ginger 22512 desperate attention whore postings DAW Level: "Playboy Centerfold" 05-22-06, 06:04 PM (EST) "Attention, Stephen King Fans" He's peeved. I don't really care. But I also don't care about American Idol this season, and some television treatments of King's work have been good. I'll probably watch this. "RE: Attention, Stephen King Fans" I'm going to Tivo "Desperation"...I read the book and I liked it. I was pleased with the other TV adaptations of his books, specifically "The Shining". The original movie version totally screwed it up IMHO. I much preferred the miniseries edition. Meaning that the miniseries scared the piss outta me. As did "The Stand".   Top

The film was gret, without question, but the TV series was much more in touch with the book. It gave you sympathetic characters that you understood and felt bad for - who felt bad for crazy Jack Nicholson? Understanding the desparation of the family, the way the house used Jack's alcoholism against him, and having a much more sympathetic Danny (IMO) made the TV version much more compelling to me. I LOVED it and actually went out and bought it. Very good. Very scary. Maybe even a scarier book than It. As Ginger said, diff'rent strokes and all that... I do think that King has a legit bone to pick with ABC. It seems a slap in the face that they would schedule this at the same time as the AI final. Any other night this week would have had little to no competition, so it seems intentional to get the show low ratings. I taped it and am looking forward to watching it tonight.   Top
