cqvenus 9765 desperate attention whore postings DAW Level: "Playboy Centerfold" 03-26-05, 01:23 PM (EST) "is eminem less downloaded?" LAST EDITED ON 03-26-05 AT 01:25 PM (EST) my sister and i were talking about downloading music, specifically eminem. i noticed she had a burned copy of his new CD. i asked rather incredulously, "you downloaded eminem???" and she replied in a similar hell-no fashion with "no way! i copied it." we talked about why we don't download eminem. those of you that don't download anything without paying, kudos to you. you are truly holier than thou. i mean i. or us WE. our "we don't download eminem" convo went something like her: could you imagine? he'd come to the house himself. me: then he'd write a song about how he came to the house. her: yeah... they was downloading my songs so i went to the door me: they had six computers and nine TVs, but they're stealing from ME? her: {laughing} yeah and he'd sue like he sued his mom. me: that's not even funny. but it is. so i wonder this: do others feel this way about downloading eminem? if so, how does he get people to feel this way about stealing in particular from HIM? is eminem less downloaded? please point me in a direction to find evidence to support or refute my mere theory. ~ cq doesn't know where to find downloading piracy statistics edited as a preemptive strike to the grammar police. okay, fine. it was bothering me.   Top

"Not sure" My first instinct is to say that people aren't reporting or keeping track of the music they've illegally downloaded. I just gave a lecture in my American History classes this week about how per capita consumption of alcohol seemed to have INCREASED during the Prohibition period. But we'll never know for sure, because (almost) nobody kept records of their drinking. But then I realized that this is the internet age, and there are probably counters on those download pages. Don't know where to find them, though, as I really haven't downloaded any music, movies or computer games. I won't get into a fight with anyone over the morality of stealing intellectual property. But I completely amazed by how many of my teenage college students think that downloading music or making illegal copies of computer/video games is NOT wrong. Wrong is wrong no matter how many people say it's right.   Top

It's been a while since I downloaded anyone but I used to download Eminem's D12 stuff. I make myself feel better by the fact that even though I'll download a movie on occassion or buy a bootlegged copy, I'm such a nut for DVD's that I'll still buy the DVD when it comes out. That is if it's worth a sh!t, that's how I justify downloading in the first place. There's so much crap on records that I'm just not willing to pay $15-18 for a CD with only two decent songs on it. Although I am now one of the people who pay for their music, I wasn't always. There was a point in time where I was downloading A LOT of em's music for free. I've also ripped copies of his cds from other people. In my opinion there's nothing special about Em that would keep me from illegally downloading his songs, if I were still doing that sort of thing, which I'm not. Contradictions don't exist. When faced with a contradiction, check you're premises, one of them is wrong!   Top
