Maybe I'm just thinking too much, but do you get the feeling that Claire isn't carrying around a normal kind of kid? Something tells me that thing about to pop out is the spawn of satan...or at least something that isn't expected. I'm just saying that I think there's more to that kid than anybody knows.

bacon, honey, I thought you were the spawn of Satan. But as to your post, I agree. There is something funny going on with the kid-to-be. I'm not sure it will be readily apparent, though. I'm thinking it will be something that will become obvious after some time.

Wasn't she the fourth alien kid? The one that came with the creepy old guy. I think she got killed off. Checked online...her name was Tess. Handcrafted by RollDdice

If you subscribe to the "they are all really dead" theory then Claire's baby was alive in the premiere when she couldn't feel it kicking (because she was dead) and now that she feels it kicking has joined the rest of the passengers in their parallel world. Does that make sense?

Motherhood is one of the most sacred, spiritual, and central components of being human, and of life itself. I think this is definitely something that will come into play in the show.It seemed very obvious to me that the psychic has a clear idea of the possibilities in the child's future. It's the whole nature vs nurture thing. I believe the premise of the show is taking a stand that nurture does overcome nature, but nature is still a force to be reckoned with. Everything with a plot has a 'worldview', and I think this will prove to be a central component of "Lost". The psychic was clearly saying that this child -needed- Clarie to raise it. I think the psychic saw that only Claire, the baby's natural mother, was equipped with the love and dedication that would be needed to help the child overcome what might be a slightly off-kilter nature (and what that nature is is still anyone's guess). Oh, I am not saying adoptive parents can't love and nurture a child as much as a natural mother, by ANY means. But this is a fantasy world we're dealing with, and we are therefore dealing with some ideals. Also, though there's not been any indication that Clarie had any sort of peculiar life prior to her pregnancy, there may be some special experiences in her past that make her specially equipped to raise this particular child. More likely, in my opinion, it has more to do with an idealized concept of a mother's pure love. I don't buy into the whole "rosemary's Baby" concept. Nothing is born or created evil. that's my opinion-- the question is, what is the -show's- opinion.
