"What is the prize money?" |
This is only the second faux Romance Reality Show that I have seen (the other being Joe Millionaire). Maybe I am missing something, but I have read most of the posts and articles on this site and can find no mention of how much money these guys are competing for. Survivor and Big Brother are very up front regarding the prise money, and on Joe Millionaire the women would get valuable jewelry at the end of each round. I understand that it spoils the illusion of romance to find out that the men are competing more for the money than for the girl, but I harbour no such illusions and want to know how much they are getting.

LAST EDITED ON 11-17-03 AT 01:01 AM (EST)There is no prize money. Really. No money, no trips, no Bling- Bling. Nada. Also, no stipand, no per diem. The guys received nothing for doing the show. (...'cept the love of the fair maiden...)

Well, they do seem to be getting rather copious amounts of free booze and food, all the better to make complete asses out of themselves. And they get to go on activities outside of the house and meet people such as Tony Gonzalez of the Chiefs and Kathy Griffin, not to mention Melana. The house they're staying in is a pretty good prize in itself, even if they're only staying a short while. Having said that... dunno if there's any prize money to be won depending on where they finished. I'm sure it works the same way as the Bachelor/Bachelorette shows where the contestants are nominally reimbursed for their lavish travel & clothing expenses and not too much else.

Thanks for the feedback. You seem very adamant about there being no, nada, zip prize money or compensation. If that is true, these guys are total losers (and/or media whores), because the odds that this woman will become romantically involved with one of them is 1000-1. At least the women in Joe Millionaire got a free trip to Europe (+?). Despite your conviction on the matter, I am still skeptical. How is it you are so convinced that there is no prize money? (please don't say because you read the disclaimer at the end of the show)

I know some of the guys...so unless THEY are lying...The reason for doing it? The reason I was given was because it looked like fun (They DID think they were going to be in a show called "Life of the Party.") Once there, a "What the H*** atmosphere" ensued.... They did say it was fun, not necessarily just because of the girl, but hanging with the other guys, going on the "dates," r rock climbing, spa, water skiing, and other things that happen on future shows, even just hanging out around the pool was cool. Summer camp for adults...

Is it possible that they signed a non disclosure agreement? And that they were coached on how to answer such questions in a negative manner without really lying? I would think that such non disclosure terms would be SOP in such TV shows. I know I sound paranoid, but I just can't concieve of anyone, other than a wantabe actor, agreeing to be on this show.

>Thanks for the feedback. You seem >very adamant about there being >no, nada, zip prize money >or compensation. Why are you so adamant about there BEING a prize? You admit Joe Millionaire is the only other reality show you've seen, so what makes you an expert? The fact is Average Joe is *NOT* a "deceptive" reality dating show like Joe Millionaire or For Love Or Money where the contestants are actively hiding a secret from the singles or vice versa. It's a straight Bachelor-like dating show with the hook being that the men aren't total studs. That makes it no different than The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, Bachelorettes In Alaska, The Dating Experiment, Mr. Personality, or dozens of other dating shows where there WAS NO PRIZE. Honestly... if there was a prize, what would be the point of having the contestants compete for it and then edit the show and not tell the viewers about it? W -SB

You asked: "... if there was a prize, what would be the point of having the contestants compete for it and then edit the show and not tell the viewers about it?"I answered: ratings. I explain: You are correct that 'not telling anyone will not make any additional people watch'. But you are looking at the matter from the opposite direction than I. If it was revealed that all of the contestants were paid (hypothecially) $10,000-$50,000, depending upon how far they got, it would burst the bubble of the romantics that make up the majority of the viewing audience, after the romantics learn that the guys are not motivated soley by romance, the romantics stop watching.

If the romantics all stopped watching, wouldn't that mean the ratings would go down?Last time I checked, that wasn't a good thing. Networks want people to watch their shows. I guess I'm not following your thinking process. ![](http://community.realitytvworld.com/boards/User_files/3f9563664b8874ff.gif)
