Estee 57126 desperate attention whore postings DAW Level: "Playboy Centerfold" 10-25-07, 11:58 AM (EST) "The new Mole season begins..." New cast. New host. New locations. New betrayals. Starting now, only on RTVW, in the Story Competitions forum from now until the final knife is planted. Right now, the first part of the Prologue is up, with two more to come over the next day or two: cast introductions, basically. (Since I'm not going with first-person this time, everyone needs a few minutes to say hello on their own.) Once that's done, we'll swing into the game itself. (Feel free to start any PTTE game or other such activities as soon as the opening credits stop rolling.) After that, new episodes will be posted every so often. No, there's no schedule here. I'll try for something new every couple of weeks, but the best way to break a timetable is to promise one. Anywho, I'm curious - if Survivor's easy to do, and TAR is the equivalent of removing your own appendix, how does The Mole stack up in terms of difficulty? (You're right about TAR needing a lot of research - it's all locations, tasks, and culture; there's very little social game to fill in the gaps.) Anywho, Angela's the Mo...damnit, wrong season again. LAST EDITED ON 10-25-07 AT 08:39 PM (EST) The Mole is NOT from Ann Arbor, MI. Given that we don't even have anyone from Michigan in this cast, I'd call that a pretty safe bet. (The leading state in the hometown category is California -- with two.) I'd say that for research, this show is mid-level: you need to know a bit about the locations if you're having them travel, but culture isn't quite as much of an issue and travel time only comes into play if you really want it to. Other aspects are harder. Survivor is difficult in a couple of ways, all of which you're familiar with: there's a lot of characters, it's a very social game with a ton of interaction... And this show has its own fundamental problem: at its heart on a very basic level, it's a mystery. That comes with its own set of headaches. "Season on indefinite hiatus." *sigh* I'm saying that because I don't want to say 'canceled' for at least another week. Some of y'all might remember my recent computer problems. Well, the replacement motherboard arrived. And was installed. And, as it turns out, does exactly nothing. The problem may still be the motherboard, because the new one may be defective. Or it could be something else which can't be diagnosed at this time. What the problem is not would be fixable any time soon, with an option for 'ever'. So my system is dead, possibly beyond all hope of resurrection, and the subbox I'm using now can't run anything more sophisticated than Notepad without a risk of bluescreening every two minutes or so. So I can't write. And I apparently may not be able to write until a new year dawns. One with a '4' in it. Series suspended. And, as a special bonus, someone gets the Reunion transcript for Sunday's Survivor, because while I could possibly try to do that in Notepad, I'm not confident it'll hold up that long. Can I get a volunteer for that? Anyone? So it goes...   Top

Kircon took it yesterday: second summary I've lost to computer problems. Maybe I can make it a trio during No-Stars. My computer could be prospectively repaired by next month. Or never. Or tomorrow. Repair-wise, it's at the point of where, if I'd sent it to the Geek Squad, I'd be hearing 'All right, we have absolutely verified that something is wrong with the system. It's definitely broken. You know, usually we just figure that the customer is stupid and one quick flip of a switch will fix everything, but your computer? Is actually busted. Congratulations!' Since the new motherboard is very much under warranty, it's going back to the manufacturer: if the part is defective, it'll be replaced. At this point, it could be the BIOS chip. Or the mainline CPU. Or sunspots. Feh.   Top

We just wound up pulling a bucket from the same river, which isn't the most uncommon writing experience. The reality genre as a whole was overdue for one good solid dose of classic punk: two probably won't kill it. In Erin's case -- well, to paraquote a singer she may or may not have heard of, she'd like to be known as the angry young woman. The image she's shown the cast to date is of someone who's out to ##### off as many people as humanly possible by any means necessary: the Special Forces of raw annoyance (on up). She's not stupid -- but as has been previously noted, the more intelligent you are, the more you can talk yourself into.   Top

Punk's roots are older than you might think and multi-layered: as Erin observes, you can get a good start in Whitechapel by visiting the Factories. (A lot of the early movement was British in origin.) Once it hit the States, it spread quickly -- like rap, it's mainly a city phenomenon -- but if you wanted to make a pilgrimage, the former site of CBGB in Manhattan would be a really good choice. Punk is to grunge as Futurama is to the Simpsons: they share common roots, but went in very different directions.   Top

Not sure yet who to root for (I assume that, like S:SI and TARX, the boot order is pre-determined) but I actually think I'm starting to root for Erin, at least as much as I can root for a crazy, hate-filled semi-psychotic bitch. I wonder if you had a lot of fun developing Erin's character - some characters are just more fun to develop than others. As I mentioned above, it seems that her TARX counterpoint is Spike, who, so far, is loads of fun. (I'm not seeing all the same things in Erin as I have in Spike - she doesn't seem to have the same addictive personality, for one, but the difficulty in socialization and the seemingly maverick persona are there.) As for the DAW Chorus...well, I can do bloggers a lot better than I can a regular DAW Chorus, but I might see what I can cook up.   Top
