"Longevity"
How long have you lived in your present city/town/county/province?

How long have you lived in your present abode?

January is my anniversary date for both. I've now lived in Chicago for a full 34 years (technically I lived a half mile from where I do now in the suburb of Oak Park for the first 8 years and in Chicago since then).

We've lived in our current apartment now for 24 years.

And, I've been on my job for almost 21 years.

Obviously, I don't make changes very often.

I, too, am hopelessly mired in my current surroundings. Or really stable and sensible, depending on your spin.

I have lived in the Bay Area all my life (43 years). Have lived in SF since age 17.

I have lived in my present abode for 16 years. There are still unpacked boxes from my 1990 move somewhere in the back of my closet.

And I have been at this job for 20 years.

ETA (because Brave made me feel guilty): Oh yeah, the boyfriend. Sixteen years in April.

It should be interesting to see the results of your questioning...I always assumed nobody stayed in their houses very long anymore.

We've lived in our town for just over 2 years, but grew up about 30 miles from there.

Again, we've lived in our house just over two years. We plan on staying there a very, very long time.

I've been married for five years.

I've been in my current work location (different job titles, though) for four years.

Have lived in the Golden Horseshoe all my life. I actually can't imagine living in an area that wasn't near a large body of water. *shudder*

We've been in this house since 1997.

I've been with DH since 1990.

I'm too young to be so set in my ways, but there you have it.

Happy Anniversary for living in places!

Well, let's see...I'm 47.

I have lived in Beaver County in Western PA for 47 years.

I grew up in Hopewell Township and lived there until I was 32.

I moved to New Brighton when XDBF and I got our house in 1991 (14 years).

He threw me out in September (that relationship lasted 18 years), so I have been in my current apartment since then. It is in New Brighton.

I've worked in my current job for 8 years.

I've worked in education for 23 years.

I like it here and don't plan to move until I'm too old to handle winters.

I'm such a slut for the blues.

I've lived in Little Elm for almost three years.

I bought this house when I moved to Little Elm.

I've been in Texas for 12 years now.

I've worked at this job for five years - that is twice as long as I've ever worked anywhere.

I am a restless and flightly and noncommital kind of a girl. If it wasn't for the kiddo I wouldn't be as settled as I am. I want her to kind of grow up in a community and go through her school with some sort of stability.

I am always dreaming about picking up and moving to some where new.

Oh yeah! Brand new place means no one knows you, no one has an opinion of you, no one knew you in high school when you had zits and oily hair and was painfully shy, no one knows your pathetic dating history...clean slate, new home, new job, new you.

Oh, if it were only that easy, huh?

When I was little (maybe 3rd or 4th grade), I bought a book about school. And it was supposed to be a book that you could record things in for each year of school: pics, memories, etc. I was so excited about that book, and I started to fill in ahead of time, even going as far as high school. And a friend said to me, "How do you know you will graduate from that high school?" I didn't think much about it at the time.

I ended up not graduating from that school.

Years later, I longed to do just the same thing, start over somewhere new and use my middle name, etc. I actually thought about Texas/Oklahoma.

I had two perfect times in my life to do it:

1. After graduating high school: But I was so in love with Upchuck that I didn't dare.

2. During a break (*giggles and thinks of Ross/Rachel*) with my current husband back in '97. But I didn't because I had just started a job six months prior that I adored.

Now of course that will probably never happen, but it's fun to think about. And I would so go to Texas or Oklahoma in a heartbeat and live the life of "LIz the Honkeytonker."

My Dad lives the life you two dream of and he loves it. For me, it's kinda difficult because I'm never sure that the address and phone number I have is still correct. But ya know, he's a grown man, I'm an adult and he has no ties. It's kinda neat to think of all the places he's gone. If only I had the abilities to go visit him in all of those places.

Boo, umm...stop it. You're scaring me. We cannot possibly have the same middle name.

So far we have some very stable people here - everything is averaging in double digits with locale at an astonishing 33 years. (I did fudge on geg a bit on house and relationship).

Edited because by the time my post hit three more people responded and dropped locale to 24 years and house under 10.

Current house for 6 & 1/2 years- Mesa...

Lived with my parents 2 years prior in Nearby Tempe - this after moving back here from Oregon after almost 2 years there.

Prior to that lived in Mesa or Tempe back to 1987. Utah and Wyoming were home during the formative years.

Married for 13.5 years.

At current job for 6 years, 2 days. Starting to scale that back to part time - hopefully next week - to be home when the kids get home from school- Yeay!

We are within 10 miles of both sets of parents, who transplanted themselves to AZ around the same time.

I have lived in my house here for 5 1/2 years-since I have been married. Before that I lived 30 miles away in my childhood home. Other than college that was the only place I ever lived.

We plan to move next year to a larger house though.

I have been with Dh for total 7 1/2 years. 5 1/2 of them married!

I have been at my current job for 3 months. I had 3 jobs this year. Prior to that I was at my last 3 jobs for 7, 4 and 7 years respectively.

15 years in Toronto - government owned townhouse, mice/cockroaches infested! Hated this place!

less than 1 year in Toronto with roommates, bad idea!

less than 1 year in Burlington, broke up boyfriend (former husband) and moved in with my parents in Brantford.

Married with Ex and moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota for 2 years, and moved back to Burlington, Ontario. I got my government job back. divorced in 2000.

Married with Pepe in Hamilton, lived there for four years before moved to Kitchener. Now 1.5 years.

We are married for 4 years. I am not counting days and minutes like Nolay did. 5 years on June 30. That is easy.

I bet Pepe would count our marriage.

Since you're keeping statistics on all this... *grin*

Current city - We've lived in Kuala Lumpur 19 years, 3-1/2 months. We plan to move back to U.S. (probably Indy) this spring/summer.

