"So, what say ye, after last night's quarter-finals??"
I feel very strongly that the Virginia Tech Dudes with their Fighting Gravity act will go through. Also pretty sure about the little guys-Future Funk. At least for now. The other two for me are iffy: Nathaniel Kenyon seems to be a favorite of the judges and the women in the audience, while Maricon seems to be in the forefront with the men-geez, wonder why?

Whistler's Mother-Cohn, will she continue on? Sure, she's a novelty, but who would really pay to listen to that for any length of time? And Paul Safy, Jr? I thought he was smooth, but the judges seemed on the fence with him. Sadly, he reminds me of the cave men in the Geico Commercials. I think it's the excess facial hair....

Airpocolypse-now THEY may actually be the black horse in this competition. People seem to love what they are doing. Brings back a real '80's' vibe, and they are pretty comical and original.

I do think it will be a definite NO for Nick Pike, Kung Fu Heros and RNG.

Anyway, that's my two cent's worth. Shall we get this conversation going??

I didn't get to see every act....
but...

there are a few that I have no desire to ever see again - that I would never pay to see - that I don't think could ever sustain a real show. Those are: the hand whistler - really dumb IMO
the airpocolypse guys - even I can play air guitar! - again dumb.

How many of the 48 acts did they show last night?
Do all 48 get shown and then the votes are counted?
or do they eliminate from each group shown? (if so, that doesn't seem fair)

12 were shown and 4 will move on, so 8 eliminated. The results will be announced tonight. As far as who will go through, I think Fighting Gravity and Future Funk have absolutely no chance of not making it, while the other 2 spots will probably be filled by 2 of the following: Nathaniel Kenyon, Christina and Ali, Hot Shot Tap Dancers, or Nick Pike. If I had to pick 2 I'd probably go with Nathaniel Kenyon because of his looks/sympathy votes for him being sick, and Christina and Ali for their story and somewhat their voices, though I think they picked a song which didnt really show off their voices very well.

4 out of 12? wow!

Seems very unfair way to do this to me.
The groupings will have a lot to do with the way the votes go.

Thats true, however if an act cant make it into the top 4 out of 12 in their group, what chance would they have to win the show anyways? Even if the top 12 were in the same group, it would still separate the best from the rest and thus would work.

*checks wikipedia*

Looks like most seasons they have some sort of wild card so if you have a couple of acts that were better than some of the acts from a weaker grouping you can get them into the next round.

I'm still watching, but probably won't after these rounds are over.

Once it gets down to the point where the only question is which of the singers will win this year I lose interest. Even if the singers are good I get enough karaoke singing from AI and really want to see something else to entertain me and watching all the acts I like go home as the singers stay on and on and on just bores the carp out of me.

Paul Safy Jr: way too old-fashioned. Felt like a flashback to 1962.

Airpocalypse: they were a surprise. I liked their costumes. They were better this time than in the Vegas round.

Best performance: Fighting Gravity.

Seriously? Check out the Real Deal Fighting Gravity from Richmond VA - pretty sure the trademark police will be on that. Time for the dance troupe to take a fall.

Fighting Gravity
Future Funk
singing Sisters (don't know their names)
Nathaniel (he is the singer who had the cold, right?)

Okay, so I can go with these.
I'm more into which ones I don't want to see again - and thankfully the voting got it so I don't have to.

My favorite is Fighting Gravity.

Future Funk is cute, but they really aren't technically good, just cute. The little one watches the older one all the time & copies him; during their performance and during announcements, etc. If the older one covers his face, the younger one does the same, if he falls to his knees, the little one does too - and then looks to the other to see if it's time to get up yet.....I realize he's only 5, but....

The sisters advanced because of the background story.

Nathaniel? eye candy for the teenage girls.

You are right on the mark about Future Funk. I suppose it's normal for a 5 year old to mimick his older mentor, but I found myself getting really weary of that last night and again when I watched the cuts.

At first I thought they were really cute and deserved to go on, but now I'm see way too much over-kill in the cheese department, especially coming from the 10 year old. Of course it doesn't help that Howie is agging it on, either!

In any case, I don't see them going a lot further when they have decent rivalry, and let's hope America can see that for what it's worth, too. Here today, gone tomorrow, like so many other little kid acts. I can't even remember the name of that darling little girl who was on last year.......

Yes, Future Funk & RNG came in 4th & 5th.

Wonder what the order was for #1 #2 #3?

I'd say Gravity was #1
Nathaniel (guy singer) #2
and singing sisters #3

Well, shucks, only one of the acts I voted for went through, Fighting Gravity. They were absolutely the top act of the night.

I only voted for three acts, actually. Would have liked to have seen the tappers advance. And Maricar. She was never going to win but, you know, I was interested in seeing what else she would come up with, really really interested. And seeing, of course, what costume she would don next.

Is it just me or did anyone else get a chuckle that the sick singers were the ones who advanced? Christina and Ali are pretty good singers, the guy with the Justin looks gave a subpar performance; but I'm not going to vote for any singers at this point unless they really really impress me.

The only sure things in life are death and taxes... and a singer winning AGT. I agree 100% with your comment.

And Fighting Gravity is the best of the four advancing acts by far.

Two of the most excrutiating hours of AGT ever. Some of the singing was good, just didn't knock me out. The Ballywood dancers seemed alright but the horrible stage lighting blended with their costumes to make it impossible for me to really tell, but gosh I hope they win coz then each of them will net something like $10 per year. The street dancers and the wall climbers were really the only ones I could vote for. I can't believe I voted for wall climbers. Maybe coz that's what I felt like doing most of this episode.

They are totally misrepresenting Alice Tan Ridley. The woman is a PROFESSIONAL! Yes, she sang in subways, but as part of an NYU program..." She participates in NYC cultural programs, including the Music Under New York series where her illuminating presence stops millions of madly rushing subway users – a testament to her ability to mesmerize any audience." http://www.aliceridley.com/bio.html She won an award in 2008 from The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, she sang for the United Nations for the UN Women’s Group, and she's performed off-Broadway. Basically, they want us to believe she's some random woman who just hangs out on the subway. Total misrepresentation.

19. "RE: WOW"
You know, something in the back of my head kept saying, 'how can this woman, who has this VOICE, and a daughter who is famous, come from no where?' Plus, you don't just sing in subways for 40+ years, then show up on a stage and blow people away. She is NOT another runner-up for AI, at the age of 20-something...

This is something that needs to be considered in the voting realm. If Piers had done his homework, he would have realized he was making a fool out of himself with his 'statement' that this is what 'AGT is all about'.

Whatever, huh???
