J Bug dear, I am so sorry the autumn has brought you some darkness. I know you are a woman of strong faith so I wish you to keep your faith strong. I read about your dad last night and I was going to send you a PM expressing my condolences. In the mean time, I wish I could offer you some insight on Parkinsons. My only suggestion might be to ask this new doc for some reliable websites and books. My thoughts and prayers will be with you.

Hugs to you and DH,We are going through the same thing with my Dad so any info you find, could you pass along? I would really appreciate it. My dad has what is known as Parkinson's face that developed gradually so we all didn't really see it. Recently he started dropping things without noticing. He shuffles instead of walking. No shakes as of yet and since we are just starting to look into this, the doctors haven't said one way or another if it is or isn't Parkinsons. He has many doctor appt's scheduled in the next week or two. I'll pass on any info I hear about. My mother has a form of the shakes that is hereditary but relatively benign. In her "I'd rather laugh than cry" attitude, she figures the two of them are going to be doing a lot of cleaning up from now on - gads I love that woman.

I have familial tremors, same as the essential tremors but they run in people in my family. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/MEDLINEPLUS/ency/article/000763.htmFortunately, I have a doctor who has the tremors too. He's been my salvation. I noticed them first when I was about thirteen, stress and caffeine make them worse. I didn't go see my doctor until about ten years ago when my boyfriend at the time gave me a necklace. I was trying to fasten it when I dropped it down the sink due to my tremors. IT'S NOT PARKISONS, and IT'S NOT A "FORM" OF PARKISONS....aside from the fact it is neurological. Who is giving you this information? Sheesh. I can tell you about what I take if you PM me. Mine are not very noticeable without the medication unless you are looking for them, but it sounds as if your husbands' would require different or stronger medication than mine. Your husband is not alone....there are a lot of us out there with the tremors. *hugs* I don't really talk about it with people, but for you...I will.

My MIL has had tremors in her hands for years, but it is not Parkinson's, because it has not progressed. DH has it to a small degree, too, but it's not too noticeable. It sounds like your DH may have Parkinson's. From what I've heard from a friend who had it, they don't really have a definitive test to prove you have it. Hang in there. I know it must be tough to deal with this development. {{{{Hugs}}}} Tribe, 2006

LAST EDITED ON 11-09-08 AT 02:27 AM (EST)Hey Jbug, It's very hard talking about this, even after almost 19 years! My Dad was about 60 years old when he first developed tremors. It started off in his hands, arms, then his legs. My Dad suffered for about 4 years until his death at the age of 64. Noooooo...he died from complications due to pneumonia. My Dad was the type of person who was very active. He participated alot in team sports such bowling and basketball. He did alot of gardening growing our food. He had a desk job working for local government. He was a good husband and was a great father to his 5 kids. He started to notice the tremors. At the time, I don't even think they called it tremors. It wasn't Parkinsons. It was more like a mystery. Neurologist after neurologist, everyone was stumped. Desperate, he started consulting witch doctors. Coming from my family, it was the sort of thing that wasn't unusual. On March 3, 1990 he died of pneumonia. Coming from a very superstitious family, we thought my Dad was cursed. Long story short, my Grandmother thought my Dad was cheating on my Mom, blah blah blah...heck, just found out 19 years later that he DID NOT cheat. Anyways, back on topic here. Jbug...I would be very interested to know what you find out about concerning your DH. My advice to you? Keep looking and above all, RESEARCH. EP: Sounds like hogwash saying it might be a form or a part of Parkinsons. Look for another doctor. Heck, try to find one who deals alot of with the tremors. I know my Dad has passed on, but I still want to know WHY. EP: In the LAST paragraph.

*raises shaky paw*I have essential tremor. I diagnosed myself a few years ago, and doc confirmed it, but I didn't go on any meds because it isn't debilitating or progressive. It runs in the family. My aunt had it. We used to joke that she got so much knitting done because she could just pick up the knitting needles and sit there for awhile and one of us would end up with a lovely sweater. She ended up dying at 58 of lung cancer. My tremor is noticeable when I have to hold an object (weight of object is irrelevant) away from my body with my elbow bent. Then I start to shake. What's really maddening is that I researched it because of the flack I was taking at work. People used to *whisper* *whisper* about whether or not I was hung over. So, in a way, it was nice to finally have a name for my shakes. That is really the main debilitating factor of essential tremor: the social impact. People look at you funny and they think you're nervous or hung over or something. It can be very embarrassing for something that's so benign. I don't drink tea or coffee from a cup/saucer duo. A mug is okay because you can't hear it shaking. That sound of a cup on a saucer causes stares and snickers. My tremors have never gotten worse or better, and it's never spread to anywhere else on my body. Be careful doing web research on health matters. I've declared myself dead many times over thanks to Google. Is there any *test* for Parkinson's? Wouldn't the CT pick it up? I'm sending good vibes to you, Bug. You have good reason to worry about all the people around you but please don't forget to take care of yourself, too. *hugs* Perpetual *headbutt* compliments of Rolly.
