2 weeks for the show to get back on track I hope.

I agree with Byoffer and others. Last night's episode was totally unrealistic in so many ways. I thought it was awful. The thing that was bugging me most was the way they drew the whole Meredith thing out. And I know that they are not going to have her die, and that will be absolutely ridiculous. She drowned. She was in the water, for what? At least 20 minutes. And they tried to revive her for like what? Another 20 minutes. SHE.IS.DEAD. And if they find some miracle way to bring her back to life, I think I'm done with this show. Totally awful. Grrrr.

I hated that little girl who wouldn't talk, or tell anyone that Meredith fell in the water. I wanted to punt her in the water and then maybe she'd start talking. Or at least screaming. Ugh.

And if they find some miracle way to bring her back to life

My guess is that they will say that the cold water "saved her life" by slowing down her body metabolism. Didn't you see her shiver (once) before she went down?? And while there are documented cases of this slow metabolism saving happening, I believe they all involve arctic-cold water, not Seattle Harbor water. I suspect that Seattle Harbor actually doesn't get very cold.

From what I remember of a lecture on coldwater drowning our clinic went to many moons ago, 70 degrees F is considered coldwater drowning. There have been a couple of cases that the victim has been resuscitated up to 1 hr after drowning, of course that was in very cold water.

There are probably cases on the net, I'm just too lazy to look up.

So.... to all you Meredith haters

Still loving all things GA. I personally don't care if a show jumps the shark every once in a while. I usually watch tv to escape reality. Love me some mindless dribble!

K. I read the writer's blog about the episode. Did I miss something?

Meredith being dead is about…well, you will see what it is about next week. She was in pain, this girl. And…

…okay, I don’t want to talk about that. Meredith being dead at the end of this episode. I can’t. Not yet.

Was that supposed to tell me anything? *confused*

FTR, I am not a Meredith hater. The only reason I want her to be dead is because she was not breathing for at least 40 minutes! I don't mind a break from reality every once in awhile, but when something like this happens that I think is totally ridiculous, it makes me lose respect for the show, ya know?

But I'm trying not to get all bent out of shape just yet. Hey, maybe she is actually dead, and it won't be a ridiculous storyline at all. I will wait and see what the next episode brings.

Now, I’m really worried about her because she’s in the water and I want to be clear with you: I don’t put people in the water for no reason. Meredith’s got issues, she’s got serious Mommy issues and she’s broken and she’s in the water.

I killed Denny. I blew up Dylan.

I’m not entirely playing by the rules of TV here.

There’s a point. And it’s coming. Shoots With A Script and I have our fingers and toes crossed that it works.

Because what happens next…well, just wait and see…

I'll wait and see if it works. I have faith in my Grey writers.

They basically said the same thing in the Podcast.....Merideth has had all this drama in her life and then she finally gets the fairy tail relationship with Derek but does not know how to live with it....or how to keep it in the fairy tail.....relationships are hard and they are not always in fairy tail mode for the rest of your life. It takes work and Derek provide the week before that even after a fight he is not running away like others did in her past. She now needs to figure out how to deal with that thus why she was trying to force herself to be happy in the past few episodes.

I see where and why they are going and they did a good job because it hit home in so many ways but after thinking about it all the other mistakes/improbabilities it's lessen the show just a bit....not much....just a bit.

I’m a little late to the party but I didn’t watch the show until yesterday afternoon. That itself is telling. I still enjoy GA, but it’s not must see TV for me.

The first half of the show was great: Izzy drilling a hole in the guys head, Alex managing the victim’s families, the friendship between Derek and Burke (you don’t see that often between men on TV).

The second half of the show was so far-fetched that I thought it was ridiculous. I was okay with Derek doing CPR on Meredith. I could see his character insisting on doing it over an EMT. However, Izzy leaving the OR after she is finally cleared to operate again was totally implausible! Also hated the whole scene where she told George that he had made a mistake marrying Callie. That is not how friends act. The scene with Meredith in the OR was so over done. And the ending – there is no way she’s dead (although it was nice to see cutie Kyle Chandler again). She’s in the tunnel and someone, probably Derek, will pull her back to life. I agree with Hobbs, let’s get this last part over with get back on track.

if they find some miracle way to bring her back to life, I think I'm done with this show.

Uh oh. I was just checking out the tv listings for tonight, when I noticed that the episode of Grey's tonight is called Some Kind of Miracle.

*snort*

I went over the tapes of the last episode, and even played some of them backwards.

I took reflected images off of the waves, and pieced literally thousands of them together to build an image.

I used computerized image cleaning software (the same tools they use on CSI!) and finally got a clear image.

I think you will agree that this shows what really did save Meredith...

She's been without oxygen for 161 hours now, give or take. Of course she's not dead! Don't be silly.
