No, this is not another thresd about Jonathon/Victoria. I was just wondering about being able to call home to family during the race. I remember from TAR1 that after a particular challenge, teams could call home on provided cell phones. I don't remember seeing this particular reward since. I just want to know if there are any rules prohibiting calling home, say, collect. Tell me what you need, and I'll tell you how to get along without it.

It may have been TAR2 but that really doesn't matter. I think that it was sponsor related. Also since TAR has become more popular, the production team doesn't want to give any chance for spoilers to get out.

That was from TAR3. I'm not sure why they haven't done it since, other than the obvious (no sponsor).
I rather doubt that the racers can make unsupervised calls - collect or not - to home, because of spoilerage and such. There are probably arrangements in case of emergencies on both ends, but I don't know the details.
