1. "RE: Season 3 Top 10 -- Discuss"
I missed watching it last night so thanks for posting the top 10. My stoopid newpaper's tv listings said it would be on at 8:30. I tuned in at 8:25 to find the Hoff debating between Elvis and the baton twirler.

I'm a little disappointed that it's mostly singers. Isn't that what American Idol is supposed to be there for?

Donald & Neil are both opratic singers. Pretty good singers but for audience members who like that type of singers, the vote will be split.

Eli, Jessica, Queen Emily, and the Wright Kids - Eli is probably the most talented of this group and stands a good chance. If the top 10 is cut to top 5, I think Queen Emily might make the cut.

Elvis & Frank Sinatra- Cute impersonations. Best talent in America? Nah. I think the Sinatra impersonator has a pretty good voice, better than the Elvis impersonator.

Kaitlyn - Read my comments in the other thresd. Does America really think she's the most talented? Are they just voting because she's so darn cute? Or is this like American Idol with the "vote for the worst" campaign?

Nuttin but Stringz - As I said in an earlier thresd, as a violinist I don't think they're as good as others do. They need more practice. But their style and appeal can't be denied. With all the other variables in the competition, I think they stand a good chance of winning.

I got sliced!

Very disappointed that so many singers made it through as well. Can't believe the cloggers and the Drummers didn't make it and Jessica did..Sometimes have to wonder what people are thinking..

Top 5 will be:
Donald, Eli, Queen, Neal, and Nuttin but stringz

My fav list:

1. Eli---I feel is he the best singer still in.
2. Neal--I think he is great, but I HATE the sob story
3. The Wright Kids--Should they win, NO, but I love watching them
4. Queen Emily--would be higher if she didn't cry so much
5. Nuttin but stringz--I just don't get em at all
6. Joseph Hall--does Vegas really need another Elvis
7. Paul--Hate him less the the other three
8. Jessica--shouldn't be this far
9. Kaitlyn--Really a four year old in Vegas, does anyone care about this little girl
10. Donald--I really don't like this guy and don't see why everyone loves him...

Based on the list, I'm pulling for Nuttin' But Stringz.

I am disappointed that none of the dance groups are in the top 10 or other "non-singing" talent. This show is good exposure for the singers that actually have talent (Eli and Neal) and are too old for American Idol - but should they win? Not sure. They're going to have to wow me next week.

ETA: And why is the 4-year old still in the competition?

I'm also pulling for Nuttin' But Stringz. They are an ORIGINAL act. Queen Emily is also great, and so is Eli, but they're singers...and there are lots of singers. I'd like to see an original act win.

I think it's a shame that the baton twirler went out. He was fantastic, and he never messed up. Not once, unlike the Elvis impersonator who got his spot. Does Vegas really need another Elvis?

Well, LOL, Vegas can use every Elvis it can get, there's always room for more.

That shouldn't detract from Joseph's obvious talent, but I did think it a shame Jonathan was eliminated in favor of an Elvis impersonator. Face it, that is a known quantity, we all know what an Elvis act is, but the Baton Wizard was a lot of potential for a new original act.

7. "RE: Season 3 Top 10 -- Discuss"
Technically, which acts should move up to the top five, and which act should ultimately win, should be based strictly on the upcoming performances and pure talent. Forget considerations like which acts could headline in Vegas, whether Vegas needs another Elvis, in the end a talent competition should be based on one thing only, talent alone.

This show has never entirely been about being a talent competition, though, because the sponsors, producers, directors, and probably even the on-screen talent judges, ultimately have more invested in it being a ratings-producing television program. And that is the only way to not only explain but understand everything that has happened over the last three seasons, and in the end when America votes there is a lot of popularity contest that intrudes on this talent competition.

So, which five acts of these ten should become the top five, which act should ultimately win, I don't know what is going to happen I can only at this point base my assessment on what has already happened. So for me it becomes a process of elimination.

First elimination: Kaitlyn Maher. She's a sweet kid with a lot of emotional tug, but ultimately her talent doesn't hold up against the other acts. She should keep singing, though. She's amazing for a four-year-old, if she keeps at it she should just get better and better.

Second elimination: Donald Braswell. (Doing my best The Hoff impersonation.) Man, I just love the backstory, the way he fought back from adversity, climbed back into the saddle, made his way back, he's what this show is all about! (Of course, that's utter BS for the TV audience.) This guy does have admirable talent but, from what I've seen of him throughout this season, no artistry. I have loved some of his performances, he is really good at it, but in the end he is a performer not a star.

Third elimination: Jessica Price. I mean, yeah, it is a shame to eliminate the eyecandy before the final round, but a lot of her talent is looking all cute and perky like she does and being likeable and all; in the long run, that doesn't hold up. In her favor I will say she does have potential, but from what I've seen thus far in this competition I think she's running on steam, she really isn't there yet.