Current house - almost 15 years; this is the first house we've owned, which we'll keep as an investment (it has almost tripled in value since we bought it, due to location).

Current job - 1 year, 9 months, as a domestic engineer (househusband!), same as my adopted daughter's age. I'll start "real" work again when we get back to the U.S. later this year.

Current (and only!) marriage - 20 years, 4-1/2 months with my Malaysian DW. We met at I.U. and married in Bloomington, Indiana (which is also my birthplace) before moving to Malaysia after we both graduated.

ed. added years of marriage

I've been with the same company for over 20 years with a one year break when I thought I was going to retire.

We've been married for just over 27 years.

Apparently I don't like change much either.

I've lived in the same city my entire life, over 48 years -- except (technically) the nine months of active duty in the USN 1975/76 (basic training in San Diego; primary "A" school in Millington, TN) when I was honorably discharged. But my legal residence stayed the same.

My current domicile has been the same since September of 1968, with a brief interruption (besides the Navy) of about 24 months 1980-82. Before that was just two other houses, the first of which was only until age 2, but the same city.

Both of my parents went to the same junior and senior high schools that my sister and I did.

Started teaching 1/19/1993; Current job placement will be 10 years come May, easily the longest in any job I've had.

Yep -- not a lot of changes here, either.

Circumstances sometimes lead me to change things. I've been at my current abode for four years-whoa! For me that is a long time. So far the house isn't up for sale-that's the whole reason behind many a move I've made. The job is a hair over a month. One of the many hairs I've pulled after accepting employment there, lol.

Ladycub and I have been married 10 years, and have only lived in two homes during that time. We've been in this one in Frederick for nearly 3 1/2 years. We'd like to move back closer to Baltimore. (Augie, wanna swap houses? And nothing personal, Silvergirl!)

I've lived in Maryland all my life* and in the Baltimore area until we moved out to Fredneck. Lived for 16 years at the East Baltimore house where I grew up. But I moved around quite a bit when I was single.

Been at my job a year. Longest-held job was 11 years at the Dept. of Defense.

*With two exceptions: a three-year tour in the UK when I was very young, and three months in Tampa for work at this time 6 years ago. I'm 40.

What a great thread! I lvoe reading threads like this. Here's mine:

How long have you lived in your present city/county? I was born in Tulsa and went to college in OK. Married my college sweetheart and moved close by eventually. Went various places, but moved back to my hometown area about 6 years after getting married.

How long have you lived in your present abode? 8.5 years- but we have land (10 acres) close by we are paying on and plan to build a house and shop building on this year.

Job: Out of college I worked in Accounting for 4 years but when my eldest was born I became a stay-at-home mom. Who knows what the future holds- but I will by a stay-at-home mom for awhile since my youngest is only 6.

Let's see here. For a few months after I was born, I lived in Manila, Philippines. Then for a month, I lived in Waipahu, Oahu. Then for another month I believe I lived in Baywood Park, CA which brings me to Sacramento, CA for the last 36 years.

Edit: Oh, and about 25 years in my late parents' home.

2 years and counting in my present home, but lived in 6 different places in the same city for the last 10 years.

Been with the same employer for the last 13 years, but tiring of it. I'm looking for change.

I like this thread.
I too, don't like change, but sometimes life forces you into it.

I have been in Texas for 15 years ( this month)
I have been in my town for 13 years.
I have been in my house for 6 yrs
I have been married for 14 yrs ( but have been with the same man for almost 16)

Throughout my childhood , when we moved (3 times), we moved down. This last move to our current home, we moved up.
That felt really good.

Thanks Sittem! This is a great thread!

I have lived in Los Angeles for 45 years (my entire life)

I have been in my own apartment for 6 years

At times, I considered moving to San Francisco, but SF is even more expensive than L.A.

I am also risk-adverse

Put me in the slightly less stable ledger.

I have lived:
- in current city for 7 years (prior to that 7 years on left coast)
- in current house for 1 year (prior house 8 years)
- married for 2 years (previous marriage 7 years)
- current job 4 years (prior to that jobs were 5 yrs, 1 year, and 6 years)
- lived in Canada for all my 40 years! (though just had a lovely trip to US - more on that later)
- fresh undies today (it's Monday, afterall)

Sig by me. Wish the rider was me!

Wow. Okay. I'm definitely one of the riskier types apparently.

House: 2 1/2 years (this time. Yes, I lived in this same house once before for 2 1/2 years). Prior to that an apartment in a nearby town for a year and 3 months and another apartment for 6 months.

Hometown: I'm going to count the 20 square mile area I live in as my home town, since I've been in this area the second longest in my life. So, see above. Really. Then add about 8 months on to that. Even though it was really 4 different towns.

Job: 6 years and 5 months

Relationship: 3 1/2 years.

Now, between birth and age 28 (my age now), I've lived in 12 towns/cities and moved 20 times (three of those were back and forth into and out of my current home). I've held 10 jobs since age 16, when I started paying taxes, not counting the work-study program in college. I've had 1 failed marriage and my current marriage and have two kids.

Oh, I got your record beat bigtime, txmomma! I'm not going to post my stats as y'all would think I'm absolutely crazy. (I know my family does.) Let's just say that half of those changes were not by choice. But still, the other half is pretty numerous too so I don't know.... maybe I am crazy. Does being a desert nomad in a past life count for an excuse?

I will say that I have no plans to leave Portland. I'm happy to be back in the town of my birth after being absconded with at 13 months to San Diego and L.A., and growing up Southern Californian. I don't blame my parents, however. They needed jobs and they wanted out of the rainy winters. I? Love it here.
