KObrien_fan 8360 desperate attention whore postings DAW Level: "Playboy Centerfold" 12-05-03, 05:42 PM (EST) "You guys are going to think I am nuts, but..." I first started posting at Sblows this season of survivor on the spoilers. It took me a little bit to get the lingo, but I often wondered what the heck OT meant (I knew it didn't mean that loser quitter guy from S7). Then I got a special invite from Buckeyegirl to come join the fun at OffTopic, wooohooo, so I got that one down and said ok, that makes sense. I have been here now for just a couple of weeks, (and now am up over 300 DAW's), but some of the abbreviations and quirks were killing me trying to figure them out. Like I saw DH all over the place and knew it referred to a womans significant other, but I thought it stood for something slightly different and not quite so pg13 as "darling husband". The way I finally figured this one out, is I saw someone post "DB" yesterday, so I put 2 and 2 together and walla, got "darling boyfriend" too. I still don't quite know why most of you put an "s" instead of an "a" in the word thread. (is it the close proximatey on the keyboard?) I also am not sure if love is a bad word to use since many spell that lvoe or use *heart* instead... I also found out that it is as good to get a *whack* as it is a *smoosh* Now this next one is also embarrasing, it took me a while to figure out what DAW meant (I know, I know, its spelled out next to my name, lol) I also know the significance of a swoop (I got my first 100 swoop AND my first thresd that I started to go up over 100 posts yesterday ) So tell me my dear OT friends, what else am I missing from my lingo? What abbreviations or other words are necessary for my continued enjoyment here on the boards? It has been a blast and is very addicting I must say! (Not to mention that you all have been very sweet, supportive, and great to be a part of!!!!!) at least I know html and made my own sig pic and figured out how to add the ps stuff at the bottom   Top

LAST EDITED ON 12-05-03 AT 06:02 PM (EST) The lingo just kinda evolves as we go along, so don't worry you'll get it, or can ask. So many people that not everyone gets all of them. Lvoe is a Pooh typo that took on a life of it's own. Aslo *hearting* someone is just a warm and friendly way of saying "I Like you". That one may hav come from Pooh also, not sure. Thresd was a typo and still is sometimes. A poster who doesn't post here anymore once typed it that way and Shakes teased her by aways using that spelling after that. Many picked it up, and for awhile it was almost always spelled that way. Some thought it was dumb, but aren't all silly jokes? Anyway, I am not sure now when I see it, if the poster is using the old spelling or if it is really a typo. DH or DW is Dear Wife or Dear Husband I think. Or Darling. I still see it as Dumb Husband LOL! DAW came after Webby added the numbers. At first we didn't have any post numbers, so no one knew. After we got them a poster who no longer posts here called them Desparate Attention Whore postings. The reality show cast members were already referred to as Attention Whores. So DAW is a Reality show member, or the number of your posts ( your DAW) or we refer to ourselves as DAWs. Anything you don't get just ask, because someone will know. The joke may have started long ago or it may have been created the day before. Things just take on a life of their own here, and that is part of the fun.   Top