Fourth elimination: Paul Salos. I love this guy and think he does a great Frank Sinatra tribute. And maybe Vegas could use one of those. In my end analysis, however, he strikes me as a gifted amateur who only got this far in the competition because of the, in my opinion, bogus headlining Vegas act angle which has nothing really to to do with pure talent. Look at it this way, if being Vegas was what talent really meant, Elizabeth Berkley in Showgirls would have won an Oscar for nude dancing.

Fifth elimination: The Wright Kids. Even though they hit a homerun in their last performance, these kids don't really have it yet. They are great at what they do most of the time but they really don't hold up against the other remaining acts.

That leaves me with a top five of:

Eli Mattson
Joseph Hall
Neal E. Boyd
Nuttin But Stingz
Queen Emily

My top 2 of those remaining acts, Eli Mattson and Nuttin But Stingz. These are the two most impressive remaining act in my opinion. Eli needs to break out of his box, but he is clearly more than just a lounge lizard, he's got it he just needs to find it. Nuttin But Stringz are amazing even though they aren't the best technical violinists ever, they own the stage every time they perform.

After giving it a little more thought, I can't help but think that the SMARTEST Vegas promoter could put together an amazing Variety Show with some of these acts!

Wouldn't you pay $50 per ticket to see this line-up???:

Joseph "ELVIS" Hall serves as the opening act and MC.
Followed by Queen Emily in full "ARETHA" mode.
Then, the lights dim and "Twirling Jonathan" sets the stage on fire with his baton routine!
ELVIS then performs again and introduces one his oldest and best friends, Paul "Sinatra" Salos.
Sinatra does it "His Way", then they duet together.
Elvis introduces our headliner: NUTTIN BUT STRINGZ!
NBS does 3 full production numbers and is joined on stage by all the other acts for a Giant Finale!

This show runs for 5 years at the Flamingo, they invite a contestant from every following season of AGT to join them as a "special guest" and they all get rich and famous!

See?.....IT'S THAT EASY! HAHA!

Now THAT would be a VEGAS show to see!

Here is my lvoe/hate list:

1. Neal Boyd--He is an awesome singer and I hope he wins.

2. Donald Braswell--I love him almost as much as Neal. "Music of the Night" was fantastic.

3. Eli Mattson--definitely has talent.

4. Queen Emily--I like her best when she doesn't scream.

5. Nuttin But Stringz--talented but not my style.

6. The Wright Kids--not a phenomenal talent, but ok.

7. Kaitlyn Maher--I have to put her here because I dislike the remaining contestants so intensely. She is very adorable, and sings better than many 4 year olds, but I have had students better than her. And why anyone would consider a child that age for a Vegas act is beyond me. Ummm, parents? I don't believe "responsible adults" applies to you....

8. Jessica Price--Sorry, honey, but you bore me to death.

9. Paul Salos--You do not sound like Frank Sinatra to me. When I heard Frank, he always sang in tune. And you...do NOT.

10. Joseph Hall--Oh my. I can't believe he made it to the finals. Elvis impersonators are a dime a dozen, and he is not even a good one. Terry Fator's puppet's Elvis impression was a thousand times better.

I would have to agree that, on technical merit, Neal E. Boyd is the best of the remaining performers, and he knocks me out every time I watch him. Whether he could headline a 90 minute show, I don't know, I want to see more. I have the exact same question about Queen Emily. They are both incredible performers but who wants to sit through 90 minutes of the same stuff again and again and again.

To be fair, I have that same question still about most of the remaining acts. To put it in context, I saw Burl Ives in concert once long ago; amusing as antique ballads and corny jokes can be, sitting through an entire program of it can get tedious.

In defense of Paul Salos, he does have some reasonable degree of amateur singing talent even though he doesn't actually sing (or really even look like) Frank Sinatra. What he does have is attitude and presentation, in other words the ability to act like Sinatra as he performs. It's a nice tribute. And he dresses up nice.

Most of all what I like about the guy, he's clearly in it just for the fun. I was still amazed he made the top 10.

IMHO, I mostly agree. Especially with Kaitlyn. Cute, but not enough talent to last for an hour to 90 minute Vegas show.

Let's face it, winning the million is one thing. The winner will need to deal with the reality that he or she will need to be able to sustain a show.

Who can do this? Who would you pay $90 - $175 a ticket to see?

Eli Mattson - has the talent and the ability to connect with the audience. With the right mentor, producer and manager can go really far and put on a great Vegas show

Donald Braswell - same as with Eli.. has the versatility - like a Robert Goulet; needs to develop more personality and look at the audience when singing, not at the ceiling!

Jessica Price - with the right coaching could turn out to be less "boring"; she already has the eye-candy factor. With a broader range of songs, she has potential.

Neal Boyd - talented, but how many people want to listen to 90 minutes of opera?

Nuttin But Stringz - while talented - it stretches the imagination as to how this could act could last through an entire show
