What *IS* 13 x 12 ?!?!? (I know, I know, 156.)My point is that most 6th grade multiplication tables stop at 12 x 12, so 13 x 12 is not common to our memories. It should not be a mark against Heidi if she's not quickly calculating the answer while on a TV show under the lights, etc, either. She won't be designing any rockets with Dave anytime soon, but let's be fair to her, at least. ![](http://community.realitytvworld.com/boards/User_files/3e315c3b0cbdcb82.gif)

10. "RE: IQ" |
I had to laugh when I saw that halfwit nodding furiously when Jiffy was pumping up her IQ score. It was a mere two months ago that my Developmental Psych prof was talking about IQ tests. I'm not sure how objective his points are, or what research they are based upon, but basically the gist was this: IQ tests are useful for predicting the future academic performance of children. It takes into account chronological age and cognitive or developmental age or some such. I'm not going to dig out my notes, but the prof said that the general idea in the field today is that IQ is not useful and not predictive of anything past the teen years. In childhood and adolescence, the test is used as a diagnostic aid for psychologists, but the results and validity of the tests are still questionable. Most pointedly, he said that when they do test children's IQ, they DO NOT RELEASE THE RESULTS TO PARENTS AND EDUCATORS because parents and the school system tend to equate the results with the child's intellectual ability, and they label the child accordingly. The test, according to my prof, is just not reliable enough to risk the pigeon-holing of children. So, when Heidi was nodding furiously about her IQ, I had a good laugh at her stupid, dimwitted expense.

12. "From someone with IQ = 154" |
My IQ is 154 (higher than over 99.5% of the population). I was told this back in grade 12 (in the late 60's, when they did release results) when I was criticized for doing no work and coasting through high school with marks in the 80's. They felt I should have marks in the mid-90's, which would have reflected well on the school.Being quite smug about this, I did quite a bit of research into IQ in university when I studied human psychology. Much to my chagrin and disappointment, I was forced to conclude that high IQ scores prove positively that a person is good at taking IQ tests. But little else. At very best, they may measure potential, but whether the person actually translates that into anything useful is a very different matter. Your prof is quite correct.

15. "RE: IQ" |
No all Survivors take IQ tests along with Psych evaluations, etc. The ones on the internet are not "real" IQ tests, at least not ones I've had.I remember in S1, they mentioned Gretchen tested the highest, I think it was in the 140's range. So Heidi must be on that level. While not a firm believer of IQ tests, In my high school experience, the people who also got good grades tended to score higher on their IQ tests than the people who didn't. There will always be exceptions, but but as a general indicator, I think it does well. People that "test well" will tend to also "test well" in school. I believe Heidi is book smart. She found the most words in the word scramble challenge for her team, and did well in the quiz challenge for immunity. I don't find it that hard to believe that her IQ is that high, but like others have said it often means nothing in the game of life or Survivor.

Have to throw my 2 cents in here.....people who score well on IQ tests do well in school because a standard IQ test focuses solely on the audiovisual learner. Schools STILL teach to the audiovisual learner, so ergo, the correlation. Even though we know now that there are seven different learning styles, and that we need to teach to ALL of them, teachers are still mostly using the latest technology: the blackboard and the overhead, to teach. We're missing quite a few REALLY bright kids in doing so. What this has to do with Heidi, I'm not sure, but I've been fighting this battle for YEARS as a teacher, so I wanted to comment. I will say this about Ms. Strobel/Strumpet: Anyone who watched the show and who scored higher than 60 on their own IQ test knows she's an IDIOT!!!!!

there's a post to this effect somewhere else and i can't remember where so forget i said itanyway the basic idea is that the title "rocket scientist" doesn't really exist in nature this told me from day 1 that dave is a pompous loser who doesn't know his role or has a very serious inferiority complex generally a person might be an engineer of some type but i have never heard of an actual person who can proclaim his official title doctrined by his company is, verbatim, "rocket scientist"

laaaaaay-deeesThaiBeach, were you channeling Jerry Lewis just then? I agree "rocket scientist" is too generic to describe what most people who might call themselves that do. I think Dave probably works in a specialized area of "rocket science" -- he may design or experiment with components that are used on rockets, or whatever. I highly doubt he "designs rockets", like an architect designs buildings.
