Estee 57126 desperate attention whore postings DAW Level: "Playboy Centerfold" 07-25-08, 04:39 PM (EST) "Iraq banned from Olympics." You are the IOC. You decide to hold the Summer Games in China. You don't care about the human rights record. You don't care about any atrocities. You don't care about the athlete mills that strip children from their families. You don't seem to care about anything except receiving the biggest bribe possible. And then you ban Iraq's seven-athlete contingent from the Games because in your eyes, their committee's been having some problems. You don't care about the athlete mills that strip children from their families Thie IOC has never cared about this - just look at previous Olympic dynasties like: East Germany, Romania, USSR, With the fall of the USSR - and the crumbling of most of their athletes (just look at gymnastics)the IOC wants a county that will compete with the US - sad thing is - in many sports that we are now dominating in - our coaches come from the Eastern Block from that system. Of the 6 members of the US Women's Gymnastics team - I think 5 of them are coached by previous Eastern Block Athletes now coaches   Top

Come on, a country trying to rise itself out from the shambles it's in, with a few athletes who surely have invested of themselves with pride in the new country they represent, and have a clique of old farts tell them no? Yes, there is, from reading more than one article (just google a few). And what we have here is a government ministry that stuck its inept hands into matters and completely screwed things up, probably breaking half the bylaws in the process. On the other hand, it appears that some members of the Iraq olympic committee were people who didn't live in Iraq, either, and had little or no actual involvement in the development of sports in Iraq in recent years. They couldn't even hold a meeting with a quorum, nor reelect committee officers on an annual basis. So, they, too, were inept. Having said all that, I see absolutely, positively no reason why those Iraqis who have trained (and qualified, apparently) for the Olympics should be denied the opportunity to compete. No reason at all. FWIW, so many other countries' ministries (Malaysia included, as I mentioned) do much the same thing, getting politicians and connected people into the national committee and thence getting free rides to travel and wine and dine.   Top
