Self-indulgent "I'm sure you're interested" explanation:
5/30: a day later than I promised my folks, I finally had all of my possessions packed out of my apartment last tuesday (mind you, a day AFTER all my furniture was moved into storage- I slept on my absolutely filthy floor) and drove-drove-drove from 6pm until nearly 10:30pm (potty breaks were involved), finally arriving in NY to collapse into my bed.
5/31: at JFK airport by 3pm. Flight to Zurich w/ mom at 5pm.
6/1(stupid screwy time changes...): picked up by Aunt Peg (mom's sister, who still speaks her flawless Swiss-German with a Tennessee accent) taking the scenic route to her gorgeous hometown (in what she referred to as "redneck" Switzerland). Fell asleep at weird hour. Woke up at weird hour.

6/4: Cousin Nic gets confirmed (after a very nice 90 minute ceremony, of which I understood maybe 3 or 4 words).
I didn't want to leave. My aunt and cousins (Nic - 16, and her brother, Tom - 19, both awesome and rather hilarious kids) are the closest thing I have to a normal immediate family. My ex-uncle, a Swiss guy and real craphead, divorced my aunt about 10 years ago, moved to Atlanta, and has paid almost none of his very very necessary child support. He didn't come to see Nic's confirmation because of my mother's presence (she's threatened several legal actions against him, all of which he really deserves). All of this while mom and Peg's brother STILL remains in a coma.
Family rocks. And it helps that they live in such a beautiful country.
