LAST EDITED ON 02-20-04 AT 01:00 PM (EST)I really didn't read through all of the messages in this thread. If you didn't see or cannot recall, I'm the one who lives about 50 minutes away from Lanny's hometown. I have lived here all of my life, and I know quite a few women like Lanny's mom. I saw her as the typical southern Baptist Northeast TX "country" mom. Not all the women in this area are like that. I was a little taken aback at how forceful she seemed, but then again we don't know everything that was said or done/what the producers edited out of that segment.
Example: My grandmother has many of the same views as Lanny's mom. She feels that a woman should be there for her husband no matter the situation...that the man is the "boss" and provider of the household. She stills takes my grandfather his coffee to him each morning after he wakes up. She makes his breakfast, lunch, and makes sure to have dinner on the table when he gets in from farm work. She ALWAYS washes the clothes, clean the house, clean the vegetables that he brings in from the garden. go to church every Wednesday and Sunday. Before she retired, she was a "working" woman which was sometimes frowned upon back then, but she still had to make sure the house was taken care of. For the most part, I think she has been sheltered. To me, it seemed that Lanny's mom was, in her own way, looking out for her son. I don't think Meredith would be happy with "settling" for this type of life. Didn't Lanny's sister-in-law even say that she didn't think Meredith would be cut out for what Lanny would need in a wife (or something like that)?
Though I really, really liked Lanny on the show, I just don't think it would have possibly worked out for the two of them unless they went through some major changes.
There is just something about Ian that I do not like. I don't know what it is but... maybe he is just too impersonal.
Matthew...*happy sigh* I don't have anything to say about him other than I like the way he is portrayed on the show. If he is truly that way IRL, and Meredith chooses him, she will be one really lucky woman.
