"Question about rules in season 1"
I have a question about the fast forward in season 1. The way it was phrased last night, it seems like there is a fast forward on any leg, and that anyone can go for it, even if they have already used a fast forward previously. There was no warning, as there are in more recent seasons, that teams may only use one fast forward and therefore should use it wisely. Is this the case - could the same team feasibly fast forward themselves all the way to the final leg?

Nope. Only one fast forward per team.

However, you're gonna like these mega Fast Forward races. (Most people do.)

LAST EDITED ON 07-12-05 AT 07:25 PM (EST)

I've been a TAR fan from the beginning, but was surprised by how much some things have changed:

Fast forward with no real task involved, other than getting to it.
No Phil at the the matt, unless you're being Philimitated.
No Road Block.
Mr. Handy Hands didn't tell us "A detour is a choice between two tasks..."
Some bickering, but most teams played nice.
Preview of the Pit Stop much earlier in the episode then what we're use to.
White and Yellow route markers.
I also thought I could see a person holding one of the flags in the airport (J-Berg?)
But the most startling thing was just how pronounced Phil's accent was then!

I suppose it's possible that the Road Block and Task-for-FF will appear in later eps. for season one...don't remember.

One of the things I liked, based of course on only the one episode, is that you see a little bit of the teams interacting with each other, but also with the culture that they happen to be in at the time. In later seasons it seems like there are so many ugly Americans bulldozing their way around the world, so it is nice to see a bit of interaction between the teams and the locals.

Episode 2 had the mothers do the white water rafting if I remember correctly, I was tired when I watched it last night though. Also the place was hard to find.

Phil hadn't gotten his FF spiel memorized at this point, but things have changed some. Each team can only use the fast forward once - no change there - but for TAR Classic through TAR4, there was a fast forward available on each leg through leg 11.

6. "Best ever Fast Forward?"
Wait until we're down to the Final Five. Teams four and five from the previous leg were way behind, knowing the fast forward was their only chance to get back in the race. The FF task was set up so the teams could compete simultaneously in the same place. Some of the best suspense ever in reality TV as the two teams, one that didn't expect to be near the back of the pack, and one that didn't expect to get that far in the race, battle it out to see who will complete the task first and get the FF. But that's not the end of it! Because of some stupidity and idiocy on the part of both the FF winner and loser, the result at the end of the leg is unbelievable! This was one of my favorite episodes ever...don't miss it.

This by far is the one of the best episodes ever. It was episode 9 of Classic. One should go to the following site for some good commentary and statistics from season one, not sure though who the author was but it was great.

http://members.cox.net/amazrace/index1.html

They continued it into season 2, too bad it has not been done for the later races.

Welcome to the board.

If you didn't know already, this site also does a pretty good job on summaries... Here's a link to another post where you can access the summaries for the first season.

We were a little rough at the start, but like the show, things have gotten a lot smoother. And we've done every episode of every season.

These reality show contestants need a reality check!

I know I may have been the only one that didn't know who actually won TAR 1 but I do now. There is a picture of the winners when you click the link.
