PLEASE NOTE: The Reality TV World Message Boards are filled with desperate
attention-seekers pretending to be one big happy PG/PG13-rated family. Don't
be fooled. Trying to get everyone to agree with you is like herding cats,
but intolerance for other viewpoints is NOT welcome and respect for other
posters IS required at all times. Jump in and play, and you'll soon find out
how easy it is to fit in, but save your drama for your mama. All members are
encouraged to read the
complete guidelines.
As entertainment critic Roger
Ebert once said, "If you disagree with something I write, tell me so, argue
with me, correct me--but don't tell me to shut up. That's not the American way."

Close, very close. syren's light
I looked up the answers (after guessing on all of them) with a little googling and I scored 4/10. This isn't amongst the best of the riddles, kind of interpretive, but you're on the right track.

I didn't like leaves as an answer for #1 because, well, you don't generally walk *on* living leaves. You might walk *through* them, but then they usually do make some kind of noise.Grass, at least relatively short grass, is quiet when walked on, while dead dry grass (hay) makes noise.

Eh, you do walk on them in the fall. They're walked on as in stepped on (while also being applied to "stepped through"). I have no problem with leaves being the answer here. Leaves have a more distinct rustling sound when dry than hay does, at least from what it feels like to my feet.

Yeah, I like your word 'rustle' instead of the puzzle's 'mutter and grumble'. We have a lot of maple and oak leaves here in the fall, and I love the sound (and smell!) of them.

Walking ON them, they're already dead. While still living (and quiet), they're still attached to trees.
